An unusually icy fall breeze swept through Kaila's long dark hair, as she leaned against the bark of a willow tree near the lake. A pile of books lay strewn about in a patch of leaf covered grass at her side, pieces of parchement sticking out of their binding. Kaila had just spent an entire afternoon completing her homework by the bank instead of hanging out in the common room with her friends like she normally did. It had been a dreary day, with hardly anything but stormy clouds, and her homework had eaten away her time so quickly if felt as though she'd only hopped out of bed an hour ago. The sun had finally begun to escape its place in the gloomy sky, and the atmosphere was growing steadily darker around the Hogwarts dewy grounds.
Kaila sighed, and pulled the sleeves of her grey fleece sweater down over her forearms. Third year was a lot more difficult than she had anticipated it to be, and homework seemed to be consuming more than half of her usual down time. She glanced at the watch on her wrist as her stomach began to rumble with hunger. It was nearly 5:30. She hadnt eaten much all day, and a nice hot dinner in the great hall sounded very appealing. She gathered her books up into her beige messanger bag, and stood, brushing herself off. Kaila hadnt seen her twin sister Misty all day, but the thought of postponing dinner even longer to go and search for her in the common room made Kaila's stomach grumble even louder. Misty hadnt come down to dinner now the passed four nights in a row. Kaila wasnt sure if she was just missing her everyday, or if she wasnt even eating. It worried her slightly, becasue they hardly talked anymore. Not at all like they used too. But her stomach gave another uncomfortable rumble, and she knew she could ignore it no longer. She decided on just going to eat, and hoped that maybe Misty would already be there, waiting for her, although her twin telepathy (which had been quite disfunctional lately), told her she would not..
As Kaila entered the Great Hall, the smells of roasted beef and mince pies wafted through the air and over took her senses. She could hardly wait to sit down and stuff her face with the feast that awaited. She scanned the many heads seated on both sides of the Ravenclaw tabel, and was dissapointed to find that her sister was not amoungst the students already eating. She brushed her hair back and hurried to the closest empty spot, anxious to get something in her stomach. Kaila dropped her messanger bag on the floor and slid herself in between a girl she had never seen before, and a girl she only knew by passing on her right. It almost seemed to good to be true to have finally finished all of her work, and to be infront of a table full of food, although Kaila couldnt help but worry about why Misty wasnt at dinner again. With a sigh, she turned to the girl on her right, gave her a smile of greeting, and began helping herself to a large portion of roast beef and gravy.
