Ivy sighed as she rolled over to turn off her light. Where was everyone? It was gone 10 'o clock, and still no one else had arrived to go to sleep. Ivy had been absolutely exhausted, because she had been practising Quidditch for much of the day, and working for most of the rest of it, so she had retired to bed early. Other people were still working downstairs in the Common Room. They had a lot of work at the moment. Ivy had been assured it only got worse.
She allowed her thoughts to drift, to other things, and inevitably they drifted to the usual subject. She frowned. They always did that. She turned on her light again with a flick of her wand, and took out her embroidery. It was a design Fanny had given to her, with an 'I' on it with ivy intertwined around it. Ivy pictured the little shop where she must have got it from, and smiled painfully as she thought of the empty home that was near there.
As she continued to sew with one particular shade of green, she started to hum softly, and sadly, and finally started to sing the words gently, as she blocked in more colour with thread:
"You were once my one companion,
you were all that mattered.
You were once a friend and father,
then my world was shattered.
Wishing you were somehow here again,
wishing you were somehow near.
Sometimes it seemed if I just dreamed,
somehow you would be here.
Wishing I could hear your voice again,
knowing that I never would.
Dreaming of you won't help me to do,
all that you dreamed I could!"
Ivy looked up sharply as someone entered, and stopped. She smiled as she saw Aila there, and set down her embroidery.
"Hey," Ivy said softly in greeting.
