It was such a gorgeous day- a complete change from the rain showers they’d been having lately. The sun, although not the hottest Baz had ever witnessed, was bright and bold. It shone through the windows of the student lounge fabulously and Sebastian noticed people turning to face the yellow orb, just to feel the difference. He loved days like this- the atmosphere was perfect. Everyone was calm and relaxed, getting on with homework in their own little ways. No-one was arguing. No Slytherins trying to pick a fight. Just pupils getting on with things. You could say that Baz was doing that too- he was sorting through his photos. Recently he’d started up an old hobby of his. Photography. The ancient muggle camera he used for his photos had been given to him long ago by his father. Before he turned into the monster he was now. Baz held the huge muggle camera in his hands now and felt the heavy weight of it, occasionally wiping off the odd bit of dust lovingly. He adored it completely.
The photos Sebastian had taken were from two days ago. He had wandered behind the
greenhouses and taken about twenty different shots. That reminded him of the girl he had met, a younger Hufflepuff named Harmony. She was interesting to talk to,and he made a note to befriend her at a later date.
He had taken one picture of her too though she hadn’t noticed it. Photos of people oblivious to the camera were often his favourite. He disliked this certain one however. The lighting was all wrong and as he stared, he imagined a different girl in that shot. A completely different one. Maryn. With her in that shot it would be perfect. She was gorgeous- he’d have to get a picture of her some day.
The other shots were simple nature ones. But all were carefully taken, with perfect lighting effects. Most had off-focus backgrounds and were taken with his favourite short lens. It had been a brilliant day for photography- much like today’s. But now he couldn’t go out. He was choosing four photos to send back home to his little sister Araine. She adored his photography when they were children, and the hard time he knew she was having with their father maybe could be helped by a few photos to enjoy. If only she were at Hogwarts. Baz missed her more than he could say, it pained him to see all the younger years playing about so happily. Another year- then she’d be here. He couldn’t wait.
Sifting once more through the photos he tucked a long brown curl behind his ear and tried to ignore the thoughts about Araine. He’d send her the photos today, and hopefully she would receive them as soon as possible. He hated not knowing how badly she was being hurt at home, physically and mentally. He remembered those nights, waiting to see if his father was going to strike out at her or just leave it. Frowning, the nice atmosphere ruined, Baz ran a stressed hand through his hair. Was it fair that here he was enjoying photography and a lovely day- when Araine was at home with a monster, being battered like she was worth nothing? Throwing his favourite photograph of a large eagle resting on top of a greenhouse roof to the floor in his frustration, he noticed a presence behind him and looked up. Just the person he needed to see.
