It was a very cold day. So cold that the lake was frozen 2 inches thick. Down in the dungeons the cold air seeped through the stone. The Slytherin common room was cold but by the fire it was nice and warm. Up in the boys dormatory Cedric Wood was looking through the mail he had gotten today. In the pile on his bed was Quidditch Weekly, Quidditch International, and a letter from his dad. Cedric grabbed the letter and the magazine and made his way down the stairs into the common room. There weren't that many people in there and the few that were had on heavy clothes for the cold. Cedric sat down on a couch next to the fire and opened the letter and began reading it.
Dear Cedric, How are you son? Everything is going good here. Your mother is still on her fit about it being winter and you being cold in the school. The reason I sent you this letter is about your quidditch carrer. My freind in with the Foulmouth Falcons sent me a letter and the brouchoure that is in your envolope. It's about a amature training camp and team for the Falcons. He said it would be Just one step down from being on the team. He said if you did this you would be a shoe in when you graduate. He said you are a year to young for the team but he would pull some strings at tryouts so you beter do well. So look at the brouchoure and keep warm. Love Dad.
Cedric turned the envolope upside down and out fell a thick pamphlet. On the front it read "Amature Falcons Team". Cedric was happy to be able to do this but he knew that even without this he would have a chance at making the team when he graduated. Cedrics father had a freind that was in with the couch and manager of the Falcons and he said that as long as Cedric played the way he does now he will be on the team. Cedric had been playing quidditch since he was 3 and was a superb keeper. He is on the house team but got beat out for the starting spot by an upperclassmen. While Cedric sat there thinking he heard the door open and close and he looked up to see who it was.

Mary walked down the stairs beside the Great Hall. She swung her book bag from side to side listening to her heels click on each step; it was therapeutic. “Salazar” she said to the suit of armour that allowed her into the common room. She shivered as she entered the drafty room. It was oddly quiet in there considering it was about a quarter filled up. Mary did not care who else was in there though; she just needed to get to the fire. Mary tossed her bag on a couch near the warming flames and sat next to the books that spilled out. Ignoring her things that were taking up the majority of the couch she crossed her legs and glanced around. There was a boy sitting in a seat nearby her who seemed to be looking at a pamphlet thing. She watched the Quidditch players zoom across the page until one scored and she realised how long she must have been staring.
She then looked up at the boy and decided she was in the mood to chat, she didn’t feel like doing anything else anyways. Although she barely ever found it too anything to read it was to cold down in the dungeons this evening. Mary shivered and pulled her cloak tighter around herself at the very thought of picking up a book. “Hello” she said apathetically. “I’m Mary Evans; and you are?” She asked in a very Slytherin like bored voice. Mary seldom acted like the cliché Slytherin but when she was with her fellow serpents she couldn’t seem to help it often; especially not in this atmosphere.

Cedric watched as the girl went and sat down. He didn't stare at her but looked over enough to know she was staring at him. Just when he was about to ask her if she needed anything she she started talking. Cedric looked above his pamphlet and raised one eyebrow. "Im Cedric Wood." Cedric said coldly. Who doesn't know me? Cedric thought to himself. Cedric looked at the girl up and down trying to figure out what her deal was. "Well Mary what year are you?" Cedric asked setting his pmphlet on his lap.
As Cedric waited for her reply he felt it start to get colder. With a flick of his wand he threw another log on the fire. Cedric looked back at Mary and said "How come I havent seen you around here?" Cedric knew he had probably cut her off but he didn't care. Cedric looked blankly at Mary waiting for her reply.

The boy introduced himself as Cedric Wood as if that was supposed to mean something to her. ‘Everybody in Slytherin seems to think they are infamous’ she thought rolling her eyes. He asked what year she was in before throwing another log onto the fire. “Third” she said plainly running her fingers through her strawberry blond hair. She suddenly felt the temperature rise due to the extra log and eased her posture slightly not holding herself closed to hold in the warmth anymore.
As he turned back to her he asked why he had not seen her around before. “Well” she said “perhaps you have been walking around with you eyes closed. Or maybe, just maybe, our paths have never crossed.” She said in the same apathetic tone. “We most likely have simply not noticed each other through the years though. This is a big school you know, and there are a lot of us down in the dungeons. Considering we are quite obviously not in the same year we most likely never saw fit to speak before.” She said in a more normal voice; tiring quickly of the little game Slytherins play of ‘who can be more bored of whom’.
She then collected her books and things and placed them back into her bag, which she transferred off the couch onto the floor. With the room slightly warmer and her things out of the way Mary stretched out slightly, tucking her legs in underneath her and resting her head over the top of the couch. She then lifted her head once again and looked at him awaiting a response to her suggestions.

