Jason stood, pacing around in his dormitories. His was thinking about earlier, when he had 'accidetly' dissolved a Ravenclaws' poster of Viktor Krum. Of course, he was'nt very happy then, but doing that had cheered him up and know he felt energized. It was still early, but it had turned dark outside. He grabbed his jacket and threw on his school robes. then he grinned and ventured out of the dorms.
He entered the common room, where most of the older Slytherins were hanging out and chatting. He did'nt want to be caught up in any of their business so he headed outside. Upon exiting the common room, he felt a bitter, icy, coolness in the air around him. Zipping up his jacket, he headed up out of the dungeons and looked around for a place to go and relax.
His first thought was the library, but no, there would be many students there doing homework and what-not. Then it struck him, the courtyard. Sure it was cold out there, but that would mean that there would be hardly anyone out there. He saw a jar over in the corner that was unattended, so he grabbed it and put a fire in it so he could keep warm at least a little bit. Then he headed outside to the courtyard.
As he waled outside, he suddenly felt the air around him change to a completely freezing condition. Shrugging it off he headed over to the Courtyard and found a bench that was'nt frozen or covered in snow. He laid down on it and looked up at the stars, relaxing and relectingon his thoughts, unaware at all that someone was approaching.

Mary sat on her bed flipping through her History of Magic textbook wondering how Professor Binns managed to make it all so boring. It like he purposely picked the least interesting chapters and read them out in that monotone voice. ‘This is so pathetic’ she thought to herself standing up and looking at the nightgown she had already changed into. Walking over to the wardrobe Mary put on a black sweater and a pair of blue jeans. She matched them with black heeled boots and a warm winter cloak in forest green. Walking down into the common room she saw nothing but older students around. Its not like Mary had a problem with the older Slytherins, but they did seem into their own thing and she knew better than to interrupt.
Walking up the stairs into the entrance hall Mary figured she had her cloak on anyways so she might as well go outside. Feeling sluggish she leaned on the door and pushed until it slid open. Being hit with a sudden gust of cold she shivered and pulled her cloak on tighter. Mary walked down into the courtyard staring at the sky the whole way. Once there she noticed a bit of light on the ground. Only then did she see the boy beside it.
“Hello Jason” she said to the boy who she recognized from class but had never spoken to before. She then tapped her wand on a bench across from him to warm it up and melt all the ice that was dripping off it. She then sat down properly with her back straight and crossed her legs. Hugging her cloak around her stomach she watched her breath come out in little puffs and waited to see what kind of greeting she would receive.

Jason was startled when he heard someone call out his name and he slipped and fell off of the bench. He got back up shakily and stared across at the girl who had said hi to him. It was Mary Evans, a Slytherin third year just like him, but he did'nt know her all that good, Although he thought she was pretty he was'nt going to say it aloud unless he wanted to. So grinning he walked over to her, kneeled and said " Hi Mary, seeing as how we've never been formally introduced, I am Jason Strife Jr." he then took her hand and kissed it in a very gentlemen like way, he had always been taught to act this way, but this was one of the first time he had ever done so.
Then standing up he said " So what brings one pretty girl such as yourself out here on a cold, dark night such as this?" He grinned he usually never did talk like this, but tonight he was in a realxed mood so he was'nt as tense as he usualy was. He pulled out his wand and pointed it at the flame jar and said "Accio jar." The jar flew torwards him, but it was going to fast and it whacked him in the stomach and fell to the ground on the soft snow. Jason keeled over and said "Ouch." then stood up entirely and rubbed his stomach, then he sat down beside Mary.

