Crisp air surrounded Seth as he trudged his way back towards the castle. He had just finished his daily outside reading that he had made himself do every morning, so that he got adequate amount of fresh air. Feeling his face go numb, he wrapped his scarf neatly so that his nose and everything on his face below it was covered. All that shown on Seth was his sparkling brown eyes that seemed to be watering because of the cold air.
Hearing the howling of the wind and the quiteness that surrounded him, he sped up, as the noises and the alone feeling swept through him. Making his way towards the castle, he opened the huge doors and immediately felt his face become a rosy red in color. He put his book into the front of his cloak and then began disposing of his scarf, beanie, and gloves, that he had used for warmth, placing them in the other pockets of his cloak.
Stomping the snow off of his shoes with every step, he looked back and noticed a trial of snow following him. Turning back in the right direction, he lost control of his feet and he became aware of the slipperyness of the bottom's of his shoes. He went flying through the air and ended his fall hard on his butt. He put his right hand over his eyes, and felt embarrassment as 2 girls from Hufflepuff walked passed chuckling. "Man!" he grumbled as he picked up his book that flew out of his pocket. He got himself up and began rubbing his butt free of pain.
Carefully walking towards the common room, he made a U turn and decided that a trip to the cozy student lounge would be better. Opening the doors, his nose went crazy as he smelled dust lingering. "Achoo!" he squealed noticing that his sneeze had echoed throughout the lounge. Looking around to see if anyone had cared he noticed only about 4 or 5 kids had been in there.
Making himself at home, he made his way towards the fire and sat with a thud onto the couch. Feeling the pain in his butt come back, he carefully made himself comfortable in a laying posistion and closed his eyes, listening to the muffled talking and laughing that surrounded him.

Mary smiled as she read, snuggled into a cozy corner of the student lounge. It was much too drafty in the Slytherin areas this evening. As she flipped over the last page Mary sighed wishing the story would go on. When the story was finished Mary closed the book and let it slip to the floor relaxing back with her eyes closed revelling in the warmth of the room. She yawned lazily reaching her arms above her head when she heard somebody sneeze. Not an unusual sound in the lounge by any means, especially not in the winter, but she opened her eyes anyways and looked for the source.
Mary noticed a boy who she didn’t know walk up to the fire alone. He had laid down on one of the couches and closed his eyes; ‘good idea’ Mary thought. Unfortunately his entrance had disrupted her solace and it would be difficult to relax like that again. She picked up her book and walked over to a chair beside him. She positioned herself so she was sitting in it with her legs hanging over one end and her head the other. “Hello” she said to him her head inches from his that was resting on the arm of his couch.

Hearing that someone had said hello, Seth opened one eye, to get a peek at who it was. To his surprise, a girl had been in a posistion that made her rather close to him. Seth yawned and then continued to opening his other eye. "Hey there." he said in a rather flirtatious way. "I'm uh," he said in loss of words, as he had realized that no girl had ever wanted to be close to him before. "Seth." he managed to stumble out with a goofy looking smile.

Mary grinned at the boy as he opened his eyes. He seemed extremely nice but when he open his eyes fully he suddenly became uncomfortable and sputtered out that his name was Seth. Hoping to put him at ease Mary scooted down in her chair so that her head was on the top of the arm rather than the side directly in front of his. She pulled her strawberry blond hair aside seeing as it was now hanging into his face. “Mary” she said reaching her hand above her head for an awkward yet unique handshake without forcing either of them to sit up.
“You looked as if you were in some pain stumbling over here; do you need me to fetch you Madam Pomfrey?” Mary commented eyes closed once again, hoping he was still awake enough to chat.

Seth blushed as Mary had asked if he had needed assistance from Madam Pomfrey. "Yeah, I'm pretty clumsy, but I'm used to the bumps, bruises, and aches after 17 years." Seth said as he put himself in a posistion which allowed him to rub his backside free from pain. "Pardon my ungentlemen like conduct, but it has to be done. My bloody butt is killing me. Quite a wipe out I had, glad no one saw me though." Seth said as he quickly remembered the 2 girls he had ran into.
"So Mary, my friend, please, tell me about yourself." Seth said yawning and snuggling his head on his arm.

Mary giggled as Seth said something about getting hurt or falling or whatever wipe out or whatever means; she didn’t know. So long as he wasn’t in need a medical assistance it was all good and she as allowed to laugh. She opened her eyes as he asked her about herself. “Well not much to say really. Third year Slytherin female; that much is obvious. I play beater although I will be playing chaser in the upcoming game. I read; a lot. I listen to music, anything from the rock type genres; be it magical or muggle. I love anthropology. I really don’t know what to say. How about I ask you the same and get more of an idea as to what you want to know.” Mary finished sitting up on her side and resting on her arm so she could grin at him.

Seth smiled as Mary began to tell him about herself. Seth was especially interested in her music tastes. Sitting up straight, Seth sprawled his legs and began to speak, "Well, I'm a 6th year Ravenclaw, and I love to read. I try to read atleast 4 or 5 books a week. Mostly muggle ones though, my father is a muggle." Seth said in a proud fashion. He had seen that Mary didn't look like the type of Slytherian to hate someone for having a muggle parent. "Yeah he's a muggle," he continued. "He is always sending me muggle books and bunches of classic muggle music. I am very interested in music, I play the guitar, and that's my life." Seth readjustment himself and smiled, "Reading and music, mostly rock just as yourself, but I will basically listen to all types." Seth exclaimed.
"So your're a Slytherian huh? You don't seem like the rest. Which is definately a plus, because most of them hold grudges against me, because I am not a pureblood." Seth said cracking his fingers.

Mary watched Seth as he talked about being a sixth year Ravenclaw and loving to read. Mary always had a book on her and it was always nice to meet people who understood why. “Muggle books are very neat a lot of the time. I have trouble understanding the characters sometimes though; not that we and muggles are so different I just sometimes remember that they need to find ways to compensate for the lack of magic. Their fantasy books are so funny sometimes though; the creatures they get wrong. We obviously do a very good job at hiding them.” Mary said with a grin. Seth then explained that his father was a muggle and that got him to read a number of muggle books and listen to muggle music.
He mentioned that he played guitar and preferred rock music although he would listen to most anything. “In muggle music I actually only listen to rock because the others I have heard were so annoying. What is it they call it? Pog music or something Rag? Gosh they annoy me the P thing is so sappy and the R thing you cant understand a word they are saying even during the rare moments you can make out the words they are all an odd form of slang which is completely incomprehensible.”
Mary slumped back in her seat relaxing against the arm once again as Seth commented on her being an unusual Slytherin and most resenting his muggle blood. She was going to make a joke that she did care and refused to speak to him now but then remembered that he was a virtual stranger and that may not go over so well so she settled for the boring old truth. “Well… I suppose I don’t seem like the cliché intolerant Slytherin because I’m not. As I said I am fascinated by anthropology and muggle culture is something I study. They are very interesting and not at all unlike ourselves. I took a muggle course in Psychology, Anthropology, and Sociology one summer. I couldn’t live like a muggle though, definitely not. I had so much trouble doing things without magic I didn’t even bring my wand in case and forgot and took it out. But without my wand I felt so powerless; it was terrifying. They must live like that everyday. I couldn’t do it; I’m not that strong.”
