She had survived her first full day of classes. She could hardly believe it. Of cousre it didn't go that badly. It was charms and magical creatures and those were two of her favorite subjects. Things might be different when she had to go to DADA and Potions.
It was after dinner and the common room was bustling with activity--the majortiy of students heading up here after dinner to socialize and at least pretend to do their homework.
She had managed to find a deserted corner in the back of the room, far from the light of the fire place. Here, as usual she was lost in the shadows. She hated the fact that she was too shy to join in the activity, but she tried to justify it to herself by attempting to do her charms homework. She had spread her blake robe out on the floor and sat on it, her partchement spread before her, with only her name sribbled across the top in a messy form of cersive writing. Now her attention was on a small long haired grey tiger cat who was playing with her quill.

Kiyla seeing Nokomis in the room instantly walked over to where she was. She sat down quietly next to the girl and began to take out her quill and parchment.
"What are you up to?" Kiyla said.

She looked over at Kiyla and smiled. They had met early that day, and their shy nature and lack of friends had formed an instant connection between them. Her gaze now on the other girl instead of her cat and homework.
"I was doing my charms homework"
She answered, looking down at her cat, sitting on top of her parchment, still trying to play with her quill
"And Pandora was helping"

"Aww your cat is so cute! I have one named -" But just as Kiyla was saying that her black cat with white paws jumped in her lap.
"Midnight." Kiyla said as she petted Midnight.
"Can i join you?"

Pandora was trying to get the full attention of her own by biting her finger instead of her quill. Nokomis leaned over and picked up the trouble-making-bundle-of-fur, and placed her in her lap, starting to pat her until the cats olive colored eyes closed and she started to pur
"Midnight is so pretty"
She commented as the other cat came to join them.
"And of course you can join me. Its not like I'm getting much done anyway"
She looked back down at her rather blank looking parchement--it wans't a long asignment. She was just never very good at starting papers

Kiyla smiled at Midnight and petted her some more.
"Pandora is pretty too." Kiyla said observing Pandora.
"Well, I see you haven't gotten to far ahead of me." Kiyla said gesturing towards nokomis's parchment.

Suddenly realizing that Kiyla was in her charms class she grinned slightly. She normally stayed by herself when she went to class, but if she had a friend there maybe it would be different. Of course charmed class this week she didn't sit alone. She had sat near Ivy, who was a girl she met on the train to Hogwarts....And Ivy was sitting next to....suddenly the lightbulb went off.
"You sat by Ivy in charms didn't you?"
She asked, though her voice almost making it more of a statement.
"I didn't reconize you until now!"
She wans't use to paying attention to people. Normally it wasnt until they spoke to her that they were comitted to her memory

Kiyla looked at Nokomis skeptically for a second as Nokomis tried to remember Kiyla. Kiyla sat there feeling weird as she petted Midnight making her purr as she relaxed. Kiyla was smiling down at Midnight when Nokomis said, "I didn't reconize you until now!" making Kiyla nearly jump out of her skin and making Midnight jump out of Kiyla's lap in suprise. Midnight started to hiss at Nokomis for scaring her, then jumped right back onto Kiyla's lap with her back to Nokomis. Kiyla looked from Midnight to Nokomis and burst out laughing.
"Well that introduction didn't go to well." Kiyla said in between laughs.

She started to laugh at the cats reaction as well. Her own had stood up and giving her an unhappy glance at the disruption of her patting and quiet attention.
Nokomis contiued to laugh, shaking her head at the two cats. She loved animals, especially her own cat. She guessed that Kiyla was about the same. Most people who had cats seemed to be like that
"How long have you had Midnight?"

"I got Midnight when i first came to Hogwarts. How long have you had Pandora?" Kiyla asked after her and Nokomis stopped laughing. Midnight looked up at Kiyla as if she knew that they were talkign about her. Kiyla gave Midnight a peck on the forehead making Midnight purr in happiness and lay back down.

