Katy bit the top of her quill as she turned the page of the charms book. She just had to find that one special sentence that will clear up her confusion, and finally finish the last couple of lines of the essay. Her body position was beginning to get quite uncomfortable, but she didn’t move until this essay was completed. One half of Katy’s body was on the floor, and the other half on the bed. It was comfortable for the first thirty minutes, but now her legs were beginning to cramp up. Running her fingers over the words in the book, her eyes never left the page. “There we go! Ugh it was right under my nose!” Katy mumbled under her breath as she began to scribble down words on the parchment. Closing the book shut on her lap and putting it back into her shoulder back, she than put the essay out on the bed, waiting for the ink to dry. Resting her head on the hard ground, she leaned crocked it to the side, her blue eyes staring out the window. Tiny droplets of rain slide down the glass. It looked like the rain had stopped completely. Why was it raining so close to December? When was it going to snow? A shiver went up Katy’s spine at the thought. She hated winter. It was too cold and wet for her liking.
Averting her eyes from the window, she rolled her head around in a small circle wincing at the loud cracking noises. The huge mountain of homework was stressing Katy beyond belief, not even to mention OWLs were coming up around March or so. Sighing at the thought, Katy stretched her leg and arms out and rolled over on her side. Taking a break sounded like a splendid, relaxing idea. Standing up from the floor, she than began to change out of her uniform. Pulling on a pair of long grey sweat pants under her skirt, Katy just left the skirt one, too lazy to even take it off. Poking her head through the blue long sleeved shirt with snoopy on it, she than also pulled on her favorite sweatshirt. Taking out a blue hair band, she pulled her hair up into a simple bun and bolted out of the common room. She should be warm enough for a walk around the grounds. After all, going to the library or student lounge sounded boring and safe.
A rush of cool air passed Katy as she made her way out onto the grounds. Her shoes sunk into the wet grass with each step. The smell of rain hung in the air, and everything was quiet. Well who would want to be outside right now? After walking a long ways, Katy noticed someone in front of one of the trees. With raised eyebrows, she made her way over toward the person. A huge smile appeared on her face as she noticed it was Myka. Slowly creeping up behind her friend on her tipsy toes, she bit the side of her check from making any sound. Jumping on the girls back and covering her hands over Myka’s eyes, she spoke in a deep man voice. “Guess w...” before she could even finish, Katy squealed as the two toppled over on the ground, her hands still covering Myka’s eyes. Maybe jumping on her wasn’t a smart idea.

"Make me a willow cabin at your gate, And call upon my soul within the house; Write loyal cantons of contemned love And sing them loud even in the dead of night; Halloo your name to the reverberate hills And make the babbling gossip of the air Cry out 'Olivia!' O, You should not rest Between the elements of air and earth, But you should pity me!" Myka sat back, lowering the book to her crossed legs, resting her head against the bark of the tree, and closed her eyes. Shakespeare was amazing. Myka loved his works. She had read almost everything written by him, but so far Twelfth Night was her favourite. She wasn't quite sure why, but it made her think about a lot of things. Which was what she was doing after she had read her favourite speech. That's how she was when the first rain drops started to fall. Myka opened her eyes and looked up at the overcast sky. Setting the book inside her rucksack, Myka jumped up from her place and ran out into the open so the tree wasn’t covering her anymore. Her grey and blue plaid knee length skirt and white long sleeved dress shirt were messed. Her Ravenclaw tie loose around her neck, her sleeves were rolled up to her elbows. Her jet black hair was down and not styled, so it reached her chin. Over all, she was still in uniform but was rather relaxed.
The rain began to fall a bit harder, Myka put out her arms at her shoulder and spun in a circle, a peaceful smile on her face. Her white dress shirt was almost soaked all the way through when she sat down underneath the tree again. she smiled to herself, happy to have done that. It was always refreshing to dance in the rain, even if it meant getting a cold. Myka took out her wand and flicked it, a towel appeared. She put it to her soaked hair and rubbed vigorously, trying to drive off her hair. She could have just used magic, but she didn't want to completely dry it. It would just get wet on her run back into the castle. She placed the towel over her shoulders, and pulled her book back out. The tree was making a good enough umbrella for the time being. She could read for a few more moments. She lost herself in the story, and didn't realize someone had come upon her until she felt them on her back and their hands over her eyes. Oh, and the fact that they both toppled over. Before Myka guessed who it was, she put her hand up and covered Katy's, she gently held it for a moment and then pulled it away; turning to look at her friend.
"What are you doing? Playing in the rain?" Myka smiled.

