Severus Snape swept into the room and began walking towards the front slamming all the doors shut tight with his wand, anyone late to class wouldn't try and sneak in his room. Reaching the front of the room he pointed his wand at the board and a list of ingredients appeared in the potion masters spidery writing. Turning towards the class Professor Snape announced with in a chilling voice as he glared out at the students, "Today you will be making a Swelling Solution. Hope you didn't think you would get to chatter all day seeing as spring break just ended!"
Seating himself down behind his desk he added, "Any questions look to your book for answers you can read can't you?" Snape seemed to snarl at the last part. "Now no talking and begin." That said Snape began to grade papers.

Celina was by the lake when she suddenly remembered Potions class. Looking down at her watch and realising she had only ten minutes, she sprinted back to the castle and to the library, where she had left her Potions homework that morning. Grabbing her books, parchments and quills she ran out of the library and towards the Potions classroom. As she entered, she realised she was the first to arrive. Quite puzzled as it was not likely for students to turn up late for Snape's class, she looked at the clock on the wall, only to realise that her watch was five minutes fast. Wishing the professor, she took a seat at the first row. Potions was one of her favourite classes (after DADA and Transfiguration) so it was only natural for her to sit right in front. Looking at the blackboard and then down at her Potions books, she got down to work.

Nasser arrived at his Potions class on time; he always made sure never to be late for that class in particular; he did not like to think what Snape would do to him if he were late. Potion was one of his favourite subjects, even though Snape was one of his least favourite people. Nasser sometimes wondered what made him so bitter, but most of the time he was mad at Snape for being unfair to Gryffindors and did not care.
Spring Break had just ended and Nasser was still in a holiday mood. He tried to get back into the role of the good student however, and convince himself that the holiday was over and classes had started once again. His legs and arms also hurt a bit from his skating experience with Sethia and Perseus. He had enjoyed skating once he got the hang of it, and had a wonderful time with his friends, but it had taken several falls to learn, and he still hurt a bit.
After greeting the professor, he sat in his usual place behind one of his friends and said a quick “Hi Celina”, then pulled out his textbook. “We’re very cheerful today,” thought Nasser to himself after Snape told the class what they were supposed to do. He went to the Potions cupboard and got the ingredients, then set about making the Swelling Solution.

Perseus was in his dorm looking through his muggle, advanced chemistry and physics books, pondering about Quantum Electrodynamics. It was an intriguing subject that was worthwhile to read, although imbibing the information became difficult when it became very sophisticated. But, not for Perseus! He read on and on until he understood most of the concepts in the first half of the book. Then he shifted to Quantum mechanics and went from there all morning and it was pretty easy work, as he had already mastered all of Calculus by now.
After a while, Perseus suddenly remembered, potions class!! It was a natural talent of his and he was top student in potions of his year (120% end of year exam), and it was the most compelling subject he had ever set eyes upon. He sprinted down the stairs, out of the Slytherin common room, down the dungeons hallway and into the Potions classroom. He walked in with his usual excitement and greeted Professor Snape, "Hello, Professor!" Perseus sat down next to Nasser and said, "Fine day for potion making isn't it!" He looked at the board to see that they would be doing a swelling solution, and commented with elation, "Easy enough!" Then, he set about creating the swelling solution as he precisely measured the ingredients.

Sitting in the common room and munching on some muffins, Alicia was completing the last part of her Charms assignment. "There, all nicely done," she said, putting down her quill and examining her work. She neatly arranged her Charms assignment and textbook and put it under the coffee table. Once that was done, Alicia went upstairs to her dorm to collect her Potions textbook, some parchments and new quills and then was off to the Potions classroom.
"Good morning, Professor Snape," greeted Alicia cheerfully as she walked into her favourite class. Sitting in the third row, she took out her textbook and looked at the blackboard. Potions was by far her best subject so after a split-second of digestion she got down to work.

Post by Cassie on Apr 27, 2004 19:06:39 GMT
Cassie loved her classes. But one class she wasnt too fond of. She was good in it but afraid of the teacher. Potions class was that subject.
Walking down the dungeon stairs she held onto the railing as she wasnt used to going into the dungeons. Seeing the door closed toward her class she took a deep breath and opened the door. Seeing Professor Snape was in the front of class, Cassie didnt look at his eyes. A cold chill went down her back as she walked toward the middle of the classroom.
Listening to the Professor say the assignment, Cassie turned quickly toward the potions cupboard. Already knowing the ingredents she needed without looking the book. She walked back to her spot with all of the things she needed. Going over the ingredents in her head, she began to measure all of them to correct size. When she finished she sat down and waited for further directions. Cassie already knew what to do, but she wanted to double check.

