Doobie doo. What a wonderful, fabulous, fantastic and truly smiling day. Not. Once again, May was in depression mode. Well- she didn't start it again, she was still in it. Depression mode... for May this now means silence. Small words, unless there was someone she could truly confide in. At first it was tears, then anger, now silence. So she entered the Student Lounge that Saturday afternoon in silence. Sat down in silence. Looked at her reflection in the huge glass window, in silence. The petite, blonde girl staring back at her was cute at a glance- like she used to be. But a closer inspection changed that opinion. Her eyes were once again bloodshot, her lips a little parched and cracked, she wasn’t wearing any make-up but light traces of smudged mascara from a few days ago still lingered. Her clothes were acceptable but definitely not May-standard. A large, oversized blue jumper which swamped the young Ravenclaw, some small black backless pumps, and some black jeans.
She flopped into her chair when she did, her face without expression nor emotion. Nothing changed in her features, even as a first year Hufflepuff tripped over her small silver shoulder bag on the floor. She merely bent down and righted it, before pulling a sheet of paper from her bag, crossing her legs and setting the paper face-down on her lap. The blank side stared at her almost menacingly. Could she do it? Yes… she had to.
In one swift, single movement, she turned the paper over and choked once as soon as the image upon it was shown to her. It was a gorgeous colour picture. It had a background of May’s room, the lilac walls pale and misty. Behind the two figures at the front was a bed, May’s bed, messily made up with several clothes and books strewn over it. The two figures at the front were the only things May focused on however. The right-hand one was herself, chirpy and bright- the old May. Her hair was in a loose, messy but cute white ponytail, and she was pulling a funny face- her tongue sticking out and her bright blue eyes wider than normal. She looked like she used to.
Next to May was the person she most wanted to see in real life, the person she never could see ever again. Leon. It was amazing how exact the siblings’ features were on that picture. May and Leon both had the same little nose, the same bright eyes, the same white-blonde fair hair and the same pale skin. Leon was grinning widely, his own blonde locks messy. His handsome features stared out at May and she failed to hold back the tears she’d been struggling to keep in. One single fat drop rolled down her paler-than-normal face, dropping onto the picture onto Leon’s gorgeous face. She remembered the day the photo was taken, remembered what the diaglogue- it was on her first holiday back from Hogwarts, after their first term of joyful bliss at being together at the castle for the first time.
May and Leon’s mother, tall and prim, standing with the camera. For once she was laughing happily as her two eldest children pulled silly faces before her.
“Come on now- the final one! This is the one that we’ll copy and send to my parents guys, so make it a good one. I’ll count down- ready?”
Leon and May nodded, grinning. The count down started, and the Polaroid was taken. They all crowded around the photograph eagerly. As they did, Leon slung his arm around his little sister’s shoulder lovingly. The image stared back at them, colourful and fabulous.
“My Peskie Pixie, forever and always!” He whispered into her ear with a giggle.
Not any longer. May stared as the thought came into her head. Peskie Pixie- not anymore. In one quick movement she dropped the photo on the floor where it fell sadly, face-up, the siblings’ happy faces peering out joyfully. May ignored it and covered her face with her hands, cursing the muggle way.
