Maddie walked out of class and headed straight for the common room. She said "Salazar" and walked inside. She noticed that it was really crowed, so she decided to go up to the third year girls' dorm. That, however, was practically empty, so Maddie decided to stay.
She plopped down on her bed, took out a peice of parchment and a quill, and began writing her Potions essay. She was happy that all she had to do for tonight was Potions, because Potions comes easy to her. "This shoudn't take long..." she muttered to herself, before getting to work.

"Greengrass. Move already. I need to get up to my dorm!" Mack had her arms crossed over her chest, staring up at the older Slytherin girl. Daphne Greengrass was a Sixth year Slytherin and at the moment, Mack wasn't in the mood to argue with one. But, the girl with red hair stayed in the middle of the staircase, smiling evilly down at the small Holden. Mack rolled her eyes and tilted her head impatiently, "watch out Holden." Greengrass said before she stepped off the step and pushed past Mack. It wasn't a warning for the shove, it was a warning for anything. She meant, that Mack to watch her back.
Mack was used to the threats by now, and at the moment she could really throw some back, but she restrained herself and continued up towards the dormitories. She reached her door and pushed it open, half expecting it to be as crowded as the common room was - soon found out how mistaken she was. There was only one person in there, and remarkably Mack had never met this girl, although they shared a dorm room.
She put her bag on her four poster and walked over to the vanity which took up a corner of the room. She pulled a brush through her hair and then applied chapstick to her lips, which were starting to bleed because of how chapped they were. She could just use magic to heal them, but she didn't want to. She wanted nature to take it's toll on her lips and to make them better on it's own. When she was finished freshing up, she turned around and looked at the girl who was studying, wondering to bother her or not. Finally, Mack spoke up; "Whatcha doing?" She asked, her voice slightly interested.

Maddie was remarkably, having a hard time writing the essay. It had to be a five-pager and she only two so far, and she was already out of ideas! She needed something, a book or anything. She looked in her bag and noticed that her Potions book wasn't in there. "Crap!" she whispered to herself. "I must have left it in class." She was just deciding weather to go get it or not, when a girl walked in.
She looked up at the girl, but didn't say anything, just went back to thinking of ideas. The girl fixed herself up, and then knocked Maddie out of her thoughts, that was actually more like a day dream, and asked what she was doing. 'Guess I'll get it later...' she thought to herself.
Maddie looked up at the girl. "Oh, I'm writing my Potions essay." She paused and looked back down at her paper, and then looked back up at the girl. "I'm Maddie." she said, holding out her hand. "Well, actually, Madison, Madison Kenacheak."

Mack shook the girl's hand and tried to smile, but it came out as more of a grimace. Mack wasn't good with meeting new people. Well, new girls anyway, she had a fine time making friends with boys, "Mackenzie Holden. I like Mack though, it's easier to say." She returned the introduction with a slight smile, then took her hand back. Turning the rings around her fingers, the way she normally did when she had an awkward feeling in her stomach.
"Something wrong? You look - upset or just frustrated." Mack inquired and sat down on the bed next to Maddie, wondering if this could be a future friendship or just a passing conversation. There seemed to be a lot of those now. She would pass someone in the hall, say hello, and converse for about 10 minutes then leave and never speak again.

Maddie laughed slightly when the girl tried to smile, but came out all wrong. "It's ok." she said. "A lot of people have trouble meeting people." she said, still laughing slightly.
The girl then asked what was troubling Maddie. "Oh," she replied. "Ya know that Potions essay due tomorrow? Yeah, well, I'm kinda having trouble with it. I mean, Potions has always just came easy to me, and I could do my homework in like ten minutes. But, I kinda left my book in class, and I'm already out of idea..." she trailed off.
"Do you have your book with you?" she asked suddenly.

Mack smiled. Potions was something mack was extremely good at. Mack walked over to her bag and pulled out five rolls of parchment, and her potions book. She plopped down on the bed next to Maddie and handed over her Potions book, "I always have it. Potions is my best class, though, lately I've been slipping in it." Mack told her with an aggravated sigh. She tucked her hair behind her ear and unrolled her parchment, "If you want you can read mine, and maybe you'll get some ideas."

Mack told her that she had her book and Maddie was extremely greatful, 'cause she really needed one at the moment. She was also glad to hear that she was good, and liked Potions too. Mack plopped down on the bed next to Maddie and took out her own essay.
She then offered that Maddie look at hers to get ideas. It was nice, 'cause she did need help, but she wasn't sure if she should look at it. "No offense," Maddie started. "But isn't that like, cheating?"

Mack shook her head, "As long as you don't copy it word for word. Going through it and looking at it, and seeing what springs to mind isn't exactly cheating." Mack told her and smiled genuinly. She flipped through her essay and shrugged before handing it to maddie.

Maddie took the peices of paper and flipped through them as well, skimming the papers one by one. "Wow," she said. "This is pretty good." she said once again, as she started fully reading it.
Instantly ideas came to mind, and she started writing. Suddenly, something hit her. "If your essay is so good, how come you're slipping in Potions?" she asked.

Mack lowered her head, "A lot of stuff has gone on with a lot of people. Fights breaking out. Rumors causing me to stress. Family related stuff. It's all so much that I tend to not pay attention in class. Bookwork like this, is fine. I can do it. But, the actual doing things and taking notes in Potions, is hard. I actually havne't been showing up that much either." She told Maddie in a quiet tone of voice. She was actually surprised this girl hadn't heard about what Mack was going through. It seemed the whole school was tlaking about her at one point or another.

Maddie, even though she hardly ever felt this way, actually, felt sorry for the girl. "Actually," Maddie started with a slight, sad smile. "Now that I think about it, I have heard a few rumors about you. I didn't really pay attention to who they were about, but I did hear pretty nasty ones though."
She understood what Mack was saying, and could cope with it very easily. "Umm... I don't wanna sound pesky or anything but... what exactly happened?"