Cedric watched and listened to Mary. "Third year huh." Cedric said looking at her. When she started talking about him walkig around with his eyes closed Cedric said "Well a man who walks round with his eyes closed stubs his toes alot. And since my toes feel fine I would think it is safe to say we haven't crossed paths." Cedric smiled at her with a smirk and the looked back down at his pamphlet. He watched as she sat down with her legs under her. Then it hit him. He had seen her before. "Your play quidditch dont you." Cedric said looking up at her. "I knew I had seen you before. I play to. I had alot going on this year so Im backup keeper. Im by far good enough to start I just have missed alot of practices." Cedric moved around in his chair and then looked at her. "So how long have you been playing?" Cedric asked.
((OOC: sorry if it's so short. After 1 I loose all my thinking ability.))

((Its fine it seems we are in the same time zone according to your music post so I totally understand you do realise you posted our password in the student lounge right?)) Mary smirked at his comment about stubbed toes and uncrossed paths. She did have many people in the school she had yet to meet; but she was certainly not going to go looking for them. He mentioned Quidditch and informed her that he knew she played. “Yes I just started this year actually. My mother never liked the game saying it is ‘not a proper pastime for a lady’ ergo this year when I got back to school I tried out for beater. Seeing as it is my first year playing and I am so much younger than the rest of the team I am a reserve as well. Beater is my favourite position though, just something about whacking the ball with all my force. Its quite relaxing and fulfilling sometimes if that makes sense.” She said instantly at ease with this boy.

((OOC: YEah I live in Maryland. U?))
Cedric smiled as Mary talked. "Yeah I didn't think you were on the team last year." he said looking at her. As she went one Cedric listened becoming more relaxed to the stranger. "Yeah I guess some people could see it as not being good for a girl." Cedric said frowning. "I don't think there's anything wrong with it." Cedric leaned back in his chair and listened to her. "Ahh beater. Im not even going to lie to you Im not man enough to play that. I'd be scared to death. I just stay between the poles." Cedric said smiling. "I don't know why I love it so much. I gues just being in the air. And then knowing it's just me and the chaser and knowing they can't touch me." Cedric looked down at the pamphlet. "This is about an amature team Im trying out for. Once I graduate Im prety sure once I graduate I will play for the Foulmouth Falcons. That is unless I get a contract from bulgaria or Ireland." Cedric laughed and looked into the fire. "What do you plan on doing after school?"

((OOC: Suburbia outside Toronto but don’t forget to get our password out of the lounge eh ) Mary rested her head on the back of the couch once again and closed her eyes as Cedric spoke about Quidditch. She giggled as he said he was not man enough to play beater, oddly enough she had found that to be a quite common reaction though she wasn’t sure why. “See I wouldn’t want to play keeper because as you said it’s just you and the chasers when they come round, and then its always bad news. I like beater, right in the action ready to do what needs to be done to win. Although I suppose that is just something in my personality, I like to be there and cause some action, rather than prevent it.” He then told her about the pamphlet of his she had been staring at. “Quidditch as a career sounds neat. Then I will get to go to games and say ‘ya I meet him once, horrible guy but great player’” Mary said to him with a flirtatious grin letting him know she’s just teasing. Mary stared up at the ceiling for a minute before answering his question about what she was going to do with her life. “To tell you the truth; I have no idea. I have always been told I am going to marry and have pureblood babies. That is not all I want from life I know; but… Oh I don’t know. I’ll just leave it at that. No reason to drag you, a perfect stranger, into all this. So my answer is, I’m really not sure.”<br>

Phoebe walked out of the Great Hall and headed towards the Slytherin Common Room. Phoebe realized that she never really spent much time there, not that it mattered to her or not, but it was true. She wondered who would be there now?
Phoebe said the passward and walked in and smirked. She saw Mary Evans talking to a boy. She remembered Mary from a day in Diagon Alley they had spent together with a Ravenclaw, Jasmine.
Phoebe quietly strode over to where Mary was sitting, which was close to the fire. Phoebe didn't mind the winter monthes but it was extra cold today and Phoebe really wanted to be by the fire.
Phoebe sat down and looked at Mary and the older boy.
"Hello, I wouldn't be interrupting anything would I?" She asked them with a raised eyebrow, not really caring if she was or not.

