Kadan watched as Alyson opened the package and pulled out a green and silver tie. He had a similar one, yet it was blue and bronze. Fiona seemed rather pleased with the gift even though it was from a total stranger.
Fiona began getting a little curious and asked Kadan exactly why he had stopped to visit. His heart stopped for a second. He hadn't wanted to talk about the matter just yet, and especially with Alyson around. He didn't know if he should be truthful and tell Fiona now, or wait until they were alone. He decided to wait for the truth. "You just looked like you needed some company," he lied. "But I can leave if you'd prefer that I weren't here." He hoped she would insist he stay, and that instead Alyson would leave. It wasn't that he had anything against Alyson, but he thought their conversation would be most productive if she weren't there. He sat a smiled, trying to cover the fact that his mind was racing inside.

Fiona thought something was fishy with the way Kadan answered her question. He seemed to be avoiding something and her heart quickened at this thought. She was interested to know what he was hiding, but figured there was a reason he was hiding it.
Instead her attention turned to Alyson. She remembered their last encounter and was a bit surprised that she had stopped by to see her. It wasn't like their conversation had ended on a good note, in fact Fiona had ended up walking out on it. She wondered if Alyson had actually chosen a side.
Her gaze turned back to Kadan and her curiosity flared. 'Curiosity killed the cat,' Fiona reminded herself of the old saying. 'Then again, I'm not a cat,' Fiona thought with a smile. She had been using that excuse for years so she could do things without feeling bad. "Oh,Kadan please stay. I've been enjoying your company and would absolutely hate it if you left. Alyson, do you mind if I talk with Kadan alone for a few minutes. It shouldn't take too long. At least I don't think it will," Fiona said as she glanced at Kadan. She wasn't sure what Alyson would say about being excluded from the conversation, but Fiona felt that Kadan would be more willing to discuss what he was hiding if he were alone. Fiona gazed back at Alyson and silently pleaded with her. Fiona hoped Alyson would understand and if she didn't Fiona would make it up to her somehow.

Alyson's heart started to beat a little fast. Even though she knew Kadan for so little she knew he was lying. She understood why. Well she thought so. Her mind was yelling why and she wondered if they had a chance if they got to know each other would Fiona have a better one. Well it seem like it. But Alyson wouldn't lose her cool. With a forced smile on her face she replied. " Of course. I was goinng to get some coffee I'lll be back." She said as she got up from her chair. She gave Kadan a look. Your suppose to be a knight look. With her eyes but , got up and when to the other side of the hospital wing. she con'y hear anything but she could see. And she was good at reading emoitions.
AS she stood with her back on the wall. She asked her self over and over. Why. We had fun the other day. But are we meant to be just friends. Shoould I have come today and ruined this she asked. The rain outside matched how she felt on the inside. But she wasn't on the wonder from the truth. She was goinng to tell him. She was goinng to talk to him. Alone or infront of Fiona.

Kadan felt his blood pressure rising as Fiona asked Alyson to leave. They knew I was lying, he thought to himself. I really need to work on concealing the truth sometimes. He watched as Alyson left, her eyes were like a laser pointed right at him. He didn't care. He now had Fiona alone and wasn't going to let the moment slip away. Thinking about what to say first, Kadan simply blurted, "Tell me about your dad." He realized that probably wasn't the best way to start. "Wait," he interrupted. "Let me explain some things first."
He gathered his composure and began explaining the whole thing to Fiona. "First, I would like to say that I really do feel bad for you and I did want to make sure you were okay. But I do have to admit, I'd been planning on having this conversation with you the whole time. Alyson showed up though before I had a chance to get into it. Anyways," he paused. He didn't want to sound so inconsiderate, but he knew he had to do it. He continued, "I know your dad was a Death Eater. That is, if you are the O'Reilly that I think you are."
He stopped again, and looked at Fiona. He wasn't sure what she was thinking inside, but he figured it best to give his whole story before letting her respond. "I'm not sure if you are aware, but last year there had been rumors started that my mother may herself have been a Death Eater too. I never was sure if the rumors were true or not, but I lost a lot of good friends over them. So one day, while at my grandma's house I was in the attic looking for some of my school things that I kept stored at her house, and I found a book. It belonged to my mother." The thought of his mother made him pause yet again, but he continued once more.
It was somewhat like a diary, but not exactly. I began reading it out of curiosity. What was inside changed my life forever," he explained. "The book confirmed that my mom was a Death Eater." He didn't feel like reciting the details of the book. "So anyways," he added, "I saw the name of an O'Reilly in the book. Sean O'Reilly, I think. I remembered hearing the name O'Reilly here at Hogwarts, and then I found you." He looked up at Fiona once more. Sure that she was dying to talk, he stopped, this time allowing for a response.