She grinned at the answer that Kiyla gave, patting her own cat who also wished that the attention was focused around her.
"I got Pandora when I started Hogwwarts too"
She replied happily, glad that she could have something in common with my new friend.
"We have two cats at home, and my mum thought having one to bring to school with me would help me from getting home sick"
She had to smile a colr answer--for some reason she wasn't so shy with Kiyla.

Kiyla smiled and looked at Pandora. She was so cute.
"Hey maybe we should start our homework." Kiyla said remembering the whole reason she came over there. She enjoyed talking to Nokomis. She wasn't so cautious or shy around her.

She wrinkled her nose as she looked down at the blank parchemnt. Why was it that every minute seemed to make it look even bigger and harder to fill. She nodded in agreement though--there was no point in avoiding it any longer. It had to be done no matter how much trouble she had
"Yeah, your right. I always have a hard time getting started though"

Kiyla smiled and moved up so she could being to write on her parchment. Midnight jumped out of her lap and onto the table near Kiyla's quill and ink.
"Now don't you dare knock that over." Kiyla said sternly to Midnight who purred in response. Kiyla laughed and began to write her essay. She didn't really feel like doing this either but she knew she might as well get it done.

She leaned over to pick up her quill again, trying hard not to disturb Pandora who started to purr louder as if to make sure that her owner was still aware that she was still there.
She wrinkled her nose again as she wrote 'Wingardum Leviosa' on the page.
"How are you at charms? I hard a hard time, so I didn't see how you were doing"

"I'm better than i had expected." Kiyla said with a smile. She had done a pretty good job in Charms. She wrote down a few sentences and realized that this won;t be so hard at all. Kiyla smiled at Nokomis while patting Midnight on the head softly.

She smiled at the answer. She was very happy that Kyila was good at them, or at leat compared to how she thought she was going to do. It seemed to her that her new friend always underestimated her talents.
"Thats wonderful"
She replied, looking down at the last sentence she scribbled
"Well, at least I don't have to worry about not having enough tos ay when it comes to things I have to keep in mind"
She replied, giving a half smile as shes tarted another sentence. She always had trouble witht he swish-flick in charms

Kiyla, who had already written a few sentences in her essay smiled then remembered what happened in Ancient Runes. She groaned and cursed under her breathe. She wanted to kick herself but she didn't. Instead she accidently, insead of putting her quill in the ink, almost poked Midnight who quickly hissed and jumped and moved closer to you.
"Sorry Midnight!" Kiyla says realizing what she almost did. She picked up Midnight and hugged her not wanting to let go. THoughts about her father's letter quickly flooded her head. She wanted to cry and before she knew it tears were runnig down her cheeks onto Midnights furr. Midnight pulled away and looked at Kiyla curiously. She licked Kiyla's fingers as Kiyla petted her head trying t omake Kiyla feel better. Kiyla sniffled then realize that Nokomis was right there watching. Quickly Kiyla wiped away her tears and began writing again feeling defeated. This wasn't the first time Nokomis had seen her cry.

Hearing Midnight hiss she lookedup from her paper, and it seemed like only moments later that tear drops were rolling down her new friends cheek. She immediatly felt horrible, wondering what could have made Kyila cry so much. The first time they had met, she was crying as well.
"Kyila"
She finally said softly
"Is everything okay?"

Kiyla wanted to scream, she wanted to jump back into the lake, she wanted to cry. Tears were fillign her eyes but Kiyla fought them back. But the tears were fighting to hard. Kiyla wanted to run away. She looked and saw that if she wanted to could bolt upstairs to the dormitory. She looked longingly at the way to the dorms then looked back at Nokomis. She wanted to tell her new friend everything, but she didn't know her. She smiled a little at Nokomis ignoring her question and turned her attention back to her assignment with her tears staining the ink every once in a while.
Kiyla didn't mean to be rude towards Nokomis she just didn't want to talk about it. The only person who knew was Ivy and that's how Kiyla wanted it.
