Harmony picked at her food for a while with a distasteful expression spread on her tired-looking face. She wasn’t feeling hungry, but she could feel fatigue creep up her slowly as yesterday night’s much needed sleep caught up with her. Maybe staying up late reading that book hadn’t been the best of ideas. Although she was trying to keep a smile on her face and maintain a relaxed composure, she could feel it slipping away slowly as tiredness and the annoyance came with it succumbed inevitably. People around her mingled as they ate and left, but all that Harmony could see was that spinning plate of food, bits of this and that laying strewn in front of her, uneaten, but completely mashed up in a rather dreadful state. As her appetite never regained itself, she hummed a tuneful melody under her breath, trying to keep herself awake.
”I hope you never lose your sense of wonder. You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger.”
Deciding she needed to desperately wake herself up, otherwise she would definitely fall asleep and not be able to attend lessons, which would be a disaster, Harmony picked herself up with a silent groan, and turned to leave, knowing full well she hadn’t really taken in enough food to last her the next few hours, but decided she’d catch up on that later. What she needed now was someone to talk to her, to keep her awake, but no one she knew was around. Rubbing her tired eyes in a bid to encourage them to last till the end of the day, she decided to head to the student lounge to perhaps find a friend and get them to keep her company and make sure she stayed alive for a few hours!
”May you never take one single breath for granted. God forbid love ever leave you empty handed.” Her humming never stopped without her realising, the song having been etched into her brain from listening to it too many times.
Harmony found herself outside the student lounge in less than five minutes, and somehow she had no idea how she had gotten there. Giving a low giggle at her behaviour, she entered the warmly lit room, halting her singing, and swung her head round in an attempt to see if there was anyone there she recognised. Unfortunately, the room was occupied by only one other person, a blonde haired girl Harmony knew was in the same year as her, and in Slytherin. She had sometimes seen her in lessons, but had never exchanged words with her, and didn’t know her name.
Disappointed, Harmony was tempted to turn and leave to try out another place, but decided against it. The warmth of the fireplace was really drawing her fatigued body towards it, and not resisting her needs any longer, she drifted silently for the sofa and sat down with a contented sigh as she felt the cushions envelop her in warmth. Knowing full well she would probably fall asleep, Harmony tried to keep herself occupied, and found herself staring at the other girl in the room. She didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable, so she quickly looked away, and glanced instead at the burning fireplace emitting its usual heat. The bright light reflected in her brown eyes as she gazed with a dazed expression into the flames, and as she tried her hardest to stay conscious, she kept hearing the same lyrics whirling round and round in her mind, but dared not utter them in case she disturbed the Slytherin…
I hope you still feel small when you stand by the ocean, whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens. Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance… Promise me…