Fiona watched Alyson leave. She was sorry that Alyson couldn't participate in the conversation, but she felt that Kadan needed to talk about something important. Fiona looked back at Kadan with curiosity. "OK, spill it," Fiona said with interest. She wasn't about to let him get away with not telling her what was up. Fiona cleared her mind of all thoughts and reactions. She wasn't about to let him see what she was thinking. She was really good at acting, after all she was in Slytherin.
Kadan began to speak and Fiona was slightly surprised, though she didn't show it. 'He wants to know about my da?' Fiona thought to herself. She wondered why, but he seemed to think he said something out of line and began again. He didn't give her time to respond to anything as he continued on with his monologue. All the time her thoughts were racing, but she didn't open her mouth to protest or say anything. 'He knows about my father But he doesn't know about his mother. He's going to freak,' Fiona thought to herself as she watched Kadan. She felt sorry for him. He didn't know anything about his mother's life and Fiona did.
As Kadan continued Fiona realized that he knew about his mother. Although, she wasn't sure what details he knew or had read about. She hid her emotions from him and didn't interrupt him. When he finally came to an end Fiona sat quietly for a few moments on her bed. She wasn't sure what he was asking of her. "What do you want me to tell you? I am the O'Reilly that you seek but how does that help you? Are you asking me to tell you about your mother?" Fiona asked with ease. She hoped her voice came across as soothing as possible. She didn't want him to freak out if she answered his next questions.

Kadan sat in shock as Fiona didn't react at all as he had thought she would. He expected her to freak out, because of his being nosy or because he figured she didn't want to talk about it. Instead, she acted as though it were no big deal and in fact seemed to be willing to reveal what she knew about the subject. "I- I guess I just wanted to talk about it with you since you are kind of in the same situation as me," he stuttered. "You must know more than me. I mean you probably weren't lied to about the fact that your dad was a Death Eater." He paused as his mind spun furiously. He sat and waited to see what Fiona would say.

Fiona didn't know how much Kadan knew about his mother, but she figured it wasn't much. She looked at him with a look close to pity. She was glad her parents had never put her in his position. She had never been lied to about the fact that most of her family served the Dark Lord. It was a proud job to have in Fiona's family. To serve the Dark Lord meant that you were powerful and understood what the Dark Lord wanted. It was something that Fiona wanted to do even now. She thought about what to say before she answered Kadan. She didn't want him to think of her as some kind of freak for not taking it more seriously, but she had known about it ever since she was a child.
Fiona took a deep breath before finally speaking. "Kadan, some things are better left unsaid. I know to some degree what you're going through. I have heard of your mother, Kadan. She is indeed a Death Eater that used to work closely with my Da, at least that's what he always told me. If you're looking for information then I can definitely help you, but if you're looking for someone to help get your mother out of there, then you've got the wrong person. Kadan, you must understand me to understand other Death Eaters. I believe that the Dark Lord is right. I can only hope to serve him one day like my father before me. I don't know if that helps you. You're a great guy Kadan, but you must see that the Dark Lord is right. I can only assume that you're a pureblood and with that comes the honor of being able to serve him. It's the path that I've chosen," Fiona said. She wasn't sure why she was allowing Kadan to know so much. But she felt like he needed to know. Her heart was racing as she watched him for his reaction. She was afraid that Kadan wouldn't understand her. Fiona empathized with Kadan, but she didn't feel sorry about the fact that his mother was working for the Dark Lord. It was an honorable position to have and Fiona could only hope that Kadan would at least understand that. However, she felt like he would never understand. Only the ones who truly embraced the Dark Lord could understand.

