Adam paced nervously back and forth in front of the door that led into the student lounge. He was so anxious that every time someone would walk in, he immediately hoped for it to be Rae. At one point, he even walked right into a girl he only knew as Emmy from the stories that went around about her and her twin. She gave him a weird look before he apologized quickly and starred at his watch again. The only reason he was hoping Rae would get there soon is that he really wanted the chance to talk to her before Sierra made it. He still wasn't quite sure how he should handle the whole situation. It had been two days since he got the letter, and he had been unable to work up the means of telling anybody. It was an odd feeling that had been brewing inside of him; part resentment, part relief, and even a bit of sadness. After all, they were his parents.
Finally, the unmistakable head of blond hair appeared from behind the door, and Adam almost tackled Rae in all of his rush and anxiety as he greeted her with the letter clutched tightly in his hand. "Read. Now." He figured that having Rae read it for herself was the quickest and most effective way to get her input. As he watched her eyes skim the page quickly, he was inwardly thankful that she didn't waste any time asking questions. She trusted him, which was something he was grateful for. As he noticed her glance up from the letter, he assumed she had finished reading. "What do I do? How do I tell her? Sierra, I mean," he quickly spit out, his eyes showing how desperate he was for Rae's input. "She doesn't know yet. I haven't been able to tell her. In fact, your the only other person that knows, Rae." He sat and waited, his facial expression starring deep into Rae's eyes as he searched for some strength and guidance from her. If there was ever a time Adam needed some support and advice, it was now. Sierra was now his responsibility, and he knew he couldn't live with himself if he went about it all wrong. He refused to do what his parents did. He would be there for her, and be the older support that she or he never had in their lives. He just needed a bit of help, that was all.

“No!” Rae reached across quickly and grabbed the young third year’s wrist before she could drop the eye of newt into her potion, “You never mix eye of newt with ashwinder egg. Never.” The third year immediately pulled her hand from over the pewter cauldron, frowning apologetically. “Here,” Rae took the eye from the girl and then stood up, pulling the girl with her, “Watch, okay?” She tossed the eye of newt into the cauldron, under hand, and within a second there was a loud BOOM! And smoke filled the space around them. Rae coughed and waved the smoke away from her face and looked down at the third year, “That’s why,” she smiled and tugged on the girl’s pigtail before pulling out her wand and cleaning everything up, “I’ve gotta run now, but keep practicing, alright? You’ll get it in no time.” The third year nodded and then started to mix her potion again from scratch as Rae gathered her things and left the classroom they had been using. She tucked a curl behind her ear and headed toward the Student Lounge where she had agreed to meet Adam. With the thought that something was completely bothering him, Rae quickened her foot steps and nearly collided with a younger student. She mumbled an apology as she shoved past them and continued on her way to the Student Lounge, her pace never slowing.
Finally, she pushed open the door and before she even had a chance to look around the room, Adam was in front of her; “Hey,” she stuttered out before he thrust something into her hands and instructed her to read. She made her way to a chair and unfolded the paper, setting her bag down on the chair; her eyes glued to the paper. “On behalf of the Ministry of Magic, the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and the Wizengamot Administration Services, I regretfully inform you of the recent arrests of Mr. and Mrs. James Greene.” Arrests? What? Rae didn’t ask anything, she just continued to read. “Upon the recent review of their involvement in a group known as the Dragon Clan, which resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen innocent bystanders in muggle Australia, they have been sentenced to a lifetime in Azkaban.” Oh, dear… Azkaban. Still, Rae didn’t say anything. She chewed on her bottom lip; wanting to look up from the paper, but forcing herself to continue to read. “As legal heir to the Greene estate your presence is required at our offices, as your signature is required for certain documentation. As well, the issue concerning custody of your younger sister, Ms. Sierra Greene, need be discussed with the proper department head at your convenience. Please stop by office number 37F at your earliest availability.” Rae let out a small breath and finally looked up at Adam.
Immediately he asked her questions that made her head spin. She put her hand on the back of the chair her bag was sitting in, and steadied herself. “I… I…” She took a deep breath and sank into the chair, pushing her bag out of it onto the floor. “I guess you just have to tell her. She’s already going to be upset that you kept it from her this long, won’t she? There’s no easy way to tell her about it… you just have to say it and explain it to her and make her understand it all. The worst thing you can do is sugar coat it.”

