Kiana giggled to herself infectiously. She adored Beltane and everything that came with it. Maypoles, bonfires and the sharing of flowers. Kia batted her eyes at her reflection and laughed delightedly. Her hair was curled and pinned up into a waterfall of curls, some curls escaping from the pins and cascading down her back. Kia shivered at the feel of her hair tickling her bare back, almost regretting wearing a bare-backed dress. She twirled, watching the skirt of the dress rise and swirl about her legs. Kia grabbed the black jacket and slipped it on over the white dress, smiling at her reflection. The black was a direct contrast to the white of the dress. Kia grabbed some eyeliner from the jumble of make-up lying on her bed and applied it carefully, smudging it into the shimmering eyeshadow and repeating the process with her right eyelid. Tonight's celebration was going to be amazing, she just knew it.
Kia slipped through the crowd easily, attuned to the relentless moving of the people and adjusting her own movements to slip between them. Once outside, Kia sighed in relief. Crowds were great and she thrived on them but a crowd of that size was truly ridiculous. Kia picked a flower from her basket and twined it into her hair, the black rose standing out from her blonde hair. A friend of hers passed by and Kia exchanged a flower with her and promised to dance around the maypole with her later. But for now, she was content to just watch the festivities and join in later. Kia edged closer to the brightness and warmth of the bonfire, hoping to quell the shivers caused by the chilly night air. The warmth spread through her and Kia relaxed against a wall, absently joining in a conversation at times and throwing a flower to her friends as they passed.
Kia scanned that crowd intensely, looking for the girl she had planned to meet. Sarah was her dorm mate and one of Kia's friends. The two had planned to meet at the Belane celebration but hadn't specified a time or place. After all, they were bound to run into each other sometime. Kia tugged at one of her curls, feeling slightly lonely. Everyone else was standing in groups or dancing around the maypole or jumping over a bonfire but she was standing by herself. Ten more minutes, Kia promised herself silently, ten more minutes and then I'll dance around the maypole and join in the fun.

It was here!! Beltane was finally here!!! Getting on her baby blue dress and putting up her hair, Sarah was hurrying as fast as she could to get ready.'' Kiana is waiting , I know she is!'' Sarah said to herself. She was finally ready. She went down to the party and looked for Kia. '' Kia!!! Where are you ?''she yelled above the music.
Finally she saw a glimpse of her white dress. Sarah ran over there without running through groups. Sarah caught up to her. '' Kia ! How's the party? Come on let's dance around the maypoles!" Sarah said delightfully. This was her first Beltane celebration and it looked fun! She grabbed Kia by the wrist and ran to the maypole with her.

Kia sighed in quiet relief as Sarah ran up to her. The five minutes had almost passed but she had been reluctant to abandon her friend. "Sarah!" Kia hugged her in welcome and stepped back to admire the dress of her friend. Kia had kept her dress a secret, preferring it to be a surprise and in return had refused to see her friend model her dress. Thats what Beltane was about! Surprises and friends and love, for those with boyfriends and girlfriends. "You look wonderful. The blue really suits you. And the party is great. Everyone seems to be having fun. And of course we're going to dance around the maypole! But I think we should wait a while first." Kia flicked a glance to the maypole without real interest. She already knew what she would see. There was lots of people crowded around it and Kia just couldn't be bothered pushing through a crowd yet.
"Your hair looks wonderful. How long did you spend on it?" Kia reached out and tugged at Sarah's dark hair gently. Celebrations always seemed to bring out the best in most people as they rushed around and tried to get themselves ready. The end result was usually worth all of the stress and tears. Kia herself had dragged her father and sister through what seemed like millions of shops, paying no attention to their complaints and completely focusing on finding the perfect dress. "Why don't we visit some of the tents? Which one first, fortune telling or face painting?" Kia tilted her head as she waited for an answer, blowing a few stray tendrils of hair away from her face absently.