Kadan's heart stopped. "Wait!" he said as his face turned whiter than the sheets on Fiona's hospital bed. "She is a Death Eater or do you mean was a Death Eater?" he asked totally confused. As far as he knew, his mother was dead. "As for being a pureblood... I'm not," he added. "My dad is a muggle." He sat, totally silent as he thought about what Fiona said. He didn't really care that she planned on being a Death Eater and didn't mind the fact that she wanted to work for Voldemort. His only concern was that Fiona said 'is' as if his mother was not dead. He was a statue, waiting for her to answer him.

Fiona bit her lip as Kadan exploded. She hadn't realized that he thought his mother dead. She of course didn't know for sure, but there was something fishy about the whole thing. She thought she knew enough about his mother, but she was wrong. Fiona quickly responded to his question, "Of course I meant was," she sighed, she didn't really know his mother was dead. Her father had always talked about her like she was alive, but if Kadan said she was dead, than she had to believe him. However, a face of a woman forever played at the back of her mind. Fiona watched Kadan closely as he seemed to seriously consider his mother still being alive. Fiona didn't say anything for a few minutes. Letting silence fall between them while Fiona sat choosing her next words carefully.
"Kadan, you're not a pureblood? Are you sure your father is...well your father? Don't get me wrong," Fiona said quickly trying to get everything out at once, "but from what I've heard about your mum, I don't see her consorting with a muggle. Is it conceivable that she lied to you about that too?" Fiona didn't want to push her luck with Kadan, after all he was a nice guy, but something was just not fitting together in the grand scheme of things. Something was wrong and she knew it had to do with Kadan, although she wasn't exactly sure what. If only her father was still alive then she could ask him about Kadan's mum. She felt like her father had left something important out when he had talked about the woman. Fiona couldn't understand why he would unless it was something important. She pushed these doubts to the back of her mind as she watched Kadan for his reaction. She had no idea how he would react to her questions about his birth father, but something just didn't fit about it. Fiona had known Kadan's mum to be one completely into pureblood origin and anything less was considered dirt. She could believe that the woman had changed that much.

"I never talked to my mom," Kadan explained at the question of her lying about his father being his true father. He got instantly silent. Suddenly it all made sense. "Oh my goodness," he gasped. "It's all because of me!" he shook in disbelief. Anger filled him. "They killed her because of me!" he shouted at Fiona. "I just know it... it all makes sense, doesn't it?" he looked at Fiona hoping she would back him up assuming she understood what he meant. He continued, "It only seems plausible that they killed her b-because she had me to my muggle father!" It made perfect sense to Kadan. "Which means my sister must have a different mother, explaining why she is a muggle." He felt a tear in his eye. His hands were white as he realized he had been squeezing his wand tightly. He looked at Fiona, his face almost begging for some kind of response, good or bad.