Mary giggled as Jason slipped off the bench obviously startled. “Well I am used to guys falling over me Jason; but nobody has ever done it so literally before.” Mary joked with a smirk. She then watched as he kneeled in front of her and ‘formally’ introduced himself, kiss on the hand and everything. She simply ginned at him, “Mary Evans, pleasure.”
She rolled her eyes but still giggled as he asked ‘what brings one pretty girl such as herself out here on a cold, dark night such as this?’ “Well fine gentleman, I happened to be sitting in my room bored out of my skull as a matter of fact. So I decided to leave and found myself here with you at my feet. Now not that I mind guys sitting at my feet but you really shouldn’t be on the ground in weather like this you will get wet and cold and sick.”
Just then he called the jar of fire to him and got hit in the stomach with it. At that she couldn’t help but laugh. As he fell to the ground once more she calmed herself to make sure he was alright. Seeing him stand up she moved over on the bench to allow him to sit next to her. “Now look at you; all wet from spending so much time in the snow.” She said while placing a drying charm on him. “So Jason; what may I ask are you doing out on such a frigid night as this?” she asked him with a grin.

Jason grinned as he heard Mary giggle. Then he felt his clothes dry and saw that Mary had used a charm on him. He then said " Well I'm out here, because I want to relax and felect on my thoughts. I could'nt do it when the common room was so full. Now though, I'm glad I came out here, I got see something that was about as beautiful as the stars." He smiled and then stood up. He walked over to a frozen bench and pointed his wand at it. He used a charm that he had learned a couple of nights ago and conjured up a ice rose, using the ice from the bench. Picking it up he walked back over to Mary and sat down.
He held up the rose and said " Do you want this? I just wanted to test out a new charm that I learned." He laid it down beside her and then went over to the bench beside her, where he had been laying before. He laid down on it and suddenly, unexpectedly, the tree above him dropped all of it's snow on him. Sticking his head up out of the snow, he spat out a bit of the snow and said " Woah, guess I just ca'nt keep the snow off of me. Oh well." He then stood up again and walked over beside Mary and said " So, tell me more about yourself, if you want to, I just like getting know my friends and then some."

Mary sat and listened as Jason talked about coming out to get some peace. She smiled as he implied not minding her interrupting, not that she would have felt guilty anyways, but its always nice to be welcome. She watched as he made a rose out of ice brought it over and asked her if she wanted it. “Thank you” she said to him with a flirtatious grin. She then encased it in a bubble, which would keep it forever cold and stop it melting that her mother always used for drying flowers. The bubble shone white for moments before becoming invisible.
He walked back over to the bench he had originally been on and lay back down. Mary was thrown into hysterical laughter as a large amount of snow was dropped on him from a tree. He got up and sat down beside her once again, she quelled her laughter then to listen to him. He asked her about herself and she rolled her eyes. It was general questions like that which drive her up the wall; Mary never knew how to answer. “Well… gosh you just have to be difficult don’t you?” Mary said with a slight giggle. “Well I am a third year Slytherin as you know; I suppose that tells you something of my family and personality. I play Quidditch; my favourite position is beater although as you may or may not have heard I will be playing chaser in the upcoming game against Ravenclaw. I study anthropology regardless of what my mother thinks. I like any type of rock music be it magical or muggle. The rest of my free time is spent reading; historical fiction, fantasy, reference, just about anything really.”
She then picked up the rose once again and began looking it over, felling the cold in her hands. “I’m really not all that intriguing. How about yourself?” she then asked looking him in the eyes again.

Jason smiled and laid back against the tree behind the bench. He thought about himself and said " Well let me see, I'm a pretty good student, you already know that I'm a third year Slytherin." He thought for a second, about what to say next and said " Well I like COMC and DADA. Oh yeah I like, actually I love quidditch, I'm thinking of trying out for the team." Getting a hold in his inner thoughts, he searched for more info on himself. He remembered something and said " Oh yeah I love music, I play the guitar. I like country and rock, but I know way more country song that rock. Though I will admit Green Day and Disturbed are very good." He then look at the sky and into the starry night sky and said " Also, I'm a fool, but keep it under wraps, I do'nt want everyone knowing." He then reclaimed his thoghts and began to think about what to do next.
He looked at Mary and asked " I did mean what I said earlier, but anyways, do you, uhhh, have a boyfriend?" blushin, but he could'nt think of anything at the moment. It was as though his brain had suddenly shut off.

