Kelsey laid down her Violin and sighed. Her mind just wasn't up to it anymore that night. She need to relax. Kelsey never relaxed often. She stood, left her Violin on the bed, and walked out of her dormatory. She found the best chair in front of the fire and sat down, feeling tired. She gazed into the fire, wishing for a friend. Her friends had all left her. Amelia found Liam... Jordan has too much drama in her life, she doesn't need Kelsey's problems. As Kelsey gazed into the flames licking the logs inside the fireplace, she started to think of all the things wrong with her life. How her mother died of heroine and her father died of leukimia. She started to feel lonely of having no friends and no boyfriend... not even a crush.
Kelsey sighed and stared into the fire harder. She tried to push the negative thoughts aside but they never left. She thought about all her foster homes. She finally realized how all that rejection had got to her. She always held in her anger. She held inside... Just then a noise made Kelsey jump slightly. She wiped her sudden tears and looked up. Looking around the room she saw...

Katie set her quill down and looked over her piece of parchment. There was something missing, she knew that there was something just not right about it. She carefully scanned over every tiny detail of the drawing, but she just couldn’t place it. The beautiful chestnut gelding had the star on his forehead and the snip on his nose. He had his chocolate mane spilling lightly over his forehead. There had to be something missing though. ‘Shadow, why don’t you look right?’ Katie thought to herself.
She decided that she would take a walk and clear her mind. Then she would come back and look it over again. She placed her drawing inside the top drawer of her nightstand table and climbed out of her bed. She made it to the common room when she saw a girl staring into the fire. She couldn’t tell who it was from behind, but she wanted to find out. Katie stared at her intently, trying to figure out who exactly she was when her right knee came into contact with a table making a loud “smack!”<br> “Ah, crap!” Katie hissed holding her knee, the girl had turned around at the sound and she recognized her to be someone from Katie’s year, Kelsey Maddison. “Hi Kelsey, I hope I’m not interrupting anything?” Katie hopped over to the couch in front of the fire and sat down propping her leg up. Her knee was burning like mad.

Kelsey felt relief flood over her. She knew Katie. She smiled and looked back into the fire as Katie asked her if she had interupted anything. She laughed slightly and shook her head. The flames seemed to get bigger, but only slightly. She sighed and looked up at Katie.
"No you didn't," she hated how sad her voice sounded. She laid her head back and stared up at the ceiling, yawning widly.
"I wasn't really doing anything," she sighed thinking of her Violin, "My mind is getting stubborn... somehow it thinks I'm overworking her..." she smiled and looked back at Katie hoping she would get that last hint of a joke at the end of her sentence. She then yawned again and felt too sleepy to be down here. She should be up in bed. But she shook her head to rid the sleepiness from it and widened her eyes for a moment, trying to stay awake.

Katie frowned slightly and cocked her head. Kelsey seemed distant from her, as if she were upset or something. She kept staring off into the flames of the fire and Katie could have sworn that there were tears in Kelsey’s eyes whenever she first turned around. She wasn’t sure if she should ask about it or just leave it at Kelsey’s discretion as to whether she wanted to talk about it or not. She tucked a strand of hair behind her hair and contemplated the two choices.
“So, Kelsey, how is everything going?” Katie asked, settling for an in between. That way, if Kelsey wanted to tell her about it she would and if she didn’t then she didn’t have to. She hoped Kelsey would tell her what was wrong. She wanted to help her. To be a good friend.

Kelsey wondered if she should tell Katie about her on going depression. If she should just spill. But her whole body seemed to scream no! Kelsey sighed and faked a smile.
"Everythings, um... fine," she tried to hide the saddness in her voice. She avoided Katie's eyes and stared into the fire yet again. She gripped her knees and tried not to cry. She wanted to tell Katie everything... but it was too risky that she wouldn't understand.

Katie raised up her left eyebrow as she looked at Kelsey questioningly. She could easily decipher that fake smile and the avoiding eyes. Besides that, Kelsey looked as if she were about to cry. "Kelsey," Katie said softly, "You don't look fine. I know there is something wrong. I'm only going to ask you one more time. If you really don't want to talk about it, then that's fine. We'll just forget this ever happened. But I want you to know that I care, even though we don't know each other to well, if you want to talk about it I'm here to listen. And you shouldn't worry about me telling anyone anything. I know how to keep a secret." She added with a smile, "I pinky promise."
Katie looked Kelsey in the eye and said, "Kelsey, what's going on?" She then waited to see if Kelsey would choose to confide in her. It could possibly be a breakthrough in what might become a great friendship.
