The last class let out and Laura fled the class happily. She rather enjoyed transfiguration usually, but she had not been able to concentrate at all today. Laura herself wasn’t sure why she wasn’t able to concentrate, but she just wasn’t. Rushing to the Hufflepuff common room Laura put her things away and quickly changed her clothes. She didn’t like the Hogwarts uniform one bit. Having pulling on regular jeans and a yellow sweater – Laura was proud of her house – Laura picked up her notebook. Even when it was rather the covers of a note-book and a lot of loose papers between them. Laura always draw on loose papers – even when she was given a notebook as a gift, the papers in it would soon be pulled out and drawn onto.
Grabbing a handful of pencils along with the notebook Laura rushed out of the common room again. She wanted to draw something today. Narrowly avoiding running into a younger house-mate Laura jogged down the hallway. Student lounge would be the perfect place – Laura could draw comfortably there and there were always people present who she could draw when she ran out of inspiration. Entering the lounge Laura looked around and smiled contently. This would be perfect. Retreating to a bit quieter corner of the lounge, Laura placed her papers and pencils on the table and started drawing, humming quietly to herself.
It was some time later when someone opened the window. A gust of wind burst inside taking Laura’s sketches in various states of readiness to fly. The window was closed quickly, but Laura still had to start collecting her papers. She had got them all and the few pencils when she noticed that one of her green pencils was missing. Putting the drawing and pencils she had already gathered onto the table she had been drawing at, Laura pulled on her braid and looked around worriedly. It was one of her best pencils and she didn’t want to loose it. Sighing Laura looked under a few armchairs near-by to see if the pencil had rolled under them, only to come up with nothing.

There was something to be said about an evening in the lounge with wizard wireless blasting in your ears and advanced charms open in your lap. He was reading about the Silencing Charm, moving his head with the beat when he decided to adjust his position, sliding his left foot across the floor in font of his chair. As he did he thought he felt something. Confused he moved his foot and looked down to see a pencil had rolled under. He pulled his hand out and levitated the idem, and looking around he saw a girl he knew was a Hufflepuff looking in his direction. He flashed her a grin, pulling the headphones of his wizards wireless, and used the moving charm to drift the pencil toward Laura.
"Did you loose something?"

The pencil was gone. Disappeared. Escaped. Biting into her lower lip Laura looked around her eyes slipping over an older Hufflepuff before moving back. He was levitating Laura’s pencil in the air and just then he asked Laura if she had lost something. A bright smile appeared on Laura’s smiles – it was a good pencil. She would have hated loosing it. “Yes, thank you, the pencils rolled off the table,” Laura smiled at the older Hufflepuff, trying to recall his name. Tugging harshly on her braid when she couldn’t remember it, Laura smiled doubtfully, “Thanks for giving it back. I was getting ready to panic already and sorry if it disturbed your studying in any way.”
With a quick glance Laura had discovered that the boy had been reading his charms book. Laura should actually do some revising herself as well, but she didn’t feel like it at all. She found drawing a much more pleasurable way of spending time. The fact hat Laura rather liked Charms didn’t matter. She preferred drawing to most other activities. Not counting quidditch. Quidditch was an absolutely wonderful game. Flying was absolutely fantastic – it made you feel free, happy, as if no worries existed. Noticing that she had drifted off in her thoughts again, Laura gave one more sharp tug to her braid and smiled hesitantly: “Thank you once again.” Turning Laura retreated to her table that wasn’t very far from where the boy was sitting. With her minds still occupied with the pleasures of flying Laura started to sketch without even thinking of it. Add a bit red to the hair, shadow the mouth. Laura realized with a surprise that she had been sketching the boy who had found her pencil. Since she had already started sketching him, she might as well finish the picture. Puling the paper over to herself Laura grinned and glancing up from time to time concentrated on drawing the boy. Hopefully he wouldn’t mind being used as a model like that.

His grin was wide as she took the pencil he floated over to her, happy he had returned the run away utensil to its rightful owner. Pencils were a precious commodity here in the land of parchment and quills. For one to have something so muggle as a pencil, pen or marker, along with regular paper, it became a treasured idem. He knew. He had three markers hidden in his trunk where Dill couldn't find them.
His headphones never quite made it back into his ears, and though he glanced down at his charms book, he didn't read a single word that was written on the page. Instead his mind was on Laura. He was rather certain that was her name. He had never really spoken to her, but she was in his house after all. He couldn't help but think that he knew her from something else as well though. Finally it hit up and he looked back over at her, his eyebrows raised as they always were when there was something on his mind he had not verbalized yet. He pulled out his wand and mumbled a charm, sending a yellow ribbon shooting out the end of it and toward Laura, then wrapping it around her braid when it reached her--it was his method of getting her attention.
"Your on the quidditch team aren't you?"

