Post by Professor Pomona Sprout on Oct 17, 2006 18:12:25 GMT
Pomona hurried across the Hogwarts lawns and towards Greenhouse four. This particular autumn day seemed chillier than most, and she knew her poor plans would not take the dropping temperatures well. Most were of course, protected in the greenhouses, but she knew better than to think that made them oblivious to the changes happening outside those thin walls; plants where far smarter than most realized. As she reached the greenhouse, she pushed the door and stepped inside, quickly closing as not to let too much of the cold outside air in. Greenhouse four contained the special plants, only to be handled by the most experienced of her students, and any plant of such nature required very careful care, and a fast temperature drop would surely upset the plants they would be working with today, and that could be disasters. After Pomona gather her sorts again she went to the table at the font of the room, which she used for demonstrations, and placed a small stack of papers and books down before digging her want out from the layers and layers of dirtied fabric she wore. After her wand was drawn she did a quick point at the chalkboard , the words Atropa belladonna quickly appearing. After a glance to make sure all was right Pomona went to work, using her want to move a rather bush flowered plan to her work station before putting another two on the end of the large students table. After that she flicked her want again, moving the small sets of supplies to each of the students stations. With the plants they would be working with today they would need full protection, and the planting gowns and gloves would help to provide that, as would the goggles, once they started preparing their plant for further use. After her room was prepared, Pomona made herself busy, checking the other dangerous and deadly plants spread around the greenhouse, waiting for her NEWTs students to arrive.

He hadn't exactly considered Herbology one of his strong points, but somehow when Professor Sprout went around asking which Hufflepuffs would be taking her NEWTs course he coudln't quite bring himself to tell her no. After that he managed to somehow justify it to himself by saying he was going to depend on plants for a living, even if it wasn't in a magical way, it might be a good idea to know a few of the magical properties. Today was their first class of the season, and Sprout had sent out a notice that they would be in Greenhouse 4, where the dangerous plants were kept. Soehow, that made Herbology seem just a bit more intresting.
As he reached greenhouse 4 and pushed the door open he noticed taht he was the first student there, which always made him feel slightly uneasy. Somehow being first to class never quite suited him. As he looked towards the font of the class he saw Sprout and he smiled politely at her "Good morning Professor" he said as he made his way towards one of the stations closest to her table and glanced back up at the board to see 'Atropa belladonna' written out, and he guessed that was the plant they would be wokring with today.

Jasmine hurried around the dorm room trying to get all her Herbology stuff together. Normally her school supplies were already out and ready to go from the night before and the only thing she had to do was put them inside of a bag and head out the common room. That wasn't the case for that day. The night before Jasmine fell asleep earlier than usual and just forgot to put her things together the night before. It wasn't like her to do that, but it did happen some of the time. She had almost already found everything but her Herbology book. Jasmine stopped right next to her bed trying to think where on earth it went. It wasn't in the trunk, on the bedside table, or even under her bed. Picking up her shoulder bag from the ground, she unclasped the clasp and looked inside. A wave of relief rushed through her as she saw the book inside already. Jasmine thought she would have to go out to buy another one. Stuffing the rest of her Herbology supplies inside with the book she closed the bag and headed out of the common room.
Taking out a warm hat from the front pocket of her bag she pulled it down over her dark hair. It was quite chilly outside, which meant fall was already here. Jasmine never really minded the cold whether much. The only time she really hated being outside in it was if a class was outside in it like Care of Magical creatures. Luckily Herbology was inside of a greenhouse which was somewhat warm. Jasmine wasn't all that good at the subject, but she did enjoy the course. Professor Sprout had asked her to continue into NEWTS years and she couldn't say no. After all, she wanted to know if being a healer would be a good career path for her or maybe even something else was better for her. Jasmine wanted to continue using magic and also ride horses, but there weren't any job in the magical world for horses, and she couldn't just use magic around muggle barns. Her mother was a healer and Jasmine did quite enjoy helping others. Also potions were her best subject, and she could still keep horses and go riding if she was a healer.
Once reaching the Greenhouse, Jasmine looked around to only see one other student there. Smiling lightly at the Hufflepuff, she set her bag down under one of the stations. "Good morning Professor Sprout," she greeted, her hazel eyes looking back to the board. "Atropa belladonna?" she spoke quietly under her breath wondering what kind of plant they were to be working with today.

Will gathered up his things together, not at all worried about being tardy. It was hardly ever a worry of Will's, even though he had a rather leisurely walk - to be modest - as if he didn't find class worth rushing for. Of course he had to stop along the way and greet different people he knew, then carry on with the same slow pace that could match a snail's. Today was Herbology, one of the more interesting, yet somewhat slow subjects. Sometimes Will was fascinated by the plants, while he had his days were disgust, annoyance, and frustration were written all over his face. When they had to deal with the more gross plants, Will tried to brave it without complaint, though grumbling to himself became common. Well, he couldn't say that the subject didn't interest him, even if it was a little dirty. Plus, with Herbology there were tons of job openings that could appear, and Will wanted that. He wanted options, even though he had already set his heart on one particular destination.
Shouldering his bag, Will set out, making his way through the hallways with the occasional apology when he nearly pushed someone to the ground. The halls were nearly always bustling with crowds of students and usually they were in groups, causing it to become nigh impossible to get through. Will found that these people were usually either oblivious or snotty, but either way they were annoying. Throwing the heavy oak doors open, Will stepped outside and inhaled deeply. He liked it when the air was crisp and sharp, though he much preferred humid muggy days. Sometimes the air could be too sharp or crisp and sometimes it provided limited warmth. Especially if there was a breeze. It didn't seem too bad at the moment, but Will shrugged his jacket closer, just in case. The path to the greenhouses was pleasant and enjoyable, maybe because Will loved the outdoors so much. He couldn't help but notice things others thought silly or granted. They couldn't possibly begin to see through his eyes.
Smiling, Will opened the Greenhouse Four door and stepped inside. It was much warmer than outside, causing him to rub his tingling fingers in the hopes of bringing them back to life. Looking around, Will was surprised to see hardly any in the classroom. Usually he was just on time, not early. It was quiet too, very quiet. Turning on his smile again, Will greeted the Professor with a "good morning," and settled in a chair beside Jasmine. "Hey," he said in an undertone, not wanting to break the quiet. He unpacked his things on the table and looked at the word on the board. Atropa belladonna. Hmm... sounds Italian, Will thought, though he knew nothing of different languages. Putting his quill in the ink bottle, William leaned back and waited for more people to appear. The quiet was disturbing him.

Jeremiah yawned sleepily has he made his way toward the greenhouses. It was a cool day, causing him to shiver as he walked. His one hand held his Herbology book, and his other was tucked in his pocket to keep it warm. Herbology wasn't necessarily his favorite subject, but he found it simple enough to understand, even if there were many important things to remember about each plant. It was more of a practical hands on subject that most others.
When he opened the greenhouse door, he felt the warm air start to take away the chill of the outside. He closed it quickly behind him and turned to find a seat. So far, there were only three others, all of which he recognized as fellow prefects. He nodded to those who looked up and then took a seat at one of the empty tables. Still a bit tired, he wasn't in the mood for much company. He laid his book on the table and examined the contents that were waiting for each of the students. He figured that they must be working with dangerous plants, as Professor Sprout had laid out all the necessary safety articles that Jeremiah despised wearing. He felt silly when he had to wear the full outfit of gloves, goggle, and the apron. Always able to see the others in the protective wear, he knew that he himself must have looked just as ridiculous. Instead of putting the things on then, he waited for further instruction. He wasn't going to wear the items for any longer than he had to- even if they were for his own good.