For what seemed like hours, Adam watched as Rae's eyes darted across the letter he had received from the ministry. He noticed a few facial expressions, and was glad that Rae read it all without bothering him with questions and irrelevant comments. It was almost like she knew he didn't need her sympathy as much as he just needed her to help him process what was happening. "Right," he replied as though it was that simple. "Just tell her." Adam took the letter from Rae and read over it again for himself. The more he let the reality of it sink in, the more he realized how much he didn't care about the fate of his parents but more of what this meant for he and Sierra. "It's not like she'll be surprised by it," he muttered. "We're used to them abandoning us." His words held little emotion besides the bitterness that had faded from his anger over the years. It was like he had become used to it. It was a natural thing when it came to his family. "I just hope she won't hold it against me," he said with a sigh as he crumbled the letter and tossed it into the fireplace while looking back up at Rae with a sorry look on his face.
Still, Adam was thankful that Rae seemed to know that just her being there was what he wanted most- her support was what helped him focus on what he needed to do. He wondered if Sierra would even care. Maybe she had learned to let go along time ago and maybe anger wouldn't be an issue for her. A simple shrug, and she'd forget all about it. Regardless, he'd have to explain why he had waited so long to tell her. Frankly, he wasn't sure why. He still thought it was just himself trying to protect her, but he of anybody knew how strong Sierra was. Way beyond her years in maturity, he shook his head as he thought he should have told her the moment he found out. She deserved to know. He realized he was only treating her like a child, which would be the last thing she'd want him to do. "I just hope she understands," he added just as the door opened again. As if on cue, Sierra stepped through the threshold of the door and shot Adam a smile when she noticed him. As she neared he and Rae, Adam glanced at Rae with hopeful eyes as Sierra took a seat across from him.
"So what'd ya want?" Sierra asked rather abruptly with a curious look on her face. Adam took a deep breath and then dropped his head before looking back up at Sierra as he started to explain the whole situation.

"Ummm," he began, wishing more and more that he'd have just told her when he first found out. "It's sort of a complicated situation. I mean, complicated in the fact that I probably should have told you a few days ago when I first got word." He paused, as if waiting for her to say something, but she simply looked at him, her eyes hinting that she just wanted him to spill whatever it was that he hadn't told her. "Mom and Dad are in Azkaban," he blurted somewhat suddenly. With a slight sigh, he did feel a bit relieved when the words left his lips. At first Sierra just stared at him, a bit shocked by the news, but seemingly apathetic to what Adam had just shared with her. "I got a letter just three days ago that explained how they had been part of some clan that was responsible for some deaths. Everything was left in my name, as well as I am now your legal guardian." He gave her a pleading look as if asking for her to forgive him for waiting to tell her.
For a few moments, Sierra let the news that Adam had just shared sink in. She couldn't find it in herself to fell anything but a sense of relief. Granted, she'd have thought that was what she would feel if she'd have ever been given the news that she had just received. Still, she figured there might be a hint of sadness or something of the sort. But there wasn't. There was nothing more than the feeling of something so pressing being lifted from her entire being. Even when thinking of how Adam had neglected to tell her right away, Sierra was so overcome with joy that it washed the anger away. "Is she moving in with us or something?" Sierra asked, shooting a curious glance toward Rae. "I mean, I just wondered why she had to be here for the news as well." Sierra had never really told Adam that she wasn't too fond of Rae. She didn't hate her, but for some reason she seemed to prefer Dixie, and she thought that it was way to quick for Adam to be moving on.
