The Perfect Candy ((Anna))

Maryn pulled her creme colored jacket closer to her skin. The cold December Air made her entire body shiver. Why did I decide to do this? A weary Maryn asked herself, but she already knew the answer. Christmas was coming soon and she promised Nate, Mercy, and Tommy some authentic Hogsmeade candy. Maryn knew she had to keep her promise. Especially to Nate. Maryn couldn't care to let down her sick brother and she wasn't planning on it. Even though Maryn had been through so much over the months with Nate's illness and Leon's death, she still knew her morals and what she should be doing. It took her awhile to gain any confidence back, but she did. True, Maryn wasn't the same, she was different in some ways, but she was still Maryn. She was still the same person just with a few new ideas. And one thing Maryn would never forget to do was something for Nathan. So, Maryn trekked on as she made her way to Hogsmeade. She had decided to enter the village alone instead of with one of the many friends she had. Lately, Maryn just hadn't been up to talking with them, but she was getting better at it. Maryn especially didn't want to talk to May and Flo. But, that was mainly because Maryn knew she would think of Leon and cry when she saw them. Besides, Maryn didn't have a problem with walking solo. None at all.

As she entered the village, Maryn smiled to a few school friends. It seemed to be a popular Hogsmeade day. Of course, that was only because Christmas was one week away. Maryn pulled her hat down to cover her ears. She had decided to wear her favorite aqua snow cap. Maryn also had on her favorite dark jeans, low cut aqua sweater, creme coat, and her Gryffindor Messenger Bag. Maryn's style had changed a lot over the months, but every now and then, she couldn't help going back to her old bright, crazy clothing ways. However, Maryn did tone down her style a lot more than how it used to be. Maryn smiled as she walked into the Candy Store. She looked around at the many different types of candy. Now, what would Nathan like? She really had no idea. Mercy and Tommy were easy, but not Nathan. The sales associate walked up to her. "Can I help you with anything?" She asked in a high pitched, friendly voice. "Umm, in a minute maybe. I'm still trying to decide." Maryn explained. "Ok, well let me know if you need any help." Maryn smiled as the worker walked away. Maryn just stood there and looked through the racks of candy as she tried to find the perfect thing for Nate.

Anna treked down the snowy street. She was supposed to meet Maryn in Honeydukes. She was reaching the post office which meant Honeydukes was only three doors away. As she came up to the post office she decided to stop by for a minute to look at the many owls.

She walked through the door and immeadiately realized she had made a mistake. The entire room was filled with witches and wizards, trying to send there gifts for others. Anna walked straight out the door.

There it was at last, Honeydukes, she walked in the door and was shoved into the crowd, how would she ever find Maryn?

Maryn searched the the racks of candies. What to get Nate? He was aloud to have candy right? Oh well. Maryn didn't think candy would really affect Nate's health at the point he was at. What would a little candy do to him? Nothing, Maryn concluded. Maryn looked down at her green and silver muggle watch. Anna would be there soon. Anna was a younger Gryffindor girl that Maryn didn't know very well, but Maryn wanted to. Yes, Maryn had many friends. She always had been a people person, but she sort of isolated herself from them when Nate got sick. Maryn still didn't have the courage to talk to May and Flo. She missed Leon too much and if Maryn saw them, she knew she would break down. She missed him, but she had to move one eventually. Maryn hadn't seen many of her friends in a while and some of them had even left Hogwarts after their third year. Maryn missed them all, but there wasn't anything she could do to bring them back. Maryn had to make a new start. She could get new friends, right? She she could. Maryn assured herself shakily. Maryn pulled a few individual packs of chocolate frogs off the shelf for Mercy and Tommy. She would find them more but that was a good start. Maryn continued to walk about the store.

Minutes had passed and still Maryn didn't see Anna. Was she okay? Maryn assured herself that Anna was fine. True, Maryn was getting more paranoid, but she was trying to ease her nerves more. Focus on a gift for Nate. Maryn shouted inside her mind. Ahh. Thoughts. They were getting tangled in her head again. Maryn leaned against the back wall. A break. Maryn could take a break from candy searching while she waited for Anna. She sighed. Her thoughts got jumbled in her head all too easily. Usually this resorted in a slight head ache, but Maryn usually didn't think about that. When she did, it scared her too. Maryn just remembered that Nate's Leukemia had started with symptoms that included headaches. Maryn you are not sick. She told herself. Could a witch even get Leukemia? Oh this was hopeless. Thoughts. They were getting jumbled up again. Finally, Maryn just slapped her head. Ouch. Great, now her head hurt even more. Finally, she gave up for good. She was going home now, she couldn't be out in public like this. As Maryn tried to leave the store, she saw Anna. Maryn was going to pretend like everything was fine. She was good at pretending. "Oh, hey Anna." Maryn started. She faked a smile perfectly. "I was just about to look for you. What's up?"
