Her fingers worked rapidly on the keys. Her anger and frustration escaping through the tips of them. Her brown eyes, which were usually jovial, were now glazed over with anger. Finishing up the quick intro, Vanessa transitioned; "She'd do anything to sparkle in his eye. She would suffer, she would fight, and compromise. She's been wishin' on the stars that shine so bright for answers to questions that will haunt her tonight." She continued to play, skipping over the chorus. It was a song she played ofen when she was angry. It was a good stress release, and oddly enough - Vanessa seemed to know a lot of those. "She must rinse this all away, she can't hold anybody this way, she must rinse this all away, she can't love him. And if she runs away she fears she won't be followed. What could be worse than leaving something behind? And as the depth of oceans slowly become shallow. iit's loneliness she finds... Iif only he was mine." Her heart and soul flew from her as she sang and as she played, as her fingers danced on their own over the ebony and ivory keys. It didn't matter that the percussion and the guitar was missing from the piece, it was strong on it's own without the back up instruments. The music was all in her head, and what she sang flew around the room and back into her ears. "She'd do anything to sparkle in his eye, she would suffer, she would fight, and compromise. She's been wishin' on the stars that shine so bright for answers to questions that will haunt her tonight." By the time she was nearly finished with the piece she was cooled down a bit. She finished the song, and then there was silence. Thick and suffocating silence. Vanessa closed the lid to the piano and breathed deeply, her head laying on top of her arms which were resting on the lid.
And they came. Like pouring rain on a sunny day. The tears of stress, of worry. They came unwelcome to her world to what was her happy week. The only thing she had to look forward to was the weekend with Jeremiah, but amidst all her stress she hadn't thought of that - or of using her own screaming technique. She was swamped with homework and couldn't get away at all. It had only been moments ago that she decided to skip dinner and play. And now that she thought about it, there wasn't much else she could do. Her stress would eat at her stomach unless she did something about it. Vanessa sat up and took another deep breath. She wiped at her eyes and collected herself before standing and leaving the room. She would have to find it the next time she felt like playing, and she knew that it would probably be in the next couple of days or so. That brought a small smile to her face. The idea that she could always have the piano to lean on. With one last look at the black piano, Vanessa closed the door and started down the corridor toward the main entrance. Once there, she pushed them open and ran toward the edge of the forest. She stopped a couple of feet away from the actual edge, and looked up at the looming trees. They were all so large, so intimidating. Vanessa sighed, realizing that it was stupid to think of trees as intimidating and closed her eyes. "Where did it all go? All of the laughter and the smiles? How is that something so small as classes and tests can make them disappear like smoke from a candle?" Vanessa spoke in quiet tones, as if she were questioning the trees themselves. She even felt like she expected an answer. When none came she grew even more frustrated, "Why can't I be that carefree girl I used to be?! It was only two days ago when I was laughing and smiling and joking around with Jeremiah! Where did that all go?! Who made it alright for people to destroy others by the way of stressing them out or driving them nuts?!"
Was she a fraud? A complete fake? She was someone else completely when she had spoken with Jeremiah, and now she was someone who couldn't even keep her studies under control. Did that mean she was a fraud? Someone who didn't deserve to be friends with someone as nice as Jeremiah was? No. It was possible to be loose and fun and carefree when you were with someone and then be someone completely different when you were alone, right? Yes. But would that make you a liar if you tell them that you could handle anything by taking it out on the trees? Vanessa's head was starting to hurt, but she was certain it was from all the thoughts and not the yelling. She lowered herself to the ground and layed back. Looking up at the sky and the crows as they flew over the purplish grey sky. It was pretty, and very relaxing. She watched the sky for a bit and then closed her eyes. "Everything is so different when you're nearly ready to enter the real world. Everything is so much more terrifying. How do they do it? How do they cope? How will I cope? Can I cope?" Vanessa sighed as yet even more questions streamed through her head. Couldn't she just shut them up?