Mary listened as Jason told her a bit about himself. He mentioned his favourite classes then said that he played Quidditch as well. “Really? What position do you play?” Mary asked when he mentioned Quidditch; she really did adore that game. “You should try out for the team. The main team is full but there is always room for reserves and I’m a reserve but I’m playing in the upcoming game. My mother absolutely hates that I play though. That’s why I started playing actually; she spent the summer lecturing me on how I need to make more ‘good’ Slytherin friends. So I tried out for beater when I returned to school.” Mary said with a giggle remembering the howler her mother had sent her. Mary had sent a letter back saying it was a great way to meet more Slytherins and spend time with good pure-blooded children.
She smiled as he mentioned playing guitar and liking rock music; she did not know what country was though. She only knew rock muggle music because she had taken a summer course on psychology, anthropology, and sociology and that’s what all the cute guys listened to. “I love Green Day and Disturbed as well; I love a lot of muggle rock music. My dad got a wizard radio enchanted for me to get muggle radio stations and play any muggle song I want on request just like the normal ones.”
He told her he was a fool but he tried to hide it. She looked him in the eyes and gave him a flirtatious grin. “Hey nothing wrong with being a fool. I think its cute.” She said plainly as he appeared to get really uncomfortable. " I did mean what I said earlier, but anyways, do you, uhhh, have a boyfriend?" he said to her looking awkward. Mary looked back down at the rose in her hand blushing as well. She didn’t know why she would react in such a silly way, it was but a complement and a simple question but… “Well… no in fact I don’t.” She said studying the rose as if it were the most interesting thing in the world silently chastising herself for such childish behaviour. “And ummm… yourself? Do you have a girlfriend?” she asked still intently running her fingers around the rose learning every bit of it, burning it into her memory.

Jason grinned and said " I guess i could try out, maybe. Then again I should focus on my studies, but what good is that if I ca'nt have any fun. Oh well, guess I'll have to figure that out later." He looked at Mary and stared for a second, then noticing what he was doing, he quickly turned his glance back to the starry sky. He saw a constellation that he was always fond of, Aries. He heard Mary talking about music again and he said " Oh cool, I have a radio just like that, but I hardly ever use it. I prefer playing the song myself."
He heard her say that she thought being a fool was cute, which made him blush a bit more. Still though, it made him feel better that she did'nt mind if a he was a fool. He heard her answer his question that he had asked just moments before and he looked at her. She to was blushing, but surely not because it was of the same reason that he was, was it? He heard her question and said " Uhhhh, n-no, why?" He could'nt think of why he had said why, but then again his body always decided what to ask. Grinning slightly he gave Mary a flirtatious grin, well as good as a flirtatious grin as he could make.
Looking around he waited for her answer, but suddenly his owl landed in front of him. Jason looked down at his faitful pet. Petting her, he said " Why are you out here?" The owls response was hoot and an affectionate nip on his finger. Jason grinned and said " Hey Mary this is my owl, Snowy."

Jason answered her question with a negative. Blushing more she wondered why he had thought to ask her that then, surely it was not for the only reason she could think of. But why would he be blushing so if it were anything else? Maybe because it wasn’t for that reason and now he’s blushing because she’s blushing and he’s upset that she interpreted it like that. And now she has gone and made a total fool of herself. Mary bickered with herself until she realised he had asked her why she asked and she had just sat there silently too caught up in her own thought. Just perfect, now he’s going to pity me because I’m just sitting here making a fool of myself. Next will come the friends speech I just know it; Mary mind ran away with her again. “Umm no reason… it just seemed the thing to ask is all.” Mary answered praying he hadn’t thought anything of the pause and didn’t notice that she was red with blushing by then.
“Well it’s a… nice night don’t you think?” Mary asked staring up at the sky. She really couldn’t see any of it she was so wrapped up in her own thoughts and embarrassment; she just needed to change the subject to something more neutral. Just then she felt something brush past her toward Jason. She was baffled as he asked why she was out there again until she looked around and saw he was talking to an owl. “Well hello there Snowy” she said to the owl reaching out to see if it would let her pet it.