After being hugged almost to death by Kiana, Sarah gave her the same hug to. "I guess we should wait for the maypole. Let's go to face painting!!! I think you should have a.... sun on your cheek. What should I have on mine? Sarah was so exited. She never pictured Beltane as much fun as it looked. Sarah saw fortune telling tents, Maypoles, bonfires and much more that looked so exciting!! Sarah was wondering around and observing when group of Sltherins moved in. " Oh no . not this particular group!" Sarah thought in her mind. This was the group that her big sister, Wendy was in. " Hey !!! Wendy!! look who dropped by!'' One of the Slytherins said. Wendy came walking up in her dress that blended in with the bonfires and in her flaming red 3 inch high high heels. " Those look ridiculous on you" Sarah said giggling. " Uhh... did I say that out loud? " Ohh... you are going to pay BIG time for that!!!" Wendy said in a spine shivering way. " Have mercy!!!!!" Sarah yelled running away. Instinctively, her possy followed. The biggest one caught her and held her up by the wrists. " Come on I'm only .. ( grunting) a third ( grunting while trying to escape) year." Sarah said with difficulty.
Wendy came last. " Oh I'll have mercy on you once this happens!! Stupefy!" Wendy knocked Sarah out with a spell. " Help... m...." Sarah didn't finish her sentence when she lost consciousness. Sarah was dropped to the ground.

"A sun, surrounded by stars and a moon. I always get that on Beltane. My father arranged a special party when I was too young to attend Hogwarts and he does the same thing for my younger sister now. She'll be coming to Hogwarts soon too. I can't wait for her to come but at the same time I'm dreading it. She always gets into trouble and I'm worried that she might get into too much trouble, I guess." Kia grinned happily, remembering all the Beltane's and other holiday's she had celebrated with her family. "For you? ...A flame. I don't know why, it just seems like you." Kia shrugged sheepishly, unable to explain why a flame seemed like Sarah but drawn to the idea.
Kia lifted an eyebrow as a group of Slytherins closed in on them. In her three years at Hogwarts, she hadn't really had much interaction with the Slytherins and so she didn't hold any bad feelings against them. "Wendy? Oh, you must be Sarah's sister. Nice to meet you." Kia held out a hand politely, smiling at the girl warmly but immediately dropped her hand when Wendy started chasing her sister. Kia started to run after them, catching up to the group in time to see one of the bigger girls grab Sarah. "Let her go! What did she do to you except tell the truth? You do look ridiculous and anyone with half a brain could see it." Kia glared at the group, instinctively defending her friend with the courage and recklessness that her house was famous for.
Kia flicked her blonde curls behind her shoulder furiously, kneeling next to Sarah and checking her pulse. "Enervate." Kia grabbed her wand and revived Sarah before standing up and scowling at Wendy. "Expelliarmus." Kia reached out to grab the wand flying toward her as she disarmed Sarah's sister. "You can have it back later. When you stop cursing innocent younger pupils." Kia tucked the wand into her bag pointedly, her hand shaking slightly with fear. It was all very well and good to act brave but this group of Slytherins were older and a lot more likely to curse her than she would them. "Now go. And don't even think of bothering us again." Kia took the wand out of her bag and threw it back to Wendy, dismissing her and her posse before turning back to Sarah. "These bullies didn't hurt you too much, did they? I'm sure Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape would love to hear about their behaviour..."

After her world turned black and silent , Sarah heard something. Then she felt something.t was Kia shakeing her arm. " Ouch.! Stop.. shaking my .... my wrist... I don't think it's anything serious, just... just a big bruise." Sarah said still regaining consciousness.
" Oh my gosh is that how it's like to be cursed? And you still want me to buy that evil thing a present?" Sarah said opening her eyes. Sarah got up , but was dizzy. " let's go to face painting now. Before I get seriously hurt." Sarah said slowly.

Kia closed her eyes in silent relief as Sarah started to talk. Much to her amusement the first words weren't thanks or praise for standing up to her sister but a demand for Kia to stop shaking her arm. Thats gratitude for you. "A bruise. That all you got? I think that they didn't want to do you much harm then. They could have done so much worse if they had wanted to." Kia glared at the retreating Slytherins backs. She still didn't think that all Slytherins were bad but now she had proof that some were bad. How could a girl pick on her own sister? That completely went against the objective of family; family were meant to protect you, not hurt you themselves!
"Thats what its like to be cursed." Kia smiled as she affirmed her friends words. "I haven't been cursed myself, I don't get into many fights. But you look like you're in pain." Kia smiled helplessly, not knowing any spells to heal bruises. Eh well, bruises went away after a while, no need to bother Madam Pomfrey with them. "I don't know how to heal them. You'll just have to wait until they fade unless you want to ask Madam Pomfrey to heal them. I wouldn't bother really, they'll be gone almost before she heals them." Kia jumped forward to steady Sarah, her sharp blue eyes noticing the slight sway of her friends body. Sarah would undoubtedly be feeling dizzy after falling to the floor and Kia reminded herself to keep an eye on the girl. "Lead the way, then. Face painting it is."
Kia weaved her way through the crowd, heading for the face painting tent determinedly but still keeping hold of Sarah's arm. The last thing she wanted or needed was for her friend to get lost in the crowd or faint or run into Wendy again. Once was quite bad enough! Kiana twisted her curls away from her face firmly as the witch painted one cheek with the traditional blue pattern of Beltane and then turned so she could have her annual painting on her right cheek. The golden sun, silvery moon and clusters of shining, silver stars had always been Kia's choice for the face painting ever since she had been old enough to choose. "What are you going to get?" Kia grinned at Sarah, completely forgetting about the earlier run-in with Wendy and her posse in her excitement.

