Terra woke up with a start, her face shining with cold sweat. She sat up in bed, putting her head in her hands. feeling her clammy skin. Her pale complexion gleamed in the moonlight that was coming through Terra's bedroom window. The leaves in the nearby tree were rustling in the light wind that swept the outdoors. She shook her head and pulled the covers around her to make her feel safer in her surroundings. The nightmare she had just had was horribly terrifying. It had been about the growing threat of You-Know-Who and his followers. Terra shivered at the mere thought of them, although it was quite a warm morning. She got up quietly, trying not to disturb her five brothers that were sleeping in the house at the moment. The two oldest, Dan and Mark, were already married and out of the house. They were going to be coming over later today for the family reunion that was going to take place at her house. Her house was a normal two-story house with a kitchen, dining room, bathroom, family room and her parent's bedroom on the bottom floor and on the top floor there were eight bedrooms and one bathroom. The strange thing about the bedrooms is the one closest to the stairs held the oldest child and the one farthest from the flight of stairs held the youngest child, which would be Terra. Dan was the oldest; then Mark; Sam; James; John; Robert and then Steven, who was the youngest boy. Dan was in the old age of thirty and already had a wife. Mark was twenty-six and was going to get married in five days. Terra smiled as she passed her brothers' bedrooms; their snores filtering through the door. Entering the bathroom on the other side of the hall, Terra shut the door and turned on the light. Her eyes blinked a few times to get use to the sudden light and even then she had to squint to see her surroundings. Her face was white and her brown eyes seemed to be like holes in her face. Her red hair was in a tangle. Sighing at her atrocious appearance, Terra slid down onto the floor, her eyes closed. The nightmare was still fresh in her mind; how could she get this scared? Terra shook her head. Nothing was going to happen. Everything was normal, as usual. The family reunion was held every four years, but this one would be different. Terra would know that her mom had been a witch and her parents had been magical folks too. Terra managed a grin as she thought about how put out her brothers would be when she would talk to her grand-parents about Hogwarts. Keeping her eyes shut, Terra fell asleep in a matter of minutes.
"What the hell?! Terra, what are you doing?" screeched James as he opened the door of the bathroom only to find Terra on the floor, fast asleep. Terra stirred and opened her eyes to find a very disgruntled James looking down at her. At the age of twenty, James was very good looking; his jet black hair in a mess from sleep and his bright blue eyes shinning uncharacteristically bright. He was the trickster of the family and thanks to him, Terra's hair had turned blue for five days straight when she was seven. Grinning at her muggle brother, she grabbed the sink and pulled herself up. James was much taller than her; the top of her head reached up to his chest. He grinned down at her and ruffled her red hair before pushing her out of the bathroom and closing the door behind her. Terra walked back into her bedroom to take a shower and change before the day became any later. She knew that she must have slept in for a good three hours; it was now eight in the morning. Terra took a cold shower to wake her up and then put on a purple blouse with a plaid skirt. Looking at herself carefully in the mirror, Terra added some makeup to make her face more lively and then bounded out the door and down the stairs. She halted in front of the huge dining table, where the family was starting to breakfast. Sitting down in her chair next to Steven and her father, Terra pulled an orange that was close to her and began to peel it. It was amazing how Terra's family acted; her mother was the only witch in the family, everyone else was muggles except for Terra. Her father, who was graying grabbed the bowl of grapes and started devouring them like a hungry wolf. John and Rob (Rob is Robert's nickname) snickered at this behind their hands. Terra rolled her eyes at them, grinning all the while. John and Steven played baseball every summer. John was eighteen and Rob was seventeen. They were both in the same league and they won almost every game they went to. Steven, who was the second youngest and the quietest was eating cereal. Steven would always tell stories that the whole family loved and enjoyed; he was sixteen. James was now sitting across from Terra and he waved at her, causing his orange juice to spill on Terra's mom's hand. She shrieked in displeasure, causing Sam, the twenty-five year old, to fall off of his seat. The whole family roared with laughter while John helped a red-faced Sam up. Sam was looking for a home somewhere in Scotland at the moment. Sam got back into his chair and looked at no one for the rest of breakfast. Terra's father cleared his throat loudly to get there attention and then looked around at each of them in turn. He was very strict but at times he would join in on the fun of the day. Today, he looked like he needed to go back to bed.
"I understand that everyone knows how to behave during this family reunion?" the whole table nodded their heads. "Good. James, I will be watching you especially. Our house is going to be packed with many relatives and I expect them to be at home here while they stay. Dan and Mark will be coming later with Lindsay and Freda. We will have a good hundred people here, you understand? Our family is a big one and they have all been able to come, with the exception of the twins-" James snapped his fingers angrily; the twins were his favorite relatives. They were his partners in crime. "-who are sick." Jerry Carlson continued. Their parents had to stay home with the two. I want you to look your best and behave yourselves. This house needs cleaning and to be decorated. The guests arrive at one. Off you go." He waved his hand to dismiss them, and there was a large amount of scraping chairs and everyone left the table, except for Jennifer, Terra's mom. She stayed behind and started conversing with Jerry about something. Terra flounced off to her bedroom but was stopped half-way by James.
"Hey, sis', want to be my partner in crime today? Since the twins are gone, you're my second pick." James grabbed Terra and put her in a head-lock playfully. Terra squirmed until he let go and then stood up straight and raised her eyebrow at James.
"Sure, I don't see why not." she replied with a fresh grin.
"That's my girl!" James roared and he walked off to his bedroom with an air of pride. Terra shook her head at his retreating back before turning and walking back toward her bedroom. This time, Steven poked his head out of his door to speak to Terra.
"Hey, Terra. Don't you think Dad's going a bit hard on us? I mean, decorations and cleaning all in four hours?"
"No, I don't think so, Steve. There is eight of us, remember? We can get it done in three hours." Terra said confidently. Steven nodded but still looked doubtful and disappeared behind his door. Terra finally reached her bedroom and, once inside, lay down on her bed. Today was going to be a very long day. She had to do some pranks with James and hang out with her favorite relatives and pay attention to her other relatives, but first she had to decorate the house after cleaning it. Yes, today is going to be a very long day.
