Feeling that she needed a break from O.W.L.s and school on the whole Dana had used the opportunity to leave the castle. The weather had turned warm and so Dana was now driving down a highway with music blasting in the car. With the top of the car lowered Dana enjoyed the sensation of wind pulling at her hair and felt as tension slowly started to pour out of her. A break seemed to be just what she needed. Seeing a sign-post pointing left and telling about a spring-fair Dana turned on the road leading there impulsively. Faires were always fun. It didn’t take very long for Dana to hear music and her voices laughing and merry-go-rounds and everything else that accompanied a fair including the smell of sweets.
Stopping the car Dana excited and wandered around a bit, enjoying an ice-cream and laughing at the sights. A lot of people were starting to change into costumes as well so when Dana saw a sign where costumes could be bought or rented, she made her way over. A nice older Irish couple were working with the costumes and in now time Dana discovered she had decided to buy the costume and right now Tam – the man – was making her a facial painting and the lady working with her hair. In no time Dana felt their melodical voices and rather good skills lulling her into a sleep.
When Dana woke an hour later she had a brown and green forest-nymph costume waiting next to her. Slipping into the costume Dana grinned. Her hair were pulled up and her forehead was covered with drawn leaves and her right cheek with linear pattern with small blooms and leaves braided into her hair as well. Dana didn’t have any idea how the leaves stuck there as except raising her hair away from her face her hair well onto her back completely freely. The effect looked neat, so Dana dind’t complain however. That and the short skirt reaching Dana’s mid-thighs, a figure-hugging blouse with vines and leaves sewn on the half-dress Dana really did receive a somewhat of a mystical aura as well. And the candles lighted over the fair and the music only added to the whole mediaeval effect. Pulling on brown shoes with upturned tips Dana couldn’t suppress as giggle as she hit her wand into the costume – not an easy task really – and paid her bill. It seemed to be the beginning of an interesting evening.
Venturing out of the tent Dana grinned seeing that at least half of the people there were dressed in costumes. Even though most were knights or princess or just mediaeval ladies. More original costumes like Dana’s appeared to be much rarer. Just then Dana saw a familiar head and switching directions moved straight towards Cass. It appeared as if she didn’t really recognize Dana in this outfit, as she stared right past her most of the time even though Dana waved. Stopping next to Cass Dana pulled a strand of her hair playfully: “Where’s your fair-spirit? Why aren’t you wearing a costume?”
Cass, Meloeny, and Meghan reached the fair in record time. They were really anxious to get to the festival, but Cass was reallly just along for the ride. She had used to get into this sort of thing, but since going to Hogwarts it didn't bring much thrill. Getting out of the car, which Meghan's father was driving, she straightened her shirt. The three girls headed onto the fair grounds. Surprised that so many people had dressed up, she became a little downtrodden. Normally, she would make a costume, and Meghan and Meloeny's, and joined into the fun. She used to love making Renaissance dressed because they were so intricate, so hard to create. However, since she had gone to Hogwarts, she hadn't had much time to make any dresses this year. She had only made the one House of Worth dress, which was French Renaissance, and it was still on the dress dummy at the castle. Finished, but still on the dress dummy.
Meghan and Meloney had dressed up. They were both wearing pretty pastel dresses that reached the ground. They both had rings of flowers on their head. Following behind them, they mentioned something about entering the costume contest. They both hurried off, leaving Cass there. Cass sighed as she felt a tug on her hair. Turning around, she saw Dana. A look of surprise crossed her face. " Dana! Fancy seeing you here. Like your outfit. However, I didn't get a chance to dress up. I was visiting friends and they brought me. Thought it would be like old times I guess. However, I'm here without a costume. You remember that House of Worth dress I was creating, I so wished I had it now? However, it's back on the dress dummy at the castle. This would of been perfect to wear to."

“I decided I need a break form the school so I walked to Hogsmeade, flooed to Diagon Alley and rented a car from the muggle London. I saw the sin pointing towards the fair completely by accident,” Dana explained smiling at Cass cheerily, even though the younger girl seemed a little down for not wearing a costume, “And thanks. I like it as well. You know I never can settle for the usual dresses – but the nymph costume is great. Surprisingly comfortable as well.”
Taking Cass’s had Dana moved back towards where she had came from: “You can buy or rent a costume from Tam. I did – he did the face painting for me and his way the hair. You can choose something from there. I want to visit the Archery competition later. And I want to see the ‘Bone-ride’ that is supposed the main event of the show later. Are you in a hurry? Or do you need a lift after-wards? I think I’ll head to our apartment in muggle-London when this thing here starts getting on my nerves finally.”
As the reached the tent Dana smiled at Tam who appeared form inside the tent as well: “Could we rent a costume for Cass here?”
“Of course, it’s always good to see pretty ladies such yourselves dressing up. Come on and pick the outfit out,” Tam rumbled deep in his chest while stepping out of the way as Dna almost pushed Cass inside to see the costumes.

Cass giggled as the costumer complimented her and Dana. Looking through the racks, she wasn't quite sure what she wanted. " You know, that sound fun. We could go back to London with you. I was just going to drive back to Birmingham after this and take the floo back, but it would be nice to see London before we go back to school. Besides, I have got to see this car you've been raving about." She let her hands graze a few of the ornate dresses that hung on the wall. Letting her eyes stop on a green and white gown, she took it off the rack and held it up to herself. The white, poofy sleeved under shirt contrasted heavily against the silk green overskirt. " You like it? I think it goes well with my eyes!" She admired the dress one last time and decided up on it. As a finishing touch, she took a crown of flowers. Paying the man for the outfit, she went and changed into the outfit.
Leaving the store a few moments later, she let Dana give her approval " Now, I'm set for the day." She fiddled with the ribbons that hung down from the flowers that graced her head. " Oh, wanna see the sword fights? I love them." She headed into the direction of the dueling stadium.