" You thought that was bad? She's even worse to me at home. She does spells to me that makes me get knocked back in to things. But it's not flipendo she uses. It's a curse that knock you back harder. " Sarah said giving Kia an idea of evil Wendy. " The worse thing is... she's obsessed with death eaters. It's terrible." Sarah said in a hoarse whisper. When they got to the face painting tent, Kia picked a design that she told Sarah she always got. " I'm going to have a.... white moon on one cheek and... the other a sun." Sarah told the lady who was going to paint her cheek. " Wow Kia that's cool!" Sarah said as she looked at Kia's cheek.
When they got out Sarah thanked Kiana for being there for her. While they were talking they bumped into the back of Wendy. " I'll stun her while you go by the fortune telling tent!" Sarah told Kia. " Go!!!" Sarah exclaimed. Sarah quickly stunned her sister and ran to Kia. " That was close!" Sarah said while catching her breath.

Kia winced at Sarah's description of her sister. Wendy truly did sound awful and Kia was just glad that her own sister wasn't like Wendy. Sure, it sounded selfish to be glad that she had a sweet sister but it was natural. Who would want a cruel sister? "Don't worry about her. Just enjoy yourself and try to have fun. She probably won't bother us again. Too afraid of us reporting her to the heads of houses." Kia chuckled, throwing an arm around Sarah in a friendly manner. Bullies, and that is certainly what Wendy was, usually backed off at the first hint of trouble and mentioning the professors should have scared her off for tonight, at least. So that was one night when Sarah didn't have to worry about her sister being mean to her.
Kia chuckled, flicking hair away from the paints on her cheeks. "Thanks. This is my favourite design. Not really unusual since I love astronomy. The stars are so fascinating and I always stay up late to watch them when I'm at home. Sometimes I can convince Dad to let my sister keep me company and sometimes he'll come out too." Kia smiled fondly as she talked about her family. Nothing in the world was more important to her and nothing ever would be. Her younger sister was an adorable little imp and Kia wouldn't change any part of her for all the riches in the world and her Father worked hard to provide for his daughters although he had a fair amount of money in Gringott's. Sometimes Kia suspected that he worked a lot to forget about his wife and Kia couldn't blame him. Sometimes she just wanted to curl up and forget that her mother was dead and had been for years.
Kia nodded in approval at Sarah's choice of face paint. "It looks good. Really cool and rather mystical. Extremely suitable for Beltane." Kiana yelped quietly as they literally ran into Wendy and sighed exasperatedly as Sarah stunned her sister, only watching long enough to see Sarah take out her wand before walking over to the fortune telling tent but hearing the quiet 'stupefy' behind her. Kia rolled her eyes as Sarah ran up to her and pulled her behind the tent cautiously. "If this gets back to any of the professors or the prefects then we'll be in real trouble, you know that? Dueling isn't allowed unless its supervised by a professor. If Wendy or her friends tell anyone about this then we'll be in detention for a long time!" Kia hissed the words to Sarah quietly, looking around for professors. Kia didn't mind getting into trouble, it didn't bother her in the slightest, but she knew that her Dad would be annoyed and upset. Now Kia and her sister had worked so hard to save their Father from upset and Kia didn't want to spoil it now. Especially since her sister had suddenly started misbehaving at home. Kia's dad just wouldn't be able to handle both of his daughters acting out and causing trouble.