Katy laughed out loud as her body toppled to the ground with Myka's. Before she could even apologize, hands covered her own eyes, blinding her from everything. A smile still stayed on her lips as she regained her sight. "Oh no, I was just merely trying to play leap frog. Unfortunately, if I didn't make it over, you’d be knocked out completely," Katy said as her eyes glistened mischievously. Repositioning her self so that she was sitting on Myka's back, Katy crossed her legs and rested her elbow on the top of her knee. Looking down at Myka with a toothy smile she spoke. "Actually, I was cooped up inside the dorm room finishing an essay for Charms. I just can’t wait until this year is over with.” That was the hard core truth. Katy couldn’t wait for her fifth year to be over with. Noticing that her friend’s hair was stringy, and wet, she began to mess with it some more. “I see you’ve been having some fun out in the rain,” she said, moving her fingers through her friend’s hair and shaking it at the same time. “You look like a poodle,” Katy giggled as she began to try to make her friends hair more straight, and the way it was before.
Sliding down off of Myka’s back to the ground, Katy rested her head on her friend’s stomach. Her grey pants were already beginning to get soaked, but that really didn’t matter. Noticing a book near by, she picked it up and set it on her lap. “Twelfth Night by Shakespeare,” she whispered curiously opening the pages of the book. Her fingers ran over the tops as she shimmed the words. “I didn’t know you liked Shakespeare. To me, it can get rather confusing. It sounds like a bunch of proper words in jibbersh sometimes, and in other times the most romantic thing ever written.” Turning her head to the side to look at Myka she smiled. “What’s this play about?”

Myka smiled as Katy explained what she was doing out. When she felt the girl on her back, Myka closed her eyes and listened to her chatter. Then she felt the girl's fingers in her hair and Myka couldn't help but laugh at her poodle joke. She was about to flip over and tackle Katy to the ground, but she had already gotten off. Myka turned onto her back and sighd as Katy layed her hea on her stomach. Myka reached up, almost subconsciously, and played with Katy's golden hair. It was rather pretty and Myka found that she liked the feel of it, even when wet. Myka's fingers wove their way through Katy's hair as Katy looked through her book. When she asked what it was about, Myka turned her head so she could see Katy, her fingers still threading themselves through her hair. "It's about a woman who disguises herself as a man to find work. This woman meets another woman, and the second woman known as Olivia finds herself falling in love with Viola, unbeknownst to her that Viola is indeed a woman. Soon, Viola in disguise is challenged to a duel." Myka paused and smiled softly, "It's a rather good read, and you might like it." She continued to run her fingers through Katy's hair as she spoke the next thing:
"Make me a willow cabin at your gate, And call upon my soul within the house; Write loyal cantons of contemned love And sing them loud even in the dead of night; Halloo your name to the reverberate hills And make the babbling gossip of the air Cry out 'Olivia!' O, You should not rest Between the elements of air and earth, But you should pity me!" There was a pause after she recited it and then she looked back at Katy, stopped running her fingers through her hair, and sat up. Katy's head fell into Myka's lap, and Myka laughed lightly - pushing a strand of hair out Katy's eyes. She bent down and kissed Katy's forehead, and before the girl could say anything about it. She grabbed her hand and pulled her up, "Ever dance in the rain?" She sent Katy a sly smile.

Katy closed her eyes as Myka ran her fingers through her own blond hair. A small smile curled on her lips. No one besides her father and brother was ever this gentle with her. When she was young, her father would play around with Katy's hair, twirling it, or just running his fingers through it. Now that Katy was older, he never did that, and she missed it. What was weird to her was that how could Myka be the only person who was so gentle with her? Everyone else she dated did nothing like this with her? Maybe Katy didn’t let them in like she did for Myka. Was she starting to like this girl? Taking a deep breath to end the thoughts, Katy listened to everything Myka had to say. Maybe this play wasn’t all that bad. It had to be better than Romeo and Juliet and probably a somewhat good ending. Yes, Shakespeare was trying to get the point out that family feuds ended badly, but he could have at least left Romeo and Juliet alive. The play wouldn’t be called a tragedy is death never took place. Disney movies were just a bit better on the fact of happy endings.
“Does the play have a happy ending?” she asked when there was silence between the two. The monologue seemed more sad than romantic. When Myka stopped running her fingers through Katy’s hair, she opened her eyes. The older girl moved aside a strand of her blond hair, and than kissed her forehead. Before Katy could have time to recall what was happening, Myka pulled her up from the ground, and asked if she had ever danced in the rain before. Smiling Katy nodded her head and spoke, “Yes I have by myself....but not with some one else.”

