Cass walked down into the common room. Her bare feet padded down the stairs. It was almost eerie at night. The Common Room, always so busy with activit during the day, was strange at night. She walked over to the water pitcher on the windowsill and poured her a drink. Hearing a noise behind her, she turned around suddenly. " Oh, Ringo." She picked up her bedraggled cat and nuzzled him.
The fire, beginning to fizzle out, looked very comforting. Cass walked over and stood in front of it. She felt the warmth. Lost in her reverie, she didn't hear the creaking noise coming from the steps behind her.

Lily awoke in the middle of the night. She tossed and turned a bit before she decided to get up and make herself some warm milk and go to the common room to sit by the fire. She put on her lavender housecoat and matching slippers, conjured a glass of warm milk, and went downstairs.
Once there, she found a girl already by the fire. Seeing as how she was shy around new people, especially older ones, as she could tell this girl was, she took a seat across from the girl in an armchair. Quietly, she said "Hi."

Cass jumped as the girl collapsed in the arm chair beside her. " Oh, sorry. You startled me." She sat down beside the girl, she continued to look into the fire.
" Couldn't sleep? I had a horrible nightmare and just couldn't settle back down. It was really kind of disturbing. Oh, I'm Cass by the way. I'm in the 3rd year." She took a sip of water from the glass she continued to hold.
She tucked her feet underneath her. " So, what's keeping you up at night?"

Lily thought a bit. "Well, I don't really know. I woke up suddenly, and I just can't fall back asleep. By the way, I'm Lily. A first year."

Cass smiled one of her frequent smiles. " I've been having really bad dreams lately. They wake me up too often. I'm surprised one of the teacher's haven't mentioned something about it."
She got up and poked the fire, hoping to keep it going for a little bit longer. " It's quite nice in front of the fire. So, how do you like here at Hogwarts? It was quite a shock my first year. It was a shock to find out I was a witch too."

Lily smiled. "I like it here. I enjoy learning new things about magic." Lily took a sip of her warm milk. "I have made so many new friends here it isn't even funny. One of them is heping me to find my older brother, who I have not sen in several years, but that one is a long story. What about you?"

Cass smiled at the warm conversation. " Oh, it's nice. Much better than going to a muggle school. It was a real shock, you know. Finding out I was a witch, but, hey life has a knack of throwing you curve balls."
Cass folder her legs up underneath her. " They only thing I don't like her is all the animosity between houses. I really hate it I can't to a person in this house because I'm in this house. It causes to many problems."
She smiled. " Since we are talking about us, I"m from Birmingham. Where do you hail from?"

Lily thought a moment before answering the girl, "I live in Wales with my father." The two stared at the fire for a bit longer. Lily was lost in her thoughts.
Soon, Lily's cat, Midnight, came padding down the stairs and crawled into Lily's lap, purring affectionately. "Hello, Midnight. Couldn't find me, huh?"

She jumped when the cat arrived. " Adorable cat. Ringo is a bit old, but I love him all the same. Is your mother gone? I just lost my father about a month ago. It was horrible watching him suffer in a hospital when I knew that I could take him to St. Mungo's and he would have been fine." A very sad look of exasperation crossed her face.
" But its fine. I guess we all lose are loved ones; sometimes, just earlier than we planned." She turned around and saw another arrival, Ringo. " Looks like he just woke up."
An old, bedraggled tabby cat jumped into her lap lazily. " I love him to death. I've had him since I was two."

Lily gave a weak smile. "Yes. She and my younger sister were killed when I was four. I also have an older brother, whom I haven't seen in seven years. I'm sorry to hear about your father."
Soon, another cat arrived. "Aww, he's so sweet." The two animals stared at each other.
Cass smiled. " I love him to death. I've had him since I was two." Lily nodded. "I got Midnight on my third birthday. My brother gave her to me."

Cass giggled. " Seems to me like we've got the two old foggie cats in the House. Every other girl seems to have a kitten. I'm also so sorry to hear about your Mom. I don't have any siblings. Only my cousin Craig, but he could be a brother to me. However, he seems to have been more engrossed into chasing tail than staing with family."
" Craig runs a Kendo studio in Birmingam. I like her so much better. I'm not much of a city person. How do you like Whales?"

"It was okay. I wasn't allowed out much. My father was very strict. I didn't have many friends until I got here, except my brother. He used to sneak me out of the house to do things every once in awhile when Father was at work."
Lily sighed as she remembered the time her brother snuck her out to play in the snow. It had been a year before he was disowned by her father. Her Mother and sister were still alive then.

" I wish I had cool siblings like that. Craig took me to the mall once, but that wasn't exciting. Oh, to have a deadly struggle for my life!" She smiled at her remark. Honestly, she didn't want that, but many of her dreams and hopes involved some sort of encounter like that.
" Oh, the thrill to do something exciting. The most exciting thing I have ever done is go into the Forbidden Forest. Of course, that wouldn't of happened if this feline hadn't of gotten loose." She kissed her cat on the head affectionately.

Lily giggled. "Well, I suppose pets certainly keep things exciting, huh? Midnight once got loose and ran through the Great Hall. You can bet McGonnagall liked that one. Not. Dumbledor was amused, though. So I didn't get into trouble for letting him run."

She laughed. " Really?! The Great Hall. That's so funny. Every time I do something wrong, she just gives me this really stern look. I hate it. It's worse than my mother's look." She mimicked the awful look that McGonogall gave every time her student's displeased her.
" I think the worst one was when I lost 130 house points in like 24 hours. I was caught in the forbidden forest, and then I got caught sneaking into Snape's classroom. It was terrible. Oh well, that's what I get for being friend's with Slytherins."
She shrugged her shoulders. " I'm pretty sure I'm the only Gryff with that problem. You know, Slytherin friends."

Lily shook her head. "I met this really nice Slytherin guy named Kris. He turned out to be the brother of my friend, Dana, who is helping me to find my brother. Kris is kind of quiet and moody, though. His voice is awesome. It reminded me of all the times my brother had sung me to sleep when I was little."