Looking down at her watch, it said 7 : 00.'' This is suitable for beltane eh?" Sarah said after stunning her sister. " Don't worry, I also did a simple memory charm. They won't remember that we ran into her." Sarah said quietly. " Anyway, she'll do something even worse to me. ( whisper) Being a death eater supporter, she could even do one of the unforgivable spells to me." Sarah said dropping down to a whisper. " Well, since we're here let's go in." Sarah said while dragging Kia into the fortune telling tent. " Ouch! Don't bruises only hurt when you touch them? Maybe I sprained it." Sarah said while holding left wrist. " Maybe we should see Madame Pomfrey to make sure." Sarah said while looking down at her blueish bruises. " I do hope it is nothing serious" Sarah said to her self. (( Sorry its short, its 9:59 here I'll write more tommarrow))

"You did a memory charm? Do you know how dangerous those things can be! Get one tiny thing wrong and the person could lose every single memory they possess." Kia half-glared at Sarah angrily. A third year shouldn't be messing around with such dangerous spells, not even seventh years generally attempted it. Hopefully Sarah had gotten lucky and her sister hadn't lost every single memory in her mind. But still, it was a gamble and one that Sarah should not have taken. Kia would rather have gotten into trouble for dueling than for being an accomplice to an illegal spell. "I highly doubt that she would use one of the unforgivables on you. The Headmaster or one of the professors would catch her and she'd be put in Azkaban, probably. She wouldn't dare to risk it."
Kia allowed herself to be dragged into the tent before answering Sarah. "Bruises can sometimes hurt without touching them but just in case...Ferula." Kia flicked her wand and a bandage wrapped around Sarah's arm. A messily applied bandage but a bandage nonetheless, it should keep Sarah out of pain for a while. "If it still hurts tomorrow then go and see Madam Pomfrey and she'll have you healed within seconds." Kia grinned at Sarah easily, her anger over the memory charm fading slightly. Kia gestured for Sarah to go first, wanting to see if the fortune teller seemed to have a real talent or if she was just a fake. Fortune tellers weren't exactly reliable either but they were still a part of Beltane and for that reason alone, Kia accepted them and had her fortune read each year. "You go first, Sarah. Lets see what your future holds."
Kia waited for Sarah to have her fortune told to her patiently and sat down when Sarah rose from the chair. "Go on then, lets have it. What mystical things are in my future?" Kia rolled her eyes but smiled, she couldn't blame the woman for trying to make money out of Beltane traditions. Everyone else did, why not this woman? The woman chuckled and waved a hand over her crystal ball slowly. "I see a big surprise in your future...I can sense that you won't like it but someone very dear to you will be excited. You must hold back your anger for the sake of that person." The woman's words were dreamy but her dark eyes were lucid, showing that she wasn't in a trance. Kia laughed and stood up, trying to dismiss the words but unable to. What was this big surprise and why wouldn't she like it? "Thank you, that was extremely entertaining. Ready to go Sarah? Maybe the maypole has less people dancing around it now..."

" Kia, don't worry, my dad's an auror. He taught me that one in my second year. Anyway, it is very simple. Thanks for the bandages. It helps a little bit." Sarah said quite relaxed. They walked into the fortune telling tent. " Some one's going to be excited and I won't like it , eh? Well, who is it? Can you tell?" Sarah said chuckling up at the end.
Kia was next. The lady was waving her hands over the crystal ball. " You will meet some one. Some one that not only is your friend. Possibly, your future true love." the lady said in a mystical voice. " She reminds me of Professor Trelawny." Sarah said while walking to the maypole. " Oh no... my... my sister and boyf... friend!" Sarah said while getting quieter.
" Oh my gosh! I am not right, right? Please no. right . No...It's my eyes right? No it's not ..." Sarah said while fainting. Just think, if they get into a serious relationship it would not be good for Sarah. But, you could tell he was a Syltherin. Picking on littler kids, shoving people out of his way and loads of trash talk.

Kia looked at Sarah doubtfully but let the subject go for now. It wasn't Kia's problem if Sarah thought that she was powerful enough to carry out obliviation without messing up her sisters mind. "No problem. Ferula is an easy spell to cast once you've learned it. I have to use it on my sister all the time when I'm at home anyway so I'm used to it." Kia grinned distractedly, her mind still occupied by the womans prediction about her future. A big surprise...you won't like it...someone dear to you will be excited...hold back your anger... Kia tugged at one of her curls fretfully, the suspense and mystery was getting to her. For someone who claimed to not believe in fortune telling, Kia was extremely focused on the womans words. Something about them just rang true in her mind and she couldn't stop thinking about it. What was the big surprise and why would Kia be angry about it? She generally loved surprises and t took rather a lot to make Kiana annoyed, so making her angry was a big thing.
Kia tilted her head curiously at Sarah's words. "Your sister and boyfriend? Do you mean her boyfriend or yours? You don't have a boyfriend, do you?" Kia frowned slightly, not remembering any mention of a boyfriend but not sure about Sarah's meaning. Kia blinked in confusion and sighed as Sarah fainted. "Oh, not again. Last time wasn't exactly her fault I suppose but really, I'm getting rather bored of all the drama about her sister. So they don't get along, big deal!" Kia allowed herself a small rant as she knew that Sarah couldn't hear her before waving her wand and waking Sarah up. "Enervate. Now, do you want to tell me why you fainted?" Kia raised an eyebrow, her slow temper starting to bubble up. Not many things could get her annoyed or angry and Kia wasn't even sure what made her temper rise, but on the few occasions that she was actually angry, her temper bubbled over and exploded into a yelling match. Kia kept tight control of her temper, not wanting to argue with Sarah, but not knowing why she was angry put her at a serious disadvantage. If Kia knew exactly why she was angry then she could avoid it but she didn't and so she could only hope that her temper wouldn't start a screaming match.

