Vanessa was running late. Later than usual. Which, granted, wasn't unlike Vanessa; but she was never really this late. Not like this and certainly not when she had class. She bolted up right in her four poster, the curtains blowing softly with the breeze from the opened window. With one swift motion, Vanessa pushed back the comforter and stood, placing her feet on the cool wood. A yawn escaped her as she made her way to the shower, once showered and dressed, she grabbed her rucksack and hurried out of the room. Normally, she would stop at the Great Hall and get something to eat, but she was running too late to do that at the moment. One look at her watch told her just how late she was. She had already missed two classes./ She was going to be uber late for Astronomy and Professor Miller was never nice with house points if you were late to her class. Shaking just a bit, Vanessa continued to rush toward the Astronomy classroom; stopping just as she reached the door. Vanessa collected herself and opened the door, expecting about twenty heads to turn her way.
But the classroom was empty. The chairs were not occupied and there weren't forty eyes staring at her. Vanessa dropped her bag and stared around the classroom blankly. Oh, no! They're outside, it's worse than I thought! She bent down to retrieve her bag when the door to Professor Miller's office opened and she stepped out, holding papers and a pen. The older woman looked up just as Vanessa stood with her bag back on her shoulder, "Miss Bauer, whatever are you doing here?" She asked. Vanessa looked around once more. Confusion obviously written all over her face. Wasn't she supposed to be here? She waited for the Professor to answer her own question, saying something like she was so late she didn't hear the instructions the students were supposed to be outside as she ran into her office to retrieve some papers. But none came, so Vanessa decided to speak up and ask her own.
"Uhm...aren't I late for class?" Miller smiled as she set the papers down and leaned against the desk. It was something the professor seemed to do often and Vanessa often wondered if it was something she was aware she was doing. Vanessa found herself quite nervous even with Miller's soothing smile, Mill was always rather intimidating even if she was smiling. She was a pretty woman, but scary as well. "Miss Bauer, it's Saturday." Vanessa's jaw dropped and she rifled through her bag, pulled out her planner. Quickly, she found the date, and she suddenly felt rather stupid. She sat down in the nearest chair. Professor Miller smiled again and sat down beside her, "I'm touched that you rushed to my class once you realized you were late, even though you needn't have." Vanessa smiled softly as she palced her planner back into her bag. She felt rather foolish and a bit upset that she had allowed herself to believe it was a school day. How stupid could she be?
Vanessa stood from the table and ran her fingers through her damp hair, "Thanks, Professor. I'm going to get some food now that I am able to." Miller smiled and nodded just as Vanessa left the classroom. She walked down the corridors this time. When she reached the Great Hall, she realized it must be a Hogsmeade weekened with how empty it was. Vanessa sighed and was about to head over to the Hufflepuff table when she spotted a familiar Ravenclaw. She sat down beside Jasmine and reached for her friend's toast she hadn't taken a bite of, "Happy Monday!" she greeted, although it was indeed a Saturday.
((God moding of Professor Miller was approved.))
