The cool autumn breeze blew across Jeremiah's face. It was that time of year where you could tell that winter was going to be present before you knew it. Pulling his gray hood from his sweatshirt over his head, Jeremiah tucked his hands inside his front pocket and walked at a faster pace.
It was a scheduled Hogsmeade visit, and Jeremiah planned to use it to his advantage. He knew that with school work consuming most of his year ahead of him, he needed to start now in looking for a job. Plus, if he applied early, he might beat out some of the other graduates that would be seeking jobs come springtime. For once in his life, Jeremiah was actually planning ahead and taking responsibility. This was a trait had been almost forced on him in a way. After his father's death, he pretty much had to start waking up to the reality of life. He couldn't just sit back anymore and let it pass him by.
Hogsmeade wasn't too busy. There were a few witches here and there. As he passed, Jeremiah gave polite nods of acknowledgment. He really didn't have any set destination. With his less than stellar marks in classes, Jeremiah knew it wouldn't be the easiest task in securing a job. Most likely, he would have to start with something simple and work his way up. He did have his final year of classes to make an improvement, but it was almost too little too late.
The first building he passed was Three Broomsticks. Jeremiah thought it might be a good place to start. He figured he might even have a quick drink while he was in- something to warm him up a little.
The bell above the door chimed lightly as he crossed the threshold. The few customers inside glanced up at him as he walked to the bar. "What can I get'cha," the man's voice from behind the counter rang out. "Ah, a butterbeer will do," Jeremiah replied. "And, if its not too much trouble, could I possibly apply for a job for next summer?" he asked. "I know its a bit early, but I'm just trying to get on top of things." He offered a friendly smile, hoping the barman wouldn't think he was too desperate. "Sure thing son, I'll be right back with an application form." The man quickly got Jeremiah his butterbeer and then turned and disappeared through a door behind the bar.
Jeremiah took a sip of the warm liquid and let out a large sigh. The bell above the door rang again, and this time Jeremiah turned to see who had entered. He assumed it might be other Hogwarts students.