Jason looked at Mary. He was mentally slapping himself in the head for asking why. Maybe she was thinking of how to tell him that she wantedto be just friends. Slightly nervous, he found himself lost in his thoughts for a few brief moments. She might be mad that he had asked why, or maybe she thought that he was being rude. He looked up as she started to talk, but he quickly turned away, as he was blushing and didnt want her to know. Well it was a question for the right time, as he had just asked her the same question.
Grinning, butr still blushing, he turned torwards her as she spoke again. Without even looking at night sky he said " Yeah I like the view I have right now." Blushing an ever deeper crimson than before. He then heard her say hello to Snowy and watchd as Snowly flew over to Mary and landed on her hand. Grinning, he said " Guess Snowy likes you to.". He then thought "Though as not as much as I do."

"Yeah I like the view I have right now." She heard him say as she was looking at Snowy. She glanced up at his face and caught his eye, which was obviously not directed at the sky. A silly little grin accompanied a fresh tide of rose in sweeping across her face. She broke the gaze to try and hide it when she felt her hand yanked down. “Well hello there” she said to Snowy moving him up onto her arm to hold him more comfortably. ‘So it would seem’ she was about to say to his comment that Snowy likes her but the words escaped her as he told her the bird could not like her as much as he does.
Forgetting her embarrassment she looked him in the eyes and grinned. “Well Mr. Jason I think I may be fond of you as well. Although you do have some competition in Mr. Snowy here.” She said while petting the bird. “Doesn’t he handsome?” she said in a baby voice to Snowy before looking up and smiling at Jason once again. Mary was usually a very straightforward person because she seldom cared what people thought of her; but in this case she couldn’t seem to just come out say anything.
Considering he was leaning against a tree somewhat behind her she decided to get up. He did not seem like he was going to come join her, so she may as well join him in standing. Careful to keep Snowy’s perch steady she stood up and walked over across from him. She then relaxed against the bench. “So…” she said uncertain as to how to continue.

Jason winked as Mary caught his eye, grinned and blushed. Grinning, he watched as she turned away quickly. He too was bluxhing, but he was beginning to overcome his shyness, but then again it was hard to, especially with a pretty girl. He then heard her start to say something, but then she stopped. " Maybe she thinks I'm being over zealous, nah that ca'nt be it." he thought to himself.
Looking at her again, he blushed and grinned foolishly. He then started to say somethig, but it got caught in his throat and instead he said " Uhhhh." Jason was always one to be quick and ascertive, but that was most of the time. Now it seemed that all that was needed to throw him off was Mary, but he did'nt care, it was great being in her company, and as a plus, she was awfully pretty.
Watching Mary walking torwards him with Snowy perched on her shoulder, he grinned again and wondered what he should say next. Staring into her eyes, he decided to try and figure out what to say. As Mary said so he said " Are you cold? If you are, you can wear my jacket." Because just then a freezing wind started to blow.

As Mary settled herself across from Jason she noticed he was even more nervous than he had seemed before. At this thought she grinned, not out of cruelty or anything, just glad she wasn’t the only one. She didn’t know what to say but apparently it didn’t matter because the temperature suddenly dropped and Mary shivered pulling her cloak as tight around herself as she could. She must have been really shaking because Snowy took off and landed on a nearby tree watching the pair. Jason must have noticed too because he offered her his coat. “I’ll be ok thanks. It would be much warmer sitting down though. Care to join me?” she asked him.
She did not wait for a response though; just grabbed his arm and brought him over to the bench with her. Once there she dropped his arm and picked up the rose. She beamed at it as she sat down leaving ample space for him to sit beside her. It was still cold on the bench though and Mary watched her breath escape in little puffs of mist again. Mary was not really one for the cold normally; but being there that evening with Jason seemed perfect. “So tell me about your family. If you want to that is. I’m just curios; but tell me if its none of my business.” Mary said. It had seemed a good topic when she first thought of it; but as the words escaped her mouth she worried it may not be something he wants to talk about. She looked at him with nervous eyes hoping she had not been too forceful.

