Katie woke up to the sound of noises in the Gryffindor girl’s dormitory. She got up and yawned and streched her arms out into the air. She looked around again and saw everyone leaving or asleep. This made Katie smile and she got out her warm red sweatpants, long orange turtle neck, and a fuzzy sweat shirt. After putting her clothes on she got out her brush and brushed her hair while looking out the window. There was snow everywhere and there were tiny snowflakes dropping from the sky and swirling to the ground. This made Katie smile and she put down her brush and walked down the common room stairs and down the corridors.
She was heading for the student lounge where everyone hanged out instead of the courtyard. Katie could feel chills coming from her legs to her arms and she tugged her sweatshirt tighter on her. As she reached the student lounge it wasn’t all busy and Katie took a seat in a big couch by the fire. She than looked into the fire and snuggled herself in the couch. She felt warm and Katie rested her head back on the couch and closed her eyes enjoying the heat.

Ivy woke early on the Saturday morning in early December. She breakfasted whilst there was alomst no one else in the Hall, and went down to the Owlery to send a letter to Fanny. It was on her way back that she decided to enter the Student Lounge. It was a stupid decision really - she would have been better off brooding on her own. Maybe outside in the cold, where few people were venturing. But then again, she had learned from experience that you would always be involved in snowball fights when you didn't want to be. Probably even at this time of the morning. Hopefully not by Brooke again, though.
Ivy entered the student lounge. There was hardly anyone in there. Ivy saw Katie and reluctantly headed in her direction. She would probably understand, actually, if Ivy told her. Kiyla knew of course, although that had been unavoidable. She had been very nice, and very supportive. But that didn't change the underlying fact.
With a heavy heart, Ivy sat down in an armchair near to where Katie was lying. She said nothing, immersed in her own thoughts.

Katie smiled as she stared into the fire, she felt cold inside and outside. Its probaly becuase she had to visit her father very soon. She didn't wont to.... but Jordan will be with her and he might now hit her when Jordan was around. Katie gulped and she than looked up at Ivy and smiled. Katie could see the hurt in her eyes like losing some one close to you. Those were her eyes when she lost her mother.
Katie sat up and looked at Ivy and smiled warmily. She looked into Ivy eyes and like before she could see the sadness within them. Katie sighed and looked into the fire.
"Whats wrong Ivy?" Katie asked and she pulled a blanket around her. She felt not so cold now but her heart felt icy cold.

Ivy looked into Katie's for once serious eyes and hers filled with tears. Now did she have to tell everyone? Ivy understood how hard it must have been for Fanny to break the news to her. And now Ivy's future was so uncertain.
Ivy couldn't remember what she had told Katie of her father. She wasn't sure she'd even said anything. But for it to have been, as Fanny seemed to think, indirectly caused by her mother... that was worse. The mother who had turned her back on her daughter seemed to have left her without a father. Who now could Ivy turn to?
Ivy drew her knees up into a huddle and she rocked herself gently back and forward. To retreat from the world - that seemed best. She drew out the letter that she had kept with her and handed it to Katie. She couldn't explain herself. How was she supposed to articulate the terrible grief?

Katie looked into Ivys eyes filled with tears. She knew nothing about Ivy past expect her mother left her but that was all Ivy told Katie. She took the letter and read it. As she finshed she reread it and looked up at Ivy as she rocked back and forth.
"I am so sorry....." Katie said trying to comfort Ivy. That was all Katie could do, was comfort her friend and make her remember the good times. Katie sighed and handed the letter back to Ivy. She smiled warmly at her friend and tried to comfort her.
"I don't really know about your past...... I don't really ask its get too painful to take about it. Trust me I know how you feel." Katie said looking into the fire. She sighed and looked both directions making sure no one else was listening in on their convertion. No one was around and Katie pulled up her right sleve and showed Ivy the bruises her father had given her. She than pulled it back down and stared blankly at Ivy.
"I would really like to get to know you better. You already know me but I don't know you." Katie said smiling at Ivy.

Ivy persuaded herself she was being pathetic and came out of her huddle. She rubbed her eyes and looked at Katie mournfully. She said nothing. She knew that Katie was here for her. She knew that Katie was a good friend. So were many other people - but to none of them could she express quite how she felt. How... lonely she felt, now that her one last family member had gone. After all, what hope was there now that her mother would come back, when she already had other children for whom she cared more than Ivy?
Ivy looked in horror at the bruises on Katie's arm. They were really nasty. She could understand now properly just why Katie had been adopted by Jordan's family. She was glad for Katie. Ivy smiled sadly at Katie as she put her arm away again. At least that was better now. Maybe for Katie she would always feel abandoned by her father now. But at least that had been her choice. It hadn't been Ivy's choice to be abandoned by her mother... or had it? Ivy wasn't sure about anything anymore.
"Yes," Ivy said, attempting a smile but failing miserably. How could she smile when inside, not even all that far away from the surface, she hurt so very, very, much?

Katie took back her bruised arm and put her long selve over it. She looked up at Ivy who seemed confused and hurt. Katie didnt know what to do or even say, all she could do was try to comfort her friend and make her feel better. But Katie was confused about Ivy past she didnt know where she lived, who she live with, or who was left in her family. Nomarly Katie didnt really like to ask such personal stuff but if she wonted to say something to comfort her friend she needed to know more.
"If you would like.....can you tell me about your past? i really need to know it to get to really know you and make you feel a little better." Katie said pating Ivy shoulder and continuing to look into her hurtful eyes. This was making Katie wont to cry but she held back the tears and gave Ivy her full attention.

Ivy sighed and looked down at her feet, a hand over her eyes and her long hair falling over her face like a curtain. She didn't know what to say. She wasn't sure she could tell her past. She didn't know what her past was anymore. There was... her mother... and her father... and this randomer guy who had meant she now had... half brothers and sisters. What was she supposed to make of that? She was so confused in her own mind, that she didn't know how she could tell Katie about it.
Ivy looked up at Katie. "Yes, yes I can tell," she said, her eyes full of pain that wouldn't come out. She looked across the room, so empty. No eavedroppers. Just as well. What did it matter though? What did it matter? Why didn't the whole world just know the ins and outs of Ivy's messed up life and family? As if there was any family left.

Katie continued to look into Ivy hurt eyes they seemed endless with the pain. She could feel tears swell up in her eyes but she blinked them away. This wasnt going to be a pleasant experse for Ivy to tell her past, but Katie wonted to know, she wonted to make her feel better and even drain the saddness away. But nothing worked like that it took years to forget the pain but if you had great friends that cared about you you could continue in life.
Katie tucked her legs under her and rested her head on her knees and looked at Ivy. She smiled and encouarging smile and waitied patiently to hear Ivy life long story. She knew how ivy felt about talking about her past and she could wait as long as it was needed to hear it. Katie smiled encouaging again and all she could hear the sound of the fire crackling. No one else was around it was too earlier for everyone to wake up.