"For the most part. Viola and Olivia do not end up together, but it is a rather happy ending." Myka answered, a thoughtful smile on her face. It would be ridiculous if they had ended up together, considering the time that Shakespeare was alive. Such a thing was unthinkable. Even now some people thought it was disgusting. Myka sighed, and returned to the present. The rain was still falling, but it wasn't pouring. And it was getting rather cold, but Myka didn't feel it. She didn't mind it, if she did feel it. She was happy, and that warmed something up inside of her. Myka led Katy out into the open area, the beach of the lake. "Well, it's about time we change that, isn't it?" She raised an eyebrow and a sly grin crossed her face. Myka gently led Katy's hand to the proper position. She put her own hand gently on Katy's hip and then spoke, "Ever dance the tango?" And without waiting for her response, Myka took the first step - only forcing her to take a step back. She led her in the tango, being completely guiding. It wasn't a complicted dance... at least not the tango she was doing. But it was rather fun.
Then, without warning, Myka spun Katy out and then melted the step from the tango into the waltz. With a smile on her face, Myka finished the dance. "Is it better than dancing on your own, Katy?" She asked in a whisper.

“Let me guess the ending,” Katy began to say, her blue eyes staring off at the lake. “They both end up with a guy, and forget everything that happened to them before.” Watching as the rain drops made ripples on the lake’s surface, her mind began to play another one of her hopeless romantic tricks. What is the story was turned around? What if Shakespeare made another lesson in one of his plays, which taught not to judge people? Looking back at Myka with a small smile she let the older girl lead her out toward the shore. “How do you think the story would end if they did fall in love with each other?” she asked when Myka took her own hand, resting on top of the girl’s shoulder. Katy only knew just a few simple dance techniques for the tango. Modern and the Waltz was more of the dances that she was learning. Before Katy could get a warning, Myka began the dance.
Following to the best of her abilities, Katy smiled happily at Myka. There weren’t clouds of stars at their feet, but that didn’t stop her from imagining that there were. She than was spun out from her partner and the dance changed into the Waltz. When the dance ended Myka asked a question. “Yes it is. But only with someone you know and care about,” Katy whispered back returning the same sly smile. “Now, we can dance some more, or play around in the rain like were five year olds again. Well, scratching the fact that we aren’t making mud castles and eating it later.”

"Well," Myka replied, "I suppose they were in love, before the secret came out. After all Olivia did marry someone who she thought was Viola. But when the secret came out, they went their seperate ways. You'll need to read it to understand it. You can borrow it if you wish, I've read it enough times." She smiled brightly at her friend. When they were done dancing, the rain still falling around them, Katy brainstormed playing in the rain instead of just dancing in it. Myka nodded and turned around, looking for a large puddle. She found one, and ran toward it. Once she came close enough, she leaped up and landed on her feet, crouched, in the puddle. Laughter escaped her lips as she turned around to face Katy. She ben down and splashed her friend, although the water didn't reach nearly far enough. She stood up and smiled softly at Katy, before walking over toward her. They were close enough to wade into the lake, but Myka had other plans. Taking hold of Katy's arms firmly, she started to push her toward the lake.
Laughing, she spoke, "You thought of it. Playing in the rain. Playing in the lake is just as..." the last word she had grunt out because she was throwing them both into the lake, "fun!" With a splash they hit the water. Of course, they didn't go down too far, but they both went under the water at least. When Myka broke surface, she was holding on to Katy's arm a little bit gentler now. She waited until Katy was above the water, Myka laughed at the sight of her. She pushed some of Katy's blond hair out of her face, but it stuck to the sides of her face. "Now, you've danced in the rain, have you ever swam in the rain?"

