Laryssa sighed as she ran her fingers through her curly hair. She hated serving detention. She loved teaching, hated detention. It was a necessary part of schooling though. People broke the rules, they paid for them too. This girl however, hadn’t just received a weeks detention but had also lost 55 points for Slytherin along with her little friend, total they lost 110 points. The other girl was with McGonagall, and Laryssa was lucky enough to get Rachel Mason. Oh joy. Laryssa stood from her desk in her office and made her way to the observatory area. She knew the perfect chore for Rachel to do and it would take all week as well.
Along the wall were a lot of cleaning supplies and a very tall ladder. Laryssa looked up and flicked her wand. The room was then illuminated with sunlight. The observatory area was all in all a room with a giant glass ceiling. A ceiling that hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly in years. Now, it would be. Laryssa nodded and looked to the door just as it opened. “Good, you’re here. Your assignment is simple,” Laryssa stated flatly. She walked over to the cleaning supplies and pointed at each one, “You will scrub that ceiling until it is spotless. This will take all week, so don’t expect to get it done in one day. If you do in fact finish it before your week is up, I’ll think of something else for you to do.” Laryssa scowled and headed into her office, “If you need me, knock.”

Rachel walked into the room, ready to serve her detention. Her hair fell in front of her face, and she pushed it back impatiently. She knew she deserved whatever punishment Professor Miller thought up, and although she wasn't looking forward to it, she was glad that it would finally be over in a week. Rachel knew she had been completely stupid and reckless to go into the Forbidden Forest, and it was only a moment of insanity, brought on by various problems that she had even attempted to do it. But it had been done, and Rachel wasn't scared to face the consequences.
"Evening, Professor Miller," Rachel greeted, trying to sound cheerful but not wanting to sound imputant. Hoping she struck a happy medium, she waited until Miller told her what to do. As she spoke, Rachel felt her eyes widening. Staring at the ceiling, she gave a weak smile. Miller was kidding; it would take Rachel much longer than a week. But not one to dwell, she simply picked up some cleaning supplies. "Thankyou, Professor Miller," she said sincerely, before getting ready to tackle the assignment. She was determined to make the ceiling completely and utterly spotless by the end of the week, and didn't care how hard she had to work. Rachel was going to prove herself.

Collapsing onto the floor, Rachel wondered how long it had been since she had begun. She stared at the ceiling, trying to figure out how the ceiling could possibly look even worse after she had worked on it for so long. She couldn't even see where she had been working; it was as if in the few minutes she had stopped working the dirt and grime had seen a spare space and decided to relocate. Lying on the cold floor, Rachel tried to massage her aching arms. Dirt was smeared all over her face and hands, and her hair was matted with sweat. She had been determined to succeed, and even though it looked impossible, she was still going to make this ceiling spotless. She had a week, and the first day wasn't over yet. Picking up another cleaning supply, Rachel looked at it, trying to decide whether she was ready to start again. She was hurting all over. It wasn't the dirt that bothered her, it was her straining muscles from the excertion she was putting herself under so she would do a good job. "No, a great job!" She muttered to herself, gritting her teeth. Rachel wasn't an idiot, she knew what people saw when they look at her. And she was going to prove them wrong. She wasn't going to let a bit of dirt or a few sore muscles bother her. Rachel stood up defiantly, stalking unsteadily over to the cleaning equipment. She felt a bit lightheaded, but she wasn't going to stop.
Scrubbing as hard as she could, Rachel felt the sweat fall down her face. It was making her face itchy, but she couldn't stop. This ceiling was going to be spotless. Her hands were scractched and raw, but she knew she wouldn't stop. She heard her parent's voices in her ear, and it made her scrub harder. Pausing, she touched a hand to her face. Something wasn't right; she didn't feel right. Rachel tried to steady herself, but she felt herself slipping away, and didn't even open her eyes when she fell heavily to the floor.
