A very blond Cassandra straightened the black bow in her hair as she looked at herself in the mirror. " Yes, perfect," she said to the empty room. The blue dress, white stockings, and white apron made her look exactly who she wanted to, Alice in Wonderland. I just hope Liam likes it, Cass thought to herself. She had no clue what he was wearing, but she was pretty sure she had let it drop that she was going as Alice. Smiling at herself one last time, she put the Angelus crest around her neck and headed into the common room. Cass' black mary jane heels clicked against the stone floor as she raced down the steps. Since her mind was elsewhere, she had totally forgotten about the broken step that was the fourth from the bottom. It had been there the first day she arrived at Hogwarts, but she had learned to skip that step when going to class. Unfortunately for her, she stepped into the large crack that spread throughout it and took a nasty tumble down the stairs. Cass screamed as she fell, and she hit the floor with a rather loud thud.
Looking up from her prone position on the floor, she saw several underclassmen pointing and laughing. She flushed and bit her lip. Then, she realized what all the laughter was about. Cass' skirt had flipped up over her head, but, as luck should have it, she was wearing a small crinoline underneath so it didn't show anything. Cass could only lay in embarrassment for a few moments, letting the younger students laugh at her.

As Liam stood in front of the full length mirror, he tried to remember how his costume was supposed to look. Not growing up in the muggle world, he did not know exactly how the character he choose to be looked. Liam did manage to get a picture of the character by owl from his aunt. Glancing at the picture every few moments, Liam made sure that he had the proper hat and clothing for the costume. Pressing down the collar, Liam began to wonder why he choose to be the Mad Hatter from the muggle story Alice In Wonderland. He didn't exactly like being dressed in a costume so outrageous, but what was worse was he had to do something with his hair.
With a simple charm, Liam tapped his head with his wand, and his hair grew a little ways and turned white. Sighing, Liam placed the hat on his head before checking himself in the mirror once more. Happy that he had done his best to make the costume acceptable, Liam exited the boys dormitory and walked down to the common room before disappearing out of the portrait hole. As he walked down the stairs, Liam heard somebody scream near the bottom of the stairs. Rushing down the steps, Liam soon found a group of younger students pointing and laughing at somebody who was laying on the ground.
Pushing through the crowd of students, Liam soon saw Cassie laying on the ground with her skirt over her head. As he walked toward Cass, Liam called to the students, "How about all of you get out of here. There is no reason for you to be laughing. Go on, get out of here." Once the last of the younger students had disappeared from sight, Liam offered his hand out to help Cassie to her feet. "Are you alright?" Liam asked as his hand was held out.

“Oh my god! I’m such a klutz!” Cass cried as she took Liam’s hand. Cassandra’s face was a deep crimson, and her eyes were wet with tears. She was mortified of what just happened. “Thank you, Liam," Suppressing the urge to hex the younger students, she got up and began to adjust her clothing in the long mirror in the common room. Her heart was soaring because Liam had protected her from the younger student’s taunts, and those things made her feel special when around him. Cass adjusted the black bow in her hair and smoothed out the wrinkles in her blue dress. She then took her wand and siphoned the brown stains off her white apron.
“Let’s get out of here. I’m sick of the stares.” Cass grabbed Liam’s hand and pulled him out of the common room. They had made it down three flights of steps before they were stopped by a gang of Cass’ friends. The girls all complimented each other on their costumes while their dates looked on bored. The group soon disbanded and they were back on their way to the Great Hall. “Sorry. You know how it is. Us girls always have to get a chance to gossip. By the way, I love the costume. You got it exactly right.” Cass looked Liam up and down. Not only did he have the white hair and the large hat that were characteristics of the Mad Hatter, but he had the large card that displayed a fraction prominently displayed in the brim.
Cass continued on. “I’m really glad that you came with me. I sorry that I was so bold, but I honestly thought you were never going to ask me out. I had been hoping you would ask me to come, but I was really starting to get worried.” They neared the doors to the Great Hall. Cass hesitated before she opened the doors to enter the party. “ I hate to say that I am a bit nervous, but I am. I hope you don’t mind two left feet.” Cass smiled coyly.

"You are welcome," Liam replied as he helped Cass to her feet. Liam kept making sure that none of the younger students had managed to come back and stare at Cass. He didn't like the way that the younger students were acting, he thought that for sure they would have learned some manners and respect by now. After all, they were Gryffindors, not Slytherins, they should know better than to act the way they were.
Liam followed Cass out of the common room. He had no choice but to follow as she was holding his hand, and he wasn't about to let go of hers. After they went down three flights of stairs they came to a stop and Liam began to look around at the other boys who were waiting for their dates to stop talking to one another. He never could understand how girls were able to talk so much to one another when they knew they had people waiting on them. But Liam didn't mind, he was going with the prettiest girl he knew to the ball. "No worries," Liam replied with a smile. "Thanks, I wasn't sure how it was supposed to look. All I had to go on was this picture my aunt sent me."
"I was actually planning on asking you about the same time you asked me," Liam replied. "Its just I was looking for the right time to ask you."

Cass smiled for what seemed like the hundredth time for the evening. God, how could she be so lucky? " Really? You were? That is so funny. I guess I beat you to hit, huh?" People were beginning to stream into the Great Hall. The bright costumes clashed against the dark walls and lights that were illuminating the area. " But, honestly, is there really a good time? I'm really glad that you came though. I hope...well, I'm not sure what I am hoping honestly."
Cass led Liam into the Great Hall with the throng. She hardly recognized anyone in their costumes. Honestly, though, wasn't that a good thing? This would give everyone a chance to socialize without the whole house stigma hanging above their heads. Seeing several couples on the dance floor, she looked at them longingly. She wasn't a good dancer, and she knew it. Of course, it was always nice to be swept away onto the dance floor. However, she didn't think Liam would do such a thing. He was so reserved, and that drove her crazy. She so wished that he would just do something totally unexpected, but what, she had no idea. Hearing snickering, she turned to see two girls she knew were Slytherins pointing at them. Suddenly embarrassed, she dropped Liam's hand and looked away from the Slytherins. " Um, it looks like we are already attracting attention." She pointed to the girls that had found their arrival so funny.

"Yeah really. I was going to ask you when the moment seemed right," Liam replied. "I guess you were just quicker on the draw." Liam watched as all the students began to file into the Great Hall. Many were dressed in brightly colorful costumes that clashed with the dark Great Hall. "I don't know if there is a right time for anything. But, I have to believe that there could be a right time."
Liam saw several couples already on the dance floor. He had never been that great of a dancer, but he was good enough to get by when he needed. Liam wondered to himself he Cass wanted to be out there dancing with him. Liam was about to take her out to the dance floor when he felt her let go of his hand. Liam looked at the Slytherin girls Cass had mentioned. Liam stared at the girls with disgust in his eyes. Turning back to Cass, Liam said, "Come on, lets dance."

Cassandra felt Liam take her hand and lead her out the dance floor. She was upset now, and it showed. For some reason, things like that always effected her. She had always been susceptible to people's thoughts because she so badly wanted to impress everyone. When she came to Hogwarts, she had to be just as good as all the pureblood wizards. When she found out she was pureblood, she had to be just as good if not better than all of them. Cass went through the movements, but it seemed like all the life had been sucked out of her. She was upset now, and it showed.
Trying to start up some kind of conversation to take her mind off her bruised ego, she looked up into Liam's eyes. However, what did people talk about while dancing? " Um, I really had fun the other day. You know, at Mom's house and in London. I think it was good for us, getting out of this castle and what not. Honestly, I was surprised that you did go to London. You've always been a bit reserved. I never expected you to jump to do something like that."