Laura drew happily. The boy sitting with the headphones around his neck, the book opened on his lap. Laura made sure to draw him correctly as the armchair was sketched out, but the rest of the paper was still blank. Yelping loudly and practically jumping out of her chair Laura stared at the yellow ribbon that had appeared around her braid and then followed it back to Payton. “Are you trying to give me heart-attack!” Laura gasped out at Payton before her eyes fell onto the picture she had drawn from the boy. A calligraphic ‘L’ with a small flower-bud was already added to the corner of the paper where she had been drawing him on.
“Oh, hope you don’t mind, I just started sketching without thinking,” Laura felt her cheeks get a light pinkish hue as she nervously bit her lower lip. Standing up Laura took the paper and walked over to the boy again, “I hope you don’t take any offence that I drew you.” Laura handed him the paper to see, “Feel free to destroy it, if you want.” Laura bit down harder in her lip – hopefully the boy wouldn’t take any offence. Luckily he wasn’t a Slytherin, so things should be too bad. “I’m Laura by the way,” Laura added as an after-thought waiting to hear criticism about drawing without asking for permission before. But if someone sat still and modeled for you, then the pictures never turned out right. They were missing liveliness.

He could not help but laugh at her heart-attack comment, but in true Payton style, it was too easy going to do anything but make someone smile. He always had that quality about him. He could smile and laugh when it almost seemed out of context, but that was him, he was ever lighthearted.
His eyebrows raised at when she said that she couldn't help herself and she handed him a sketch. It wasn't have bad really, but then he never had any talent with drawing so it didn't take much to impress him. "Well, Laura, I don't mind a bit. And I hope you don't mind if I skip that whole destroying thing and just keep it. I'm Payton by the way. I'm sure we have run into each other a time or two, but the name exchange thing never seemed to have happened."

Laura smiled with relief when the boy wasn’t angry. Sketching whatever she saw last when she fell into deep thought was just Laura. She always did it and mostly without purpose. But drawing people was interesting – you could catch one emotion suddenly and the next day it was gone. Laura had once seen an older Slytherin smile almost happily over something and had observed the Slytherin for months to see it again just to make sure it hadn’t been her imagination. But the Slytherin would graduate this year, so Laura had given up. She only sometimes wondered about how much the smile had changed the Slytherin girl.
“Yes, we have never gotten around to be introduced. It’s a pleasure to finally know who you are,” Laura said with a sweet smile and noticed that her fingers were covered with paint from earlier again, “You are a sixth year, am I right? Going to 7th year. Must be hard, at least I think it is. Not only because of the OWLs, but because Hogwarts is starting to end. I wouldn’t have any idea who I’d want to become after graduation, but luckily I still have time to think of it. Sorry, I’m babbling.” Laura tugged at her braid once before throwing it back over her shoulder again.

He responded to her babbling with another soft laugh, looking happily down at the sketch again. It really was rather good. Maybe he would frame it, or do what organized people do and put it in a book. A true Hogwarts memory.
"Ah yes, soon to be 7th year is right. And yes, it does feel a bit odd to know I am leaving. I'm not too concerned about OWLS, but its still leaving Hogwarts. Strange really, coming here as muggle born and all, and now trying to enter the wizarding world."
He shrugged, carefully rolling the sketch and tucking it safely into his pocket. "What about you though....4th year right? So you are going to be a 5th."

“Leaving Hogwarts. Hogwarts is such a stable place for me. I don’t know – I would feel funny if I would just wake up oone autumn and not have to hurry to the Hogwarts Express. I know I went to regular school without seen knowing magic existed until I received my Hogwarts letter until I was 11. But guess I’m so used to going to Hogwarts that I can’t imagine a life without the school. MY father was over-whelmed with joy when I got the letter. Mom and me were shocked – I’m a half-blood,” Laura smiled at the thought. Laura figured that her father who worked for Gringotts in Japan wouldn’t mind helping her get a job in the magical world. But then again Laura didn’t want to leave the muggle world completely behind either. It was a dilemma for her. She didn’t want to loose either world, but Laura wasn’t sure there would be a place for her in both worlds at once.
“No, I’m a third year. Starting my fourth here,” Laura corrected with a light smile bringing her pencils and papers and curling up in an armchair. Placing a notebook on her knees Laura placed a sheet of paper on it and started to sketch a sleeping puppy.

He gave Laura an easy going smile and shrugged in response to her correction. He was close enough. She was a few years younger than him, the exact year didn't matter so much. He remember his own fathers reaction to his two boy's Hogwarts letter. It took a while for it to really sink in. "Its a bit of a shock for muggles really--after growing up thinking its something from fairy tales just to find out that we get to live it. Not a back shock though, I have gotten a bit use to my wand." He grinned an twirled his wand his fingers before mumbling a simple charm that caused a thing yellow ribbon to come from the tip of his wand a wrap around the pencil that had found its way to his chair not long before. "Seems hard to play muggle after spending the school year here being able to use my wand for everything."