Jersey stood mesmorized in the girl's dormintory. She stared deeply at her reflection in a compact that had belonged to her mother. Jersey and her sister had fought for hours on end for it, for each thought that it had something rather remarkable about it. In the battle her sister had won. However, being cold hearted and selfish, Jersey stole it from her, leading her sister teary eyed and crushed as she had believed that she had mistakely misplaced it. Looking into the mirror Jersey admired her beauty. Her gorgeous green eyes sparkled as she took her right hand and slowly moved it underneath of her eye, feeling her soft skin that she had always loved. Closing her eyes and opening them again she moved the mirror farther away as to get a full look of her face. Tilting her head slightly to the right she gave her reflection a beautiful smile, that turned into a death glare. Closing the mirror with a quick snap, she placed it into the pocket of her cloak. Tossing her hair that had layed ever so nicely on her shoulders, she began to walk with her head stuck high in the air.
Feeling powerful, Jersey walked out of the dormintory and into the common room with her arms crossed and an evil glare overtaking her face. Taking a quick glance around the common room, she noticed her friend Mary along with a few other kids, that she had been unable to make out their faces, sitting by the fire. Turning her body in the direction of the fire place she began to walk, with the sound of her footsteps echoing loudly throughout the room. Nearing them, she noticed that neither the boy or the girl looked familar, which wasn't unsual for Jersey, because she had never been too good with faces, unless she had had a conversation with them before.
With her arms still crossed she reached them, with the glare still on, and her head still up high. "Hello Mary." Jersey said plainly. Jersey gave the fire a quick glare and felt the warmth flow nicely through her bones. "How are you today?" Jersey said starting to warm up, and cracking a smile towards her. Glancing at the other 2 kids Jersey introduced with a snobby look that she had recently been giving to the ones she had not known. "I'm Jersey Scott." she said, as she stood impatient, and tapping her foot loudly.

Cedric sat and listened to Mary talk about playing keeper. "It's not that bad. You just need good reflexes." When Mary started talking about not knowing what she wanted to be when she grew up. "Im sure you will find something you want to do." Then out of no where a girl walked up and started talking to Mary. "No you wouldn't be intreupting." Cedric said. "Im Cedric Wood. I don't believe we have met." he said to the stranger. Cedric looked back down at the fire and then when he looked up another person had joined them.
When she introduced herself Cedric could hear the snobby tone in her voice. "Im Cedric Wood." Cedric said in a tone as if she should already know who he is. "Are you tapping to a beat in your head or is there a bug ont he floor you don't like?" Cedric said being smart about her tapping her foot. All slytherins were like that, thought they were the center of the earth. Even him.

Jersey's foot continued it's tapping as the boy introduced himself as Cedric Wood. Jersey forceably cracked a tiny smile to the boy and locked eyes with him, showing she wasn't hundred percent evil. It didn't take long before the boy showed Jersey his smart allick, Slytherian side, as he commented on Jersey's tapping of the foot. Taking her eyes immediately off of the boy, she turned her head, and made her response. "Neither you silly boy." she started to say as she whipped her head back in his direction. "It's a habit I have, for showing my lack of patience when it comes to this introduction stuff, that I hate dearly." Jersey said snapping sharply to the boy. Brushing her hair back with a sigh, she spoke yet again. "However, I want to make friends just as much as the next person." Jersey said giving the boy a little bit more of a smile.
Turning away she went quickly to pull up a chair. She smiled as the chair made a loud echo as she dragged it towards the group. "Sorry for that." Jersey said not sounding sorry at all, as she plunged into the chair, spreading her legs out far and making herself quite at home.

Cedric had just finished telling her that she will most likely figure out what she want to do later when Phoebe, a girl Mary had barely gotten to know once before, interrupted their privet conversation. She asked if she was interrupting anything as she sat down making it clear she did not care either way. Cedric said she was not and Mary added, “Nothing that can not be continued with you presence at least Phoebe.” Mary then sat up properly not feeling like throwing her head back any longer for some reason.
Moment later Jersey appeared and Mary smiled at her. “Hey Jers. I am colder than an ice cube. Yourself?” Mary answered Jersey’s question on how she was. Mary listened as Cedric and Jersey bickered; Jersey was a lovely person but that did not always shine through at first introduction. As Jersey sat down Mary decided to conversation needed a change in topic. “So Cedric, how was your break?” she asked.

Cedric listened to Jersey as she talked. "Oh well it seems you should get a little more patients. It is a virtue after all." Cedric said smiling. Then Mary started talking to him. "Oh my break was just great. " Cedric said smiling. "I played some quidditch and slept alot." Cedric looked back at Jersey and said "Oh and you are quite excused for the chair." Cedric laughed and said "So how was your break Mary?"

Cedric chastised Jersey for her impatience and simply rolled her eyes. He then gave them the gist of how his break went and inquired about hers. “It was just great.” Mary answered. “Jersey and I went to Weinig Zug; that’s where we meet actually. It was just beautiful and there was so much to do. Only went skiing once because I absolutely detest the cold. Went skating on Christmas though, the parade was lovely. The castle was beautiful too. It was huge you could explore this thing forever and still not find all its secrets, like Hogwarts. Plus the village was so cute. Jersey and I went shopping and I got all these cute shoes. All in all it was the best break I can remember in a long time.”

Phoebe rolled her eyes at Marys comment then turned to Cedric and smirked a sort of friendly smirk.
"I'm Phoebe Xiong, and we haven't met Cedric." She said to him. She looked up at Jersey and said, "hello, Jersey..."
Phoebe sat quietly listening to the conversation going on around her. She wondered why Mary seemed to dislike her so much, and Phoebe actually kind of cared why.