Jason grinned as Mary led him over to the bench and sat down. He to sat down and listened to her. He watched as her breath came out in puffs. Jason was usually one to be all for the cold and now it seemed as though it was very hot, maybe due to the fact that he was sitting next to Mary, but he shrugged off the thought and looked down. He saw that his jar of fire was near the bench leg and so he grabbed it and sat t next to Mary saying, " There now we shall be warmer." It was deffinately a great night and he grinned as Mary asked him about his family and said " Well I do'nt mind. Lets se I have both my parents and I have a brother and a sister. My brother was a bit of a rule breaker, as am I. He's back home on vacation from his job. My sister was always the strict one, but she does have a wild side. My parents are both in the Ministry of Magic. They are both great at dueling among other things and then there is the last member of my family, Snowy, and you've already met her."
Grinning he put his hand down and grabbed hers, then said " How about your family, what is it like?" he was blushing and he felt as though he was sending off a beacon for anyone who could see him.

As Jason sat down next to her Mary could have swore the temperature increased about ten degrees if she could not still see her breath. She was grateful though when he brought the jar of fire up to rest on his lap and increase the heat. She listened as he told her about his family. “You’re so lucky you have siblings. Gosh I hate being alone the only young person in that bloody manor every time I go home. I wouldn’t even mind it being someone I hate being there I just want someone.” Mary said with a slight laugh.
As Jason inquired about her family she rested her head on his shoulder and blushed as he took her hand. “Well… my family lets see…” She said trying to think of anything remotely interesting or special about her family. “Well my mother is a control freak and very very fussy and demanding. My father has no personality; he lost it at the wedding. All he does is sit there and placate my mother. Well that not really fair to say because lately he has been better and showing me that he accepts the fact that I reject all my mothers pureblood propaganda. Although in front of my mother he is still the same as always…” She trailed off closing her eyes and resting against him.

Jason grinned and said " Yeah, my brother and sis are awesome, but my sis can be very strict at times." He listened to her as Mary told him of her family. Her family sounded very complicated. Her father sounded easygoing, but her mother sounded like Malfoy or Dawn. " Your family sounds interesting." said Jason. He then felt her rest against him ands he said " Do you have any cousin?" it was a simple question, but he really could'nt think of anything else to say. So he put an arm around her and saw that his fire in the jar was starting to go out. Thinking quickly, he opened it and lit it anew.

Mary listened as he politely told her that her family was messed up and she completely agreed. Although Mary had a feeling that her upbringing was not all that uncommon. She smiled and snuggled closer as he put his arm around her and watched as he relit the fire jar. She didn’t feel the need for added warmth at that moment but she was glad for it knowing soon enough the cold would assail her once again.
“Nope, no cousins. Well I do have one on my father’s side I believe but I don’t know him. I think they live in Rome or something; my parents don’t talk about them. They are a good pure-blood family that make my mother proud don’t get me wrong; they are just too far away I think.” Mary responded when he asked if she had any cousins. “How about you? You have a much larger immediate family than I do; how about the extended one?” She asked with a comfortable smile on her face wishing this moment could last forever.

"That sounds cool." replied Jason, " I have two cousins that I talk to." He thought of his cousins for a second, then said, " Okay first off there is Jay Lionheart, he plays quidditch for a semi-pro quidditch team, then there is Justin Lionheart, he's like a brother to me. He's alwys defending me, and then again he tries to set me up on dates." He laughed at this thought and said " Yeah my cousins are great."
He thought for a second again and said " WHat do you want to talk about now?" He was very, very clueless as to what to say.

Mary listened as he talked about his cousins. “Jay, Justin, and Jason wow now that wouldn’t be at all confusing at family reunions.” She said with a smirk. “I have meet Justin before though, only for a minute but he seemed amicable and being related to you speaks highly in his favour.” Mary said grinning once again.
“Tries to set you up on dates eh?” Mary asked “anyone I should worry about? Is some girl genna pop out of the shadows attacking me for going near her man? Or is there something wrong with you that keeps them all from becoming more than just a date?” Mary joked although she was suddenly worried she may be stepping on some girl’s toes. Mary didn’t usually care what other girls though about her flirting and such; but she really liked Jason. She had to admit she would be upset to find out that he has someone else he feels seriously about despite his prior claims of being single.
