Robin had just finished preparing himself for the ball. He was going as a pirate; a villain he had always found interesting in the Muggle literature he had read. He adjusted his eye-patch one last time as he looked in the mirror before him. "You like such a bad boy," said the mirror. "Perfect," replied Robin cheerfully. "I am a bad boy." Robin was wearing a pirate hat with a skull and cross bones on it and a sailor outfit. He had wrapped his left leg in brown felt for a wooden leg, and had attached a hook to his left hand which he would remove when he and Dorian decided to dance. He also had a bottle of rum with him, which actually contained something quite different. It was meant a surprise for Dorian; for once she opened the bottle a bunch of roses would spring out of it by means of a tricky charm Robin had cast upon it. Robin walked into the Great Hall and awaited the arrival of his date. He was early today and he knew girls liked to take their time getting ready, though for some reason he did not think Dorian was one of those girls. They had very different personalities, but Robin was sure he and Dorian could enjoy the night. "After all, it's just a dance, nothing too serious," thought Robin. He watched the other students start mingling and hoped Dumbledore had appointed a good band. Robin loved music and played the guitar himself. He was looking forward to enjoying the night dancing with Dorian. ((Madam Pomfrey whether you would like to post or not is entirely up to you. )

"Oh Dorian!" said Julie, running to her friend's side. She stroked her blonde hair away from her forehead and kissed her friend feeling sorry that she was sick on such an occasion. "I wish I could stay with you, but Harry is waiting for me downstairs. I'll tell Robin you're ill, don't you worry about anything and try and get better," said Julie comfortingly. She gave Dorian's shoulder a squeeze before leaving and went to look for Robin.
Robin was in the Great Hall, waiting for his date. Julie felt bad about having to tell him the news that would spoil his night, but there was no time to waste as she had her own date to look for. Julie approached Robin and sighed before telling him the news. "Hi Robin! I'm sorry to be the one to have to tell you this, but Dorian's my friend you see, and well she was taken ill this morning and now she's in the hospital wing. She won't be able to come tonight and she wanted me to apologise for her," said Julie. She waited for a few minutes before leaving for his reaction, hoping he would not be too disappointed. From what she knew Dorian and Robin were just friends, she was helping him with his studies and their friendship had evolved from there, but there was nothing serious between them. Robin was also very popular and she thought he could easily dance with the other girls who were going stag if he wanted to.

A sixth year he did not know too well suddenly ran to him with a worried expression on her face. He had noticed her before though because her hair was a lot longer than a lot of the girls at Hogwarts, and more recently because he had seen her with Harry and heard people talking about them. Wondering what on earth could be the problem on such a night Robin listened to what she had to say to him, the news she had for him making him feel very disappointed. He frowned at Julie for a minute then remembered his manners. "Thanks for delivering the message. You go enjoy your night, OK?" he said, with an attempt at his usual cheerful manner.
Robin sat down and thought for a minute. He knew he could enjoy his night dancing with other girls if he wanted to, and after all he had been looking forward to dancing all night until he was out-of-breath, but he couldn’t shake off the feeling of worry inside him about Dorian. He was responsible for her in a way; she was his friend and the date he had chosen for tonight. More importantly she had helped him during the year with his school work, and even done so gladly despite her having her own studies to contend with, what could be a better time than tonight for him to show some gratitude?
Robin held his bottle of rum in his right hand as he made his way to the hospital wing. He opened the door and peered in, looking to see if Madam Pomfrey was inside so he could take permission to sit with Dorian. She was nowhere in sight, so Robin tiptoed into the room and went quietly to the only occupied bed. He walked as quietly as he could, smiled broadly at the girl who was in the bed, and then pulled a chair and sat down beside her "Hello there!" he said in a low voice. "Your friend with the long brown hair came and told me you're a little under the weather. I couldn't possibly leave my beautiful date sick in bed and go dance so I decided to come and see you," he said, hoping Dorian wasn't feeling too bad about having to spend Halloween in bed.

Dorian lay in a bed in the hospital wing, she had been fine all last week, only a little sniffle, now she had bronchitis on the worst day to be sick as well…the Halloween Ball. She coughed and coughed, her chest hurt her so much and it was a little hard to breathe. She had been their since the morning when two of her housemates had called Madam Pomfrey when they realised she had a high fever and was rambling. Madam Pomfrey had ordered her to be brought immediately to the hospital wing. Her hair was wet and stuck to her forehead, the fever had broken through the skilful work of the school nurse, but she still felt terrible and weak.
She had just closed her eyes for a second, she was feeling terrible about the Ball, she was supposed to Robin’s date for the evening but there was no way she could make and she had not been able to tell him where she was. Lucky for Dorian she had good friends, one being Julie Rosewood, who had gone with her to the hospital wing and she had offered to inform Robin of where she was. She opened her eyes slowly as Julie kissed her forehead, “It’s okay Julie, you go and have fun with Harry,” Dorian told her, trying to reassure her that she was all right. “Thanks so much for telling Robin for me. Tell him I’m real sorry and I’ll make it up to him when I’m better,” she said trying to force a smile. Julie gave her another squeeze before leaving for the ball.
Dorian closed her eyes again, she would try to get some rest, and she bet Robin would have a great time at the ball, even if it was on his own. Dorian opened her eyes when she heard a voice saying hello. “Robin?” Dorian said surprised to see him there and not at the ball, she tried to sit up but didn’t get very far. “Julie found you, that’s good. I’m really sorry Robin; we would have had so much fun.” Dorian felt badly, she could not help it, “What are you doing here?” she asked him, “Should you be at the ball? Not that I mind, but you should be having fun.” She looked at his costume, “Nice costume,” she told him.

"Thanks. I'm a pirate, that's a villain in muggle books. You know me; I had to be a bad guy. Ask Evan, she'll tell you I lent her Treasure Island which is a book all about pirates and a search for treasure and stuff." Robin took off his hook and placed on the table next to Dorian's bed. He then opened the bottle he had and the roses jumped out. He placed them in the vase which was also on the bedside table. "These were supposed to be a little surprise for you. I hope you like roses," he said. "Do you know that you look like an angel when you’re sleeping?" said Robin, who never passed up a chance to flirt with any girl. He liked flirting with Dorian especially – she always got so shy and flustered. He gave her one of his boyish mischievous grins and then sat down beside her. "I'm sorry I woke you up when I walked in," he said.
"OK, now you’re not supposed talk because you’re sick. You just try and rest and I'll sit with you for a short while then leave you. What am I doing here? Well, I just told you I couldn’t leave you, so I just had to come and check on you. Remember you owe me a whole night of dancing when you’re better though." Robin wondered what he could possibly do for Dorian now. "Is there anything in particular I could do for you? Maybe there's something I could read to you, I could get you a book tomorrow and read a bit if you like. Oh, and tell me if you want any of your friends to come visit you. I'll let them know," he suggested.