Katy watched with curiosity in her eyes as Myka ran away from her. Where was she going? Laughing as the older girl jumped in the puddle, Katy took a couple steps closer to her friend. Jumping in puddle sounded quite fun, what harm will it do? She was already somewhat soaked from the rain, but Myka was in her uniform. Gasping as her friend splashed some water at her. It didn’t reach that far, but it still splashed her somewhat. “What was that for?” she asked, pretending to look quite shocked. Glaring playfully at Myka as the girl walked toward her and took hold of both of Katy’s arms; she noticed that up to no good look in her friend’s eyes. With wide eyes as Myka began to pull her closer to the water. “Don’t you even dare think about it Myka Young!” Katy said digging the bottom of her hells into the sand. Of course, Myka had other plans and throw them both into the lake.
Squealing as her body dove into the icy cold water, Katy made a metal thought to get back at Myka. Gasping for air as her head reached the surface; she heard laughter come from her friend, and the touch of her hands that moved her hair away from her face. Rubbing her eyes from the salty water, she glared at Myka. “No I haven’t and there’s a logical reason why. Cold plus water equals the possibly of getting sick. Catching a cold right now is not the best idea. So if I get extremely sick, you’re doing all my homework.” Katy said, pouting. There was silence for a few moments before Katy started bursting out laughing. After all, it was her idea to play in the rain. Myka just came up with the idea of swimming in the lake.
Wrapping her arms around Myka’s neck, her body still shivered from the cold. Leaning in closer to her friend’s ear she whispered softly into it. “Catch me if you can!” Adding some pressure too Myka’s shoulder, she dunk the girl and than began to swim in the other direction toward the shore line.

She was about to reach out and wrap her arms around Katy's waist, exclaiming, 'Gotcha!' But before she could do anything, Katy dunked Myka under the water. Luckily, she had taken a quick breath before being dunked so when she resurfaced she wasn't gasping for it. Myka rubbed her eyes and then opened them, seeing a retreating figure. Without hesitating, Myka started after her. She was at Katy in moments, and reached out. She grabbed the girl's ankle and pulled her toward her with such force it caused a wave to occur. She dropped Katy's ankle and grabbed her hand, swimming out back to the deeper parts of the lake. All the time, Myka had a large happy smile on her face. When they were far enough away from the shore, Myka let go of Katy's hand and swam behind her. She gently wrapped her arms around her stomach and laughed lightly before whispering in her ear, "Want to do something that relaxes me?" She smiled, and got a stronger grip on Katy before stating to swim in a circle.
Slowly, she went from Katy's stomach to her upper arms, and then finally - Myka was only holding her hands and gently at that. She continued to spin Katy in a slow circle. Myka spoke to her softly as she did this, and her right hand was playing with Katy's right hand. Just running her fingers over Katy's palm and dragging them up over her fingers and off her finger tips. It was something Myka did often, but not with as much feeling as she was now. "You know, Katy. Being gay is nothing to be ashamed of. No matter what people tell you. Don't keep it a secret for too long, or it'll be harder to come out when you feel it's time to."

Katy’s arms made slow strokes in the water, and her feet kicking as she tried to reach the shore line. Taking a peek over her shoulder she noticed that Myka was right behind her. Why couldn’t she be a fast swimmer? The sandy shore was almost in distance, but hands grabbed at her ankle dragging her back. A wave pole formed around Katy as Myka took hold of her hand, swimming farther out. Standing on the tips of her toes, she pouted at her friend. That wasn’t much of a chase. Soon, her pout disappeared melted into a smile as Myka put her arms around her stomach, whispering lightly into her ear. Nodding her head at the words, the surroundings began to vanish, until it was only just Myka and her. Smiling as Myka began to swim in a circle, Katy closed her eyes, leaning her head back on the girl’s shoulder. This was relaxing and exactly the thing that she needed.
Feeling Myka’s hand trace her own, Katy tried to remind herself that Myka was only just a friend, nothing more. How could she tell herself that if she wanted more? Finally giving in to the urge, she slipped her fingers in the caress of Myka’s giving the girl’s hand a squeeze. Opening her eyes at Myka’s words, Katy than began to outline the lines of the girl’s hands. “I don’t feel ashamed anymore, thanks too you. It’s just the part of everyone knowing scares me. The fact that everyone won’t want to be around because they think I’m diseased or something frightens me…” she said taking a deep breath, her fingers tracing’s Myka’s. “What am I suppose to do? Scream out in the middle of the hallway that I’m gay?” Katy finally let go of Myka’s hand and sighed.

