Juliette Vector's classroom was on the 2nd floor near a stairwell to the Great Hall. Though it was quite a busy walkway, enough charms had been placed on the door and walls to dampen the sound. This was a necessity for such a subject as Arithmancy which required precise calculations. Arithmancy itself was a simple branch of magic which produced solid results that could be verified by as many people as need be, unlike other forms of fortune telling. The entire classroom was carpeted with a soft white carpet that was spotless and always soft as a feather. The center of the room had twenty oak student tables with two cushioned swivel chairs at each table. The wall opposite of the door was lined with cabinets that were all locked. Within were scores of runes, Juliette's other passion. The back wall contained two large windows that let ample amounts of sunlight in the area, also by the windows sat four pale blue couches. Under the windows sat a small cabinet that contained a couple wizard chess boards, as well as about a dozen other games. To Juliette a good classroom was one that students enjoyed coming to, she did her best to make sure that her class was comfortable enough for students to do their best work, though foolishness was quickly dealt with and the offender soon found that they no longer had any privileges in the class. When not teaching a class, Juliette would allow any student who so desired to come to her room to study, relax or simply talk and hang out.
As the bell to rang she rose to her feet. "Good afternoon class, today we will begin our Arithmancy work with a simple self evaluation followed by a independent life study. I hope you have all read chapter 1 in your textbooks thoroughly. Now then, Today you will be using your own names. First off I would like you all to find your CHARACTER number. When you have found your CHARACTER number please write down what your number means in regards to your overall personality. You may now begin."
(( If you have never taken Arithmancy before, go to the classes section, my class page there explains how to find your CHARACTER number and what it means.))

Post by Sophia Hallington H7 on Nov 23, 2006 21:50:46 GMT
Sophia was really excited that day. She had arithmancy for her next lesson, and she couldn't wait-it was her favourite lesson. She just loved working with numbers and arithmancy showed her that it was more than just algebra and arithmetic, and there was some magical use to them. And she was good at it too-she could do mental addition well-a necessity with Arithmancy, and she was still amazed at how well the numbers showed her personality, an the personalities of her classmates.
So she walked into the classroom that afternoon, to be greeted by emptiness, and a sense of semi-casualness. Aswell as the lesson, Sophia loved the classroom-the soft white carpet, the large windows, the blue couches. It was like a home from home. So she sat down at one of the desks at the front of the classroom, with a cheery nod, smile, and "Hello, Professor", in the direction of Professor Vector, and got her book out of her bag.
After a few other students arrived, Vector told the class to work out their character numbers. This was fairly hard for Sophia, having such a long surname, and there were a fair few big numbers-7s, 8s and 9s in there. But she worked it out as follows:
1+6+7+8+9+1+8+1+3+3+9+5+7+2+6+5=81 8+1=9
Looking at her book, it said that "9 Represents completion and achievement to the fullest degree. Nines dedicate themselves to service, often as teachers, scientists, and humanitarians. Strongly determined, they work tirelessly and are an inspiration to others. However, they can also be arrogant and conceited when things don't go their way". She agreed with the last section, about being arrogant and conceited at times-that was true, and partly with the bit before that, about working hard, although she doubted that she was inspirational. As for the beginning, she partly disagreed-she tried her best, but she still didn't get the best grades, and the essays she did were often apparently incomplete...and she had no intention of being one of the things mentioned. So she looked puzzled at this, yet still wrote it down.

Adam entered the classroom beloning to Professor Vector. He always found in interesting, coming to this classroom. It was so different than most of the other rooms in the castle. Finding a seat, Adam noticed that the room was fairly empty. A small class was good though. He never was one for large crowds. This was one of his favorite classes as well. Although he wasn't very good with the fortun telling aspect of the class, he enjoyed working with numbers. Soon after the bell sounded, Professor Vector quickly began the class with no delays.
The assignment was familiar to Adam. He remembered doing character numbers before. Using the comon chart in the front of the book, he quickly copied down his name and the corresponding numbers. He already knew what his character number was, but he figured he should have work to prove that he had calculated it correctly.
ADAM GREENE 1414 795555 46 --> 10 --> 1
1. It was an easy number to remember. Adam read over the explanation for the number 1. This is the number of the individual. Ones are independent, focused, and determined. They set a goal and stick to it. They are leaders and inventors. Ones find it difficult to work with others and don't like to take orders. They can be self-centered, egotistical, and domineering. They are often loners. It almost explained him exactly. The only thing he would have disagreed with was the leadership aspect. He didn't necessarily like to think of himself as being self-centered, egotistical, and domineering. However, he knew that even if he wasn't this way on the outside, it was the way he truly was on the inside. He simply used these traits though to drive his motivation in succeeding. Thiking over it for a moment, he wrote a small interpretation of how this related to himself.
I am a 1. The explanation given in the book almost fits me exactly. I am independant, focused and determined. Also, I tend to be a loner for the most part. As far as goal setting, I have set some very high goals for myself, and I am constantly trying to work toward achieving them. The rest of the explanation in the book is not as close to me as far as I can see. I am not much of a leader or inventor, and I am usually not outwardly egotistical, self-centered, or domineering. Overall though, I would agree that I am a pretty close fit to what the book describes as being a nubmer 1 as far as my character number is concerned.
Pleased with his work, Adam waited patiently for the next set of instructions.