Post by Professor Minerva McGonagall on May 13, 2006 16:52:58 GMT
((Sarah, do keep in mind that as a third year you most certainly can't use Stupefy and Oblivation spells yet becuase they simply wouldn't work. You can always ask from someone, or in Talk To Staff as to which spells might work for a third year.)) Minerva saw students waving their wands around and frowned disdainfully. She had been going to get herself a cup of tea but this had to be dealt with immediately. And to think that the girl was from her own house! This was not going to be tolerated! Minerva turned around and briskly made her way over to where the two girls had gone being just in time to see the one so foolishly waving her wand pass out. Minerva hurried over but by the time she reached the girls the other one had already awakened the fainted girl. “I am very disappointed in you two. To wave around your wand so foolishly! You could take someone’s eye out with that!” Minerva sent both girls a very stern glare looking from one to an other recognizing the students no at closer range. “I would have expected better from you miss Yin. See? You are bruised already. It is very vital that you learn to accept the responsibility that comes with the privilege of being able to use magic. That will be 15 points from Gryffindor.” Minerva turned and studied the miss Brightstar with a stern look too. “And I really hope you would have been able to prevent such foolishness from happening, miss Brightstar. I sincerely expect not to see any of this ever reapting itself, am I clear?” Minerva waited until both girls had voiced their agreement before leaving.

Kia bent her head in shame as Professor McGonagall scolded them. She was right to reprimand them and so Kia couldn't complain; Sarah had been foolish in her reckless casting of spells. All the same, Kia opened her mouth to complain about being blamed and told that she should have prevented the clash between the two sisters before thinking better of it and closing her mouth silently. Angering the professor more would do no good to either of them and would probably result in a further loss of points from Gryffindor. Kia sighed in slight annoyance, Gryffindor certainly wouldn't be winning the house cup this year. The loss of fifteen points didn't really decrease their likelihood of winning it but it brought the truth to the front of Kia's mind. They should have been more careful and Kia probably could have done more to stop it but sh hadn't been sure how. What could a third year girl do to stop a group of older Slytherins determined to attack another third year? Kia nodded slightly, determined to practice spells more often and gain greater control over them. Maybe then she could stop a situation similar to this one.
"Yes, Professor." Kia nodded slightly, assuring Professor McGonagall that she wouldn't be casting any spells. Not that she had in the first place. Kia glanced at Sarah bitterly, she had gotten them both into trouble and Kia hadn't even even done anything. Kia turned to Sarah after the professor left, barely holding back a scathing comment. "Professor McGonagall was right. And I hope that you're planning to get those points back for Gryffindor. We're already down on points, why did you have to make us lose more? For Merlins sake Sarah! Why couldn't you just stop to think about what you were doing for once?" Kia unleashed her rising temper on her friend ruthlessly. All thoughts of Beltane and celebrations were forgotten as Kia hissed the words to Sarah coldly. Her worries about her younger sister and her father channeled themselves through her anger, adding to the anger she already felt about losing points. "I think that Beltane is over for both of us. I suggest that you either go back to the dorm or find someone else to enjoy Beltane with because if I spend anymore time around you right now, then you will see the true extent of my temper."
Kia knew that she would regret her words in the morning but simply didn't care. It just felt so good to finally release all of her gradually built up anger, worry and stress. She pushed her blonde curls away from her face boredly, her temper already cooling but a heated glare still aimed toward Sarah. "Why don't you go talk to your sister? I'm sure she'd love to see you." Kia smiled sweetly, tilting her head toward Sarah's sister and her friends. Kia knew that Sarah wouldn't be welcomed over there but that was why she said it. To make sure Sarah knew that Kia wanted her to leave.
((I'm sorry Sarah, its nothing personal toward you. Kia is just really angry and her worry about her family is just making her anger worse.))
