Tempe walked down the slope towards the lake. Hardly anyone was outside. Oh, well she was by herself, even though she did want some company. She had asked Anna if she would meet her down by the lake, and Anna had replied saying that she would if she could. Tempe hoped she would because she hardly ever got to see Anna, since they were in different years and houses.
Tempe had two essays due and while she was waiting on Anna she thought she would start on at least one of them. She slumped down by one of the beech trees and leaned against the bark. She pulled out her essay on the Werewolf for Defense Against the Dark Arts. As she started on her essay, she thought she saw Anna coming down the slope towards her.

Anna sulked down the hill toward the lake, there she saw Temperance, or Tempe as she preferred to be called. Tempe had asked her to come down there as they never saw each other. Anna was so tired, and she had lots of homework to do.
"I wonder why she wanted me to come down here, why not somewhere else," Anna thought out loud. She didn't really care if others thought she was weird, she had friends and that is all that mattered to her.
"Hi!!! What did you want me to come down here for? I mean I do have a lot to do you know," Anna teased, the homework could wait, and she did really want to see Tempe. As she waited for Tempe's reply she watched fish flip through the air and then plop back down into the lake, at least maybe their day was going better than hers.

Yes, it was Anna, she was sulking down the hill, why was she looking so disgruntled? Tempe really wanted to talk to her about something and maybe they could help each other on their homework.
"Oh, I needed to talk to you, and want some help on her homework?" Tempe asked, while staring at the lake, even though it didn't look like she was paying attention she truly was.
As she waited for Anna to reply she stared into the forest and she thought she saw a sparkle of white flicker through the woods. She sat up straight and looked right into the woods. Was that a unicorn, you rarely saw them that close to the edge of the forrest?

"Help on homework, oh you flatter me, but yeah that would be great. What is it you want to talk to me about?" Anna said in a anxious voice, " was that a unicorn in the woods?" Anna asked, she had looked into the forrest since Tempe was looking there, and she saw it, the beautiful brighter than snow white, the gleaming horn, it had to be a unicorn.

" Oh, I just wanted to talk to you about Rus, you know my 19 year old brother," Tempe replied, then Anna mentioned the unicorn, and Tempe said," oh, good you saw it too, I thought I was going crazy."

"Well you know how my dad disappeared and my mom was murdered, well Rus sent me an owl saying that he heard from dad by telephone, he said that dad said to back off trying to find him, because you know how I've been looking for him when I'm with granfather. It just worries me, it makes me feel like Rus and I are in mortal danger and it just worries me a lot. I wish Rus told me more but he wouldn't," Tempe explained, "but enough of that, what's wrong with you? Bad grade or something?"
Tempe truly wanted to know what was wrong with her, because she was being super gloomy.

"That's terrrible, I can't believe your dad doesn't want you to find him, you should write Rus and tell him to tell you everything. Oh, yeah I got a Troll on my Potions essay," Anna replied.
Poor Temperance, she thought, she must feel terrible and it being Christmas Eve and all, I have to do something for her, but what?

"Do you want to go to Hogsmeade or do you want to stay here, and just take a walk around the lake? Because I'm up for both," Tempe said.
She stared up into the sky, everyone was sending owls to their relatives, she only had her grandfather, and that really wasn't a comfort, he had only taken her in because no one else would.

"Um, let's go for a walk around the lake, maybe we'll see the giant squid, or maybe a mermaid," Anna said.
I know what I'll do, I'll throw a party with all her friends, but first I'll have to ask the professors first, thought Anna.

She and Anna began walking around the lake, "Anything in particular you want to talk about?" she asked Anna.