Fiona bit her lip as Kadan began to shout. She looked around and noticed a few looks of curiosity from other people there. She didn't want to stop Kadan, he obviously needed to get it all out and that was enough for her too keep quiet. Fiona watched quietly as he blamed himself for his mothers death. They had more in common than he thought they did. She held back the tears that were close to spilling. She had been blaming herself for her parents death the last couple weeks. Fiona didn't know why, but suddenly her heart cried out for Kadan and against the pain she felt she moved off her bed and knelt before his chair. She fought against the pain in her shoulder and concentrated on the words she was going to say.
"Kadan, I understand what you're going through. About two weeks ago I watched my mum kill my da and then jump off a cliff outside our home. It was all because of me, my mum was tired of my da using magic on me and so she killed him. I've been blaming myself for the past couple weeks. I know it was my fault that it happened, but you don't know if your mum was killed because of your da. Don't go blaming yourself until you know all the facts," Fiona said in a comforting voice. She never imagined herself in such a position, but Kadan's mum deserved respect as well as her offspring. Fiona placed her hand on Kadan's in comfort. She didn't know how he would react or whether he would stick around after the gesture, but she felt like he needed a friend, someone he could count on to understand and she definitely did understand.

Alyson stood with her back up against the wall. She watched Fiona and Kadan talk. Just talk. She watch as he raised his tone. After thirty minutes. It seemed like forever she walked back slowly but surley.
" Sorry if i'm cutting in. But I think I should have come back she said." She said as she stood looking at them. Her eyes were sety on the pair and she hoped the didn't see what seh really felt.

Realizing he was drawing attention to himself, Kadan quieted down a little. His mind never stopped as he replayed his theory over and over again. He watched as Fiona rose from her bed and knelt at his side. She assured him is wasn't his fault and placed her hand on his which was still clutching his wand.
He didn't understand why Fiona cared so much but he was grateful. He found himself shrouded with guilt as he looked down at Fiona who still had never been healed of her injuries. "Please," he whispered, "You should be resting." He insisted that she return to her bed. "I've done nothing for you but use you," he said, a little ashamed of himself. He wiped his eye, holding back more tears. "I had no right to do this," he added. "You should be the one who needs comfort right now. I was selfish to have came."
He was about to leave, just as Alyson returned. Glad that she hadn't come back a minute sooner, he figured he should stay so that things appeared to be normal. Once again, her eyes were like lasers aimed right at Kadan. He glanced back at Fiona, hoping she understood that they should finish this conversation at a later time. "It's okay Alyson," he said in a casual voice, trying to hide the fact that he and Fiona had just had a very eventful conversation. "We were just talking about what classes we have this year," he lied- this time trying a little harder to make himself sound believable. He looked to Fiona for some backup.

Fiona looked up at Kadan and ignored the pain that seemed to flare in her shoulder. She didn't know why she cared so much about Kadan's problems. Especially since he wasn't a pureblood, but there was something about his situation that made her want to help him. She had never helped anyone but herself and that's what she liked, but here she was helping Kadan understand his past. She had much in common with him and that was what confused her about helping him. It was almost like she was helping herself through his pain.
Fiona smiled at Kadan when he told her she should be resting. "You know you should have been in Slytherin. At the moment you were thinking more about yourself than for others, but I don't blame you. I guess if you look at me, I was thinking more about you than myself. Odd for a Slytherin," Fiona said with a small laugh. She was trying to lighten the mood and help Kadan not be so depressing. As she was about to continue their conversation Alyson returned. Fiona knew it probably looked odd for her to be kneeling in front of Kadan with her hand on his. She wondered if their was something between Alyson and Kadan. She quickly released his hand and stood.
Kadan tried to lie to Alyson about the conversation. He looked at Fiona for help and Fiona nodded. "I was just about to tell him that I could help him in Potions if he really needed it. After all, Professor Snape can be biased," Fiona lied with Kadan. If he didn't want Alyson to know what was going on she would go along with that. As far as Fiona knew there were some dark things in Kadan's past that he needed to deal with. Fiona sat back on her bed and leaned against the pillow on the head raised bed. She winced quietly at the pain that seemed to increase as she started to think about it. She hated the pain, but there wasn't anything she could do to rid herself of it. As soon as Madam Pomfrey got around to healing her she'd be fine. Fiona reached over and grabbed her glass of water and took a deep drink letting the water ease some of the pain. She looked back at the others hoping they hadn't seen her in pain. "So, Alyson what classes are you planning on taking this coming year?" Fiona asked as she sat the glass back down. The silence that had fallen between the three was too much for Fiona to deal with.