Post by Aden McGrogan on Apr 27, 2004 19:47:49 GMT
Aden walked slowly out of the Slytherin Common room as he made his way toward his Potions class. Aden hates classes, unlike his high scoring sisters. But Aden would actually go to Potions class without getting yelled at by his mother to go.
Walking into the classroom he hear Snape's usual roar. Addapting to the noise, He smiled as he watched the other students in the room jump. Darting his eyes from one student to the next he didnt see anyone from his same house. His eyes ended on Perseus. Narrowing his eyes Aden remembered that he loved muggles and there work. The only way he knew that was because he listened in on his and Dawn's conversation a long time ago in the Common room. Aden shook his head as he didnt know why his sister even conversed with him. The McGrogan's know better.
Finding his own seat in the class room he set his books down. Getting all of his ingredents for the Swelling Solution potion he began to start. Looking up at Snape, he began to wait to find out what student he was going to flip on this class.

Trying to sepress a yawn, Drusilia walked into the chilly dungeons silently hoping she didn't run into her cousin, who for some reason hated her with avengence. With that thought Drusilia hurried up her pace and stopped just inside the potions classroom, running in Snape's class probably wasn't one of the greatest idea's in the world, if you wanted to live that is!
Finding a seat in the very back of the room, she dropped her bag and pulled out her book as well as a small pair of black framed glasses which she put on. Looking up she didn't have to listen to Snape's preclass lecture seeing as what they had to do was written on the board, after scanning over the board she got up and went to gather the needed ingredients for the Swelling Solution.
Before starting Drusilia looked up the Solution in her book and read it over quickly then organized her ingredients. "Fun fun more of dear old Snape's classes..." She muttered softly under her breath as she set to work.

((I forgot I was going to end class . Sorry for not doing this post better! I don't want the class to end with no one having finished so I'll give some directions that I should have givin from the start)) Instructions in book Step 1: Fill cauldron with 3/4 gallon of water, heat up until it starts to boil. Step2 : Add slowly 1/2 cup of powdered bicorn stirring your potion slowly counter-cloack wise. Step 3: Now stop stirring your potion and add in one tea spoon of essence of Belladonna (posionous), now stir your potion counterclockwise for a minute at a slow speed. Step 4: Add in a tea spoon of aconite but stop stiring your potion counter clock wise and start stiring clockwise at a medium speed. Step 5: Continue stiring while adding in 1 /13 cups of Bizoar, then stop after completely mixed. Step 6: lower flame and let potion simmer for 5 minutes. .... Snape looked up from the papers he was grading and asked "What are two different names for the poison aconite? The person that can answer that question gets 5 points for their house. ((hint: Harry was asked about this same plant before.))

Perseus raised his hand to answer Snape's question. This was just too rudimentary. He stated, "Aconite is a plant used in many potions. Also known as Monkshood or Wolfsbane."

Nasser couldn't help smiling as Perseus answered the question. His tone indicated how easy he felt the question was. Nasser then concentrated on getting on with the potion. He filled his cauldron with 3/4 gallon of water, then whispered the incantation to set fire to the wood below the cauldron and left it to heat up until it started to boil.
He then slowly added 1/2 a cup of powdered bicorn which he had not needed to grind since he had some spare from making another potion, and stirred his potion slowly in a counter-clock wise direction. Soon he stopped stirring his potion and added in one tea-spoon of essence of Belladonna, and once again stirred his potion counterclockwise for a minute at a slow speed.
He stopped stirring counter-clockwise and added a teaspoonful of aconite and started stirring clockwise at a relatively higher speed, then added in 1 /13 cups of Bizoar, being careful with the measurement, then stoped after the potion was completely mixed. With another flick of his wand he lowered the flame and let the potion simmer for 5 minutes.
A shimmering sky blue mist had formed on the top of his potion, which was a good sign as that was what he expected. He smiled at Perseus who of course had already finished, and waited for further instructions from Snape.

Perseus smiled back at Nasser after he finished answering Snapes question. He followed the instructions meticulously, and by the end, he had a perfect swelling solution in his cauldron, simmering slightly.

Professor Snape smiled when he saw a Slytherin rase their hand, he would have hatted to give any extra credit points to a Gryffindor or any other house for that matter, especially sence he really ever did so. "Yes Mister Feynman?" Professor Snape nodded when the boy gave the right answer, "very good, 5 points for Slytherin."
Snape looked around the room to see students finishing with the first set of steps. Jestering towards the board slightly with his wand he added a few more steps.
Step 7: Add 7 leeches, still alive, to your potion and once again stir your potion clockwise at a medium speed without stopping or changing your speed for 4 minutes.
Step 8: Let potion set for 9 minutes.
Step 9: Stir slowly while adding in 3 puffer-fish eyes then speed up your stiring to a medium speed. Increase heat by half.
Step 10: Stop stirring and remove all 7 leeches from your potion and let set for 10 minutes. (chop up 9 daisy roots for later use in potion in this time.)
