Rayne shouldered her bag and walked out of the classroom. Once again she'd gotten a perfect on her charms assignment. Rayne hated having to go to class when she already knew the material. She could do half the stuff the teacher was trying to feed the rest of the class with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back. At first it was cool she loved that she could skip a week of class come back and still be ahead but lately it had become really boring and not to mention she'd been getting into a lot of trouble for it. She'd had one teacher accuse her of teaching, some of her classmates were mad that she was doing better then them and she'd even had one kid rip up a three foot essay the day before it was due. Rayne pushed those depressing thoughts away and made her way outside to the courtyard. She needed to be in a good mood because today she was meeting Rachel only this time it was willingly.
Rayne had decided after the Room of Requirements disaster where Rachel had started crying Rayne decided she needed to make things right. So the night before she had sent an owl to Rachel asking her to meet her in the Courtyard by her favorite fountain. When Rayne arrived at the fountain she noticed Rachel hadn't arrived yet. She really hoped that Rachel wouldn't stand her up after all she was going through a lot of effort to try and strike a truce with the girl. It would be really upsetting if she blew her off. Rayne sighed and took out her sketch book. The least she could do was finish her sketch of her favorite tree while she waited for the other girl to arrive.

Rachel looked at her watch and then cringed. She was late. Only by a few minutes, but she didn't want Rayne to leave. She had been wanting to talk to Rayne ever since the Room of Requirements breakdown. Although it was embarrassing, Rachel was also kind of glad it happened. If it hadn't, perhaps Rayne would not have asked her to come today, and maybe Rachel wouldn't have realised it was time to go back to who she once was. Reaching the courtyard, slightly out of breath, Rachel spotted Rayne immediately, sketching in her book. Quickly taking out a compact mirror to check her appearance, she nodded in satisfaction. Rachel paused for a moment, her heart racing. This was it. "Hi Rayne," she said softly, as she walked up to Rayne.

Rayne jumped slightly but enough so to dump her sketch book on the ground. Rayne gathered her book and the loose leaf papers that had spilled out of the front up and stuck it in her bag. Rachel was only a few minutes late but it didn't take long at all for Rayne to get absorbed in her work. And she had indeed been so absorbed in the drawing of the tree that she hadn't heard Rachel approach so Rachels voice had completely startled her. Rayne blushed as she closed the flap on her messenger bag. She felt like an idiot getting so jumpy over a meeting she had asked for. Pushing those thoughts aside Rayne got up off the ground and sat back down on the Courtyard fountain.
"Sorry I got distracted." Rayne said smiling sheepishly as she pushed the hair out of her eyes. Looking up at Rachel she motioned to the bench next to her. "You can sit down lo... errr Rachel I promise not to like curse you or bite or anything."

Rachel smiled awkwardly before taking a seat next to Rayne. "Thanks. I've been meaning to speak to you for a while now," Rachel began, smoothing down her skirt. She cleared her throat. "But you should go first. I mean, you're the one who called me here," she laughed. She still didn't know exactly why Rayne had called her, but even if Rayne did get revenge, at least Rachel had been given the chance to apologise. She looked up at Rayne and gave her a small smile. "Thanks for asking me to come here today," she said.

Rayne smiled as Rachel sat down. At least Rachel didn't completely hate her something Rayne was surprised to find out she would be upset over. Rayne fidgeted a little as Rachel mentioned wanting to talk to her too but felt like Rayne should go first since she sent the letter. Rayne took a deep breath and plunged ahead. If she was going to do this she might as well do it now and get it all out as fast as possible kind of like how you rip a bandaide off as fast as possible so it won't hurt as much.
"Yeah I just wanted to say I'm sorry I was such a wench when we first met. I realise now I was being kinda catty at you and that probably didn't help your opinion of me. I'm sorry I changed your necklace to a ribbon and cursed you and tried to hit you even though you totally won that fight. I'm sorry I called you out in front of Ender and let my predjudices get in the way of letting him make his own opinions of you. I'm sorry I seperated us in the Room of Requirements and maybe had a part in making you cry." Rayne realized she was rambling on and stopped. She turned to Rachel holding her breath she wondered if Rachel would accept the apology or throw it in her face. If she did the latter at least Rayne had tried.

Rachel looked at Rayne in surprise, her mouth open. Then, realising, she closed it quickly. "Rayne, I don't know what to say. I honestly don't. Other than, you really didn't have to apologise, because you have done nothing wrong. Who interrupted you during your dinner with Vlad? Me. Who interrupted you becoming friends with Ender? Me. Who insulted you, baited you, made you want to curse me and hit me? I did. I manipulated Ender a lot more than you did so that he would want nothing to do with you, and everything you said about me was true. Everything Vlad said about me was true. And I understand why you separated us - it was the only way to stop me from starting a fight with you. And the reason I was crying had nothing to do with you. Well, it kind of did, but it had nothing to do with what you did. I have some stuff I need to sort out, and one of them is to apologise to you. I have been awful to you ever since we met and I am so sorry," Rachel said earnestly. She had been wanting to say this ever since the day in the Room of Requirements. "I know forgiveness is a bit of a stretch, but I just wanted you to know I am sorry, and it'll never happen again," she said, lowering her eyes. She hoped Rayne would forgive her, but wasn't holding much hope. She had been brutal. But at least she was apologising, something Rachel hadn't done since she was seven.

Rayne who had been fidgeting with her hair the entire time Rachel had been speaking stopped. She was shocked. Had Rachel just apologized to her and claimed responsibility for the rough time they'd been having when in a room together? Rayne couldn't believe it. She had asked for this meeting expecting to either be forgiven or have her apology thrown in her face. Never in a million years did she expect to be apologized to. Once this realization hit Rayne she berated herself for having the thought. HOw could you expect to be forgiven if a part of you thought that the other person would be a wench about it. In truth you really couldn't if you were truely being sincere about an apology you couldn't think that the other person would be a sleeper about it or it wasn't a true apology.
Rayne twirled a piece of hair around her finger, a nervous habit she'd had since little, trying to think of something not cheesy to say to Rachel. Letting the piece of hair drop back into place Rayne looked at Rachel. "I accept your apology even though I honestly do think I could have done more to be a better person about it all. In fact I know I could have been a better person. If I were really a good person I wouldn't have worked so hard to turn Ender against you. I wouldn't have been so mean our first meeting. So since we both seem to think we're at fault want to call it a truce and we forgive each other?" Rayne picked up the piece of hair she'd been playing with since they first started talking and began playing with it again. She really hoped Rachel would forgive her. Maybe with some time even try to be her friend.

Rachel smiled in relief. "Yes, absolutely. Truce. I forgive you, even though I don't think you have anything to be sorry about," she said, smiling. She was so relieved, she had never in a million years expected Rayne to call a truce. "Thankyou, Rayne," she said earnestly. Who knew? Maybe one day they could even become friends. Although she knew that might be stretching things a bit, she still had a lot to make up for. But maybe someday. And hopefully that someday would be soon.