" Well I haven't decided yet. I'm really for something challenging." Alyson said. She had a small smile on her face. She felt something wasn't right but she wasn't gionng to tel them that. Fiona was back on her bed and looked to be in pain. Alyson set back down n her seat. " Because of the attack you haven't got your supplies yet? Well I could come and help you." Alyson said. She was there for hre friend not her own reasons.
She reduced the look she gave Kadan the minutes before and put on a smile. It was an apolizing smile. As if to say I'm sorry.

Kadan half listened as Fiona made small talk with Alyson. He could have cared less about what subjects she was taking. I have more important issues, he thought as Alyson replied. Just then, Fiona's words sunk in. Maybe he was more like a Slytherin than a Ravenclaw. He had been acting very selfish lately and he could tell he wasn't being his normal kind self. Alyson found out that she had a twin that she never knew of and Fiona had been attacked, yet he still managed to think of one thing: himself. He began to rationalize this new thought. I'm normally too kind to be in Slytherin. I have a valid reason to be upset now and think of me, he thought. With each new excuse he conjured in his mind, he felt more and more that Fiona had a point. He brushed the idea off and returned back to reality.
"That's cool," he muttered in response to Alyson. He hadn't even heard what she said but figured he couldn't go wrong with a response like that. He realized he should probably go soon. He knew he had troubled Fiona enough. He looked at Fiona and could have swore he saw her wince in pain. "Well, I should probably get going," he announced in a dull voice. "Hope you get healed soon Fiona," he said with a smile. Then, without even really thinking about it he leaned over to hug her, but hugging her wasn't his real intention. As he was bent down hugging her, he whispered in her ear silently enough so Alyson could not hear, "I'll send you an owl concerning all of this."
Standing back up, he looked at Alyson. He couldn't really tell what she was thinking from her expression, but he was sure that her mind had to racing. "See ya later Alyson," he added. With that, he turned and headed out of the hospital wing. A few people starred at him as he left, probably glad to see him go, as he had been a little loud a few times during his visit. I will get to the bottom of this, he thought, even if I have to act more like a Slytherin than a Ravenclaw. The hospital room disappeared and he walked silently through the deserted halls of Hogwarts.

Alyson watched Kadan in disbelief. He hugged Fiona but why he say his lips move. Secerts he left with a simple goodbye.
Alyson looked at Fiona. " I better get goinng as well. Feel better soon." She said as she left her freinds hospital bed.

Fiona smiled at the small talk, though she kept glancing at Kadan. He seemed to be completely oblivious to the conversation, but once Alyson finished he said something. Fiona wasn't paying much attention either. She kept thinking about Kadan's situation. He seemed to be pretty distressed about it all and she felt bad for him. Though, she couldn't figure out why she cared. Maybe it was because her da had always talked about Kadan's mum. He had mentioned her several times when she was just a little girl. He had seemed to think she was a great follower of the Dark Lord, but he must have been wrong, because she went together with a muggle.
Fiona's attention turned back to Alyson as she finished. However, it didn't stay there too long for Kadan got up to leave. Fiona was surprised when he leaned in to hug her. She placed her good arm around him and he whispered in her ear. She nodded as he said he'd send an owl. She really did want to help him. Fiona glanced at Alyson to see if she was OK with this, but Fiona couldn't really see her reaction. Kadan said goodbye and then left, leaving Alyson and Fiona alone. However, as soon as Kadan left Alyson seemed to want to go too. Fiona smiled a goodbye at the two before they both left. "Bye," she said quietly. Turning her attention back to her book; she began to read to take her attention off of her hurt arm. She was glad for the silence, but she still couldn't quiet her mind about Kadan. She sighed as she put the book down and began to think about what he said. Before long she fell asleep still with thoughts of Kadan running through her mind.
