The fire popped and crackled in the middle of the wall around six o’clock on Friday. The common room was quiet with few people remaining; most were out enjoying the remainder of their free time before they were forced back into the dorms until their weekend officially began. Sprawled out in front of the fire lay one girl though, with her long blond hair spread out around her and music floating through her brain. “Hear It Through The Grapevine” she was singing to herself; to any outsider she would look bored out of her mind, but in fact she wasn’t. Just the opposite in fact, she was comfortable and enjoying the peace for as long as it would last. Lenora loved excitement no doubt about that and couldn’t stand being bored… but right now she had a song in her head and a million thoughts buzzing through her brain; all of them incomprehensible.
Slowly people began to trickle into the common room. Lenora barely acknowledged it though and continued on with her song. She received a number of odd glances from people here and there but she barely noticed; she was used to it. Lenora did some crazy things sometimes, usually to get attention, and so she found nothing odd with it at all. It was amazing how Lenora craved attention most of the time, likely why she so enjoyed acting and dancing.

Melody pulled her hair up into her usual Friday after school bunches as the Fat Lady swung to let her through the portrait hole. She found them so much more convenient - they stayed out of the way. You didn't have to worry about them - they were just at either side of your head, and no one expected them to be neat. She sat down in a chair, but with no one to talk to, and it being a Friday afternoon, she was soon restless again. She wanted to go out, to roam the corridors. Maybe she would go to the library, see if she could find some sheet music by one of the famous wizard Baroque or Classical composers. That way she could find something a bit new to play. Of course, the library was always extra-strict with the return of sheet music, as they usually didn't have very many copies of it.
Instead, her attention was caught by someone singing a song she herself knew very well. She smiled, feeling that this would be an outlet for the extra energy she seemed to have gained. She had spent plenty of time outside, but hadn't managed to find anyone to share her excitement with at the dawn of Spring this time. She stood up very quickly, having to force herself to slow down as a wave of dizziness overtook her, due to her low blood pressure. It was soon gone though, and she made her way over to the girl who was singing, starting to sing along with her to the words she knew so well. "Don'tyer know I heard it through the grapevine... Not much longer would thar be mine... Baby I heard it through the grapevine... Ooh I'm just about to lo-ose my mind..." The two girls singing were now attracting glances from most people in the room, some of whom were looking at them irritably, others incredulously, probably thinking that they'd already lost their minds.

She just sang there for awhile when she heard a Yorkshire accent join hers. Lenora looked up at the girl and smiled, she was obviously younger than herself but had fabulous taste in music if she did say so herself. When their song ended Lenora sat up and smiled at the girl, “Lenora Byers, fourth year.” She said introducing herself and extending her hand. Realising that the other girl was standing though and couldn’t possibly reach her hand Lenora stood up and proffered her hand once more with a wide grin. ((sorry for the length I don't know what’s wrong with me ))

((Ee... yer know me, I couldn't care less if the sky were fallin' in, I'd still be singing, so length 'ain't no obstacle. ;D))
Melody smiled as the girl introduced herself as Lenora Byers and extended her hand. She gripped it tightly and showed her what a real Yorkshire handshake could be like, wondering as she did so why there was anyone else who knew that song. It was an oldie, that was for sure. "Pleasure," she said. "Meself, I'm Melody Bang-Bala, yer resident secon' year."
Melody took a seat, the rest of the Common Room now gone back to their conversations as usual. Melody grinned at Lenora, searching for something to say, not bubbling over with it as she sometimes found herself to be, probably because of the strange way in which the two had met. It was Melody's fault really, but she felt much better for having let some of her energy out. She used the arms of the chair to propel herself further into the chair, her rather slim body moving backwards so that her feet no longer touched the floor. She wasn't built like perhaps she would have liked to be, as she had seen other Yorkshire lasses - stocky, with plenty of strength. No, she was a weakling at the moment. But she had plenty of other Yorkshire character. She was proud of her background. "Ee..." she said, as she had nothing else to say, "any other songs yer like? Any songs fer the Friday evenin' blues yer get when yer got loads of homework over the weekend but don't wanna make a start on it?" She grinned at the fourth year as she said this, sure that the other Gryffindor would know what she was talking about.

The girl, who introduced herself as Melody, had a surprisingly firm grip; especially when compared to the slight squeeze Lenora always gave. Melody sat back and Lenora took a chair herself. Her legs draped over an arm Lenora relaxed facing Melody who asked what other songs Lenora knew for avoiding homework on a Friday evening. “Well I must say my favorite type of music is oldies; muggle oldies that is. My father had a passion for them, which he seems to have passed onto me. My two favorite songs would have to be ‘Tracks Of My Tears’ by Smokey Robinson And The Miracles and ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ from Procol Harum. Although when it comes to dancing or just relaxing, reading, classical is what I put on.
“How about you Melody? Anything particular been running through your brain this evening? Where did you learn such a song as ‘Heard It Through The Grapevine?’ anyways? Wouldn’t expect many around here to know it…” Lenora went on liking this girl immediately.
Looking around the common room Lenora noticed all had gone back to their former activities and she watched a first year boy climb in through the porthole. With a quick flick of her wand two steaming mugs appeared on the table nearest the pair. “Would you like some hot chocolate?” she asked while picking up the nearest cup and taking a sip. It was positively divine in her opinion, just enough chocolate to have flavor but not be sickeningly sweet, along with two large marshmallows melting into foam as she drank.

Melody smiled as the older girl related her favourite songs and offered her some hot chocolate. She took a sip, rather unwisely, before answering, the hot liquid burning her tongue. She grimaced and blew on it before taking another sip, this one not so scalding. "Ee... it's 'ot ain't it?" she said, not really as a question, but just because it was what she was thinking. She took another sip, and this time it tasted very good. "But nice too," she added, smiling at the girl opposite.
Melody had now compiled a huge long list of all the songs she would like to share with the older girl who seemed to have such great knowledge about music. Her eyes were lighting up as she thought about it and now she started to tell Lenora about it. "Me favourite by Smokey Robi'son'd probably 'ave ter be Tears o' a Clown," she stated, the tune coming to mind straight away, "though Maggie May by Rod Stewart, I'm partial ter tha' one too. 'Ouse o t'rising sun, I like tha' one as well. 'Ow bout yerself? Yer know any o those?" She remembered that Lenora had also asked her why she herself had knowledge of these all time greats, so she inclined her head and answered that one too. "An' yer should nae be surprised by me knowing 'em. They're t'best, are t'oldies. An' music is me life. Any type o' music, long as it's got a decent beat, is fer me." She grinned at the older girl. She was becoming excited and her voice was becoming louder, so that a few people were starting to look round again, in partial irritation at being disturbed, although Melody was oblivious to that in her happiness at having found someone else who seemed to really appreciate music.

Lenora was glad Melody seemed to enjoy the hot chocolate and went on about some other songs she enjoys. “All classics most definitely.” Lenora agreed with a smile. Then Melody went on to chastise her for not anticipating others would know the oldies. “Well… being in this world so fully you know it sometimes feels like nobody else has ever been to the muggle world. Sometimes I feel like the only kid in the world who grew up in both… And even those who do know the muggle world seem to only know the modern, mainstream stuff. Its rather nice to find a fellow oldies enthusiast.” Lenora said with a grin. “So Melody; why don’t you tell me something about yourself?” Lenora asked with a sparkle in her eye and a large happy smile spread across her face.