Dana shook her head: “Nah, my car is back in France. Rented this one. Dark-blue like fit for a Ravenclaw and even though I don’t have a clue about it other-wise, I just how it looked,” Dana said with a smile, acknowledging the fact that Cass was going back to London with her with a nod, “Good choice. It does bring out your eyes. You know what I though the other day – I was bored in Potions as my potion simmered. I figured that one could turn Malfoy into a rather alright looking girl. Sanpe glared at me for the rest of the class as I tried to stifle my laughter at the thought. See – it’s dangerous if I let my mind wonder freely.”
Stepping out of the tent or store or whatever the place was called Dana nodded: “Sure, sword-fights might be interesting. Can’t wait for the riding tournament though – it was supposed to start later.”
Dana followed Cass, moving around people easily while grimacing towards a rather high speed attraction: “I don’t understand why people would want to pay for such things. It throws you around and generally makes you feel sick and people actually stand in line and pay for it? Gah, personally I will NOT get on any American highway ever again. Or anything the twirls fast. I’m alright with white hobbyhorses that elegantly swing up and down slowly.” Dana grimaced as the attraction threw a quick swing again making the people on it scream. Dana shuddered and turned back to Cass.

Cassie smiled at the thought of Draco being a girl. " Yeah, he sure is pretty, and sort of afeminate." She smiled at Dana. " That sucks about the car. I would really like to see it. Well, I probably get to do it this summer, won't I?" She winked at her.
" Speaking of this summer, I can't wait! You know, I've only been out of the country once before this summer, and that was when Dad was still working. We got to go to the Southern United States. I loved it."
Cass looked at the the ride that was towering above them. " There used to be this little amusement park by my house, and I would get on those things and stay on them till I was sick. Dad would get so upset because I wouldn't be able to eat for days afterward."
Nearing the pitch where they were dueling, Cass looked forlornely at the men getting ready to fight. " You know, I used to dream of being a female knight. You know, the girls who steal their brothers armor and run away from home to fight the evil minions of the horrible king." Cass' eyes got this dreamy, star eyed look in them. " A fairy tale, I guess? However, I thought witches were fairy tales too, and I am now one." She shrugged off handedly, pushing the thought aside.

“The States – there are absolutely marvelous places there. Did you see the Grand Canyon as well?” Dana asked curiously – she had been to USA herself as well. Dana had been to most places around the globe, thanks to her grand-parents who usually took Dana with them in every summer to see the world, “As for summer – I told Meredith you are coming as well. She didn’t mind at all and Maria and Anna both know as well.”
Dana grinned as she listened to Cass’ story of being a female knight: “Really? I never wanted to be a knight nor did I ever dream of a knight coming and taking me away to sunset. I preferred a dragon to protect me. Still do, even though the dragon is often impersonated as Kris. But me myself – I wanted to be that mysterious lady about who you never know what she’ll do or when or why. Maybe a sorceress of some kind? Something like that.”
As they reached the stage where sword-plays were held Dana moved through the people, throwing a snapping comment back to a rather two-minded comment yelled after her thanks to her costume. Rolling her eyes towards Cass, but not really bothering herself anymore with the comment Dana looked at the sword-fight with interest.

Cass shook her head at the mention of the Grand Canyon. " No, didn't get the chance to go. We stayed in the south. I did get attached to sweet ice tea. It's great. Pyro tried it once and actually liked it pretty well."
Watching the men duel, she continued to converse. " Nah, I never wanted to be a sorceress. I thought it was way too overplayed. I'm not saying that now though. I love who and what I am. I just wished it could be easier..." She trailed off.
Watching one of the swordsman know the helmet of the other one off, she jumped up and clapped her hands. " Look at that Dana. Wow, that was really hard to do."

”Ice tea is great. Almost as good as coffee,” Dana said with a grin and wink towards Cass. Both she and Kris drank coffee every morning – turning a goblet of pumpkin juice into a cup of fresh coffee was the first spell Dana learned and perfected within a week. “I wanted to be a sorceress. Not completely evil, not completely good. Doing what I feel is right, when I feel it’s the right time to do it. Something like balancing the Slytherin and Gryffindor friends really,” Dana added as an after-thought. Then again – Dana surprisingly sometimes felt more relaxed and free among Slytherins. Then again – she had more Slytherin then Gryffindor friends. An interesting concept really.
Being swallowed in her thoughts Dana jumped as Cass started clapping. Glancing towards the duel Dana grimaced: “If you say so. I wasn’t really paying attention. Maybe it’s just me – and I’m no expert on this - but it always seems that the two-handed sword is a whole lot harder to use. And that it’s slower, even though it might deliver more heavy blows.”
Dana paused for a second, before shaking her head and laughing: “Did that even make sense?”
Cass nodded curtly in the way of the fight. " Of course a two handed sword is harder to wield. Well, for one, they are heavier and larger. Usually takes a bigger person to use them. I've never been able to use a two handed weapon. I would love to though, but I'm not that talented." She smiled a shy smile. " I wanted to ask Pyro to show me how to use it, but we are not on the best of terms right now." Her hand traveled to the back of her neck and she scratched it quickly. This wasn't a conversation she wanted to get into; not even with one of her best friends. True, she normally told Dana everything, and I do mean everything, she was keeping this close to her.
She stood up on the top of her toes as a taller man stepped in front of her. " Damn! Maybe we should go find something else to occupy our time. OH, I know there is someone making weapons, and a candle makers. Let's go check out the merchants. Maybe I can find some cool fabric."