Myka allowed a small smile to grace her face when she felt Katy slipping her fingers in between Myka's. She didn't fault though, and continued to spin slowly in a circle. Her smile grew slightly as she felt Katy trace her palm, it was calming and Myka liked the feel of it. Katy had rested her head in the nook between Myka's neck and shoulder, and Myka rested her head against the top of Katy's. They would have made quite a sight. When Katy replied, Myka was silent for a bit. And then, without thinking, she kissed the side of Katy's head, just above her temple. "If they think you're diseased, that's their problem. It's not as rare as it used to be, and you know, love is love. Nothing can change that. You can't help you love, or who you like. I can tell you one thing for sure," Myka sighed and squeezed Katy's hand, "I won't stop hanging around you because you're gay. I would be a hypocrite then, won't I?" She sighed and, still holding Katy's hands, wrapped her arms around the girl so they were both hugging her.
"As for what you would do, just don't deny any rumors. It will get out soon enough. But, don't do it just because I'm saying you should. Do it when you feel good enough and comfortable enough with yourself. And once you do, we'll go celebrate in Hogsmeade." Myka tilted her head so she could see Katy and gave her a large smile.

Why did this have to be so complicated? Life was confusing as it was before; just being gay added even more confusion. Luckily Katy had someone too help her through this and find herself. That someone who she was beginning to like more and more as every day went by. Katy closed her eyes, a smile curling on her lips as Myka kissed her forehead. Resting her back on the girl’s shoulder she listened to her words. Myka was right as usual. Love was love, and you had no chose of who you loved. Opening her eyes once more she stared at the water. Myka held her hand again squeezing while saying reassuring words. “I hope you would never want to avoid me for any reason. Your…” she suddenly spoke, cutting herself off early. Watching the rain drops fall into the lake, Katy sighed. She wanted to say more. She wanted to tell Myka that if she hadn’t met Myka, than her world would just have been this whole web of lives. The people would be the spiders and with each lie created a new thread that would wrap around Katy ready to be eaten.
Katy closed her eyes again, feeling Myka pull her in a hug telling her to accept all the rumors that would go around about her. “People honestly don’t have anything else better to do than try to figure out whether or not that I’m gay,” she said, her voice clearly showing annoyance. Without even thinking, Katy dropped a thankful kiss on her Myka’s check and whispered in her ear. “Thank you. I will try my best.” Breaking free from Myka’s grasps, Katy took her hand and began to swim toward the shore line. “We should get inside and get warm before we catch anything.”

Myka smiled as Katy kissed her cheek and whispered in her ear a thank you. She followed the girl toward the shore, that smile still on her face. When they reached land, she rung out her skirt and shook her head. Water splashed off her hair and laughed, as it hit Katy. Myka grinned and went to pick up her backpack and book. She placed it inside her bag and put her leather backpack on her back, before walking back to Katy. She linked her arm with her friends and started toward the castle. “Well, what you said about people having nothing else to do but figure out if you’re gay or not, it’s true. Your life will always seem far more interesting than theirs. It’s just the way the world is. They’ll want to know why you seem so happy and they aren’t nearly as happy as you are, so they’ll try to figure out what is different between you and them. The only thing they’ll be able to think of is the fact that you are gay, you are abnormal. They’ll spread rumors, and soon it will be out. It’s the way the world turns.” Myka smiled reassuringly at her and opened the door, letting Katy enter before she did. The warmth was quite welcoming, but Myka still shivered as she closed the door behind them. She continued to walk toward the direction of the Hufflepuff common room. What type of friend would she be if she didn’t walk Katy to her common room?
When they reached the portrait, Myka stopped walking and turned to face her friend. They were the only two in the corridor, and the candlelight was dancing across the walls and Katy’s face. “Well, this is your stop. You should get in and take a shower, wouldn’t want you to catch a cold.” Myka smiled a bright smile and turned to leave; she stopped and stood there for a moment. And then nodded, as if making up her mind about something. She turned around quickly, grabbed Katy’s arm and pulled her toward her. Placing a soft and gentle kiss on Katy’s lips. Myka pulled away and smiled, “Goodnight, Anthy Himemiya.” And she turned on her heel, leaving Katy to stand there. But not alone. There stood a girl behind a pillar, who had seen everything.
