((If you'd rather not have it Open, Carlin, tell me, and I'll change it. ))
It was getting darker much faster now-a-days. Kitty was a daylight sort of person. She basked in sunshine, she played under the star. It seemed she would be under different stars now. Not that she minded them; in fact, she was fascinated by the night-time stars. The different constellations and their history was a thing of wonder to Kitty. She only knew the Big Dipper and Little Dipper though and she was always having trouble locating them in a sky full of twinkling lights. Sometimes the way they continuously flickered annoyed Kitty, especially when she was trying to sleep outside. At home, it had been particularly difficult to handle, especially when it got stifling hot and nasty outside.
Since it was Fall, the temperature outside was just right. Warm with a slight breeze. Jackets would be smart though, just in case it decided to take a drastic drop and freeze the pants off everything. Kitty looked around at the Grounds. Some people were retreating back to the castle already, but others were waiting for the wonderful light-show; otherwise known as the sunset. Kitty loved watching the sunset, but that wasn't why she was staying outside, nor was it because she was an outdoors kind of person. No, she was staying for the stars. They seemed to draw her in like a magnet when she was inside, so why even try to hide from them? Besides, she did like the light show and was an outdoor person, so what could it hurt? She just had to be careful to get in before curfew, but that didn't worry her. It hardly ever did.
She meandered the Grounds for a little while, waiting impatiently for the light show to begin. So far a light pink was beginning to appear over the horizon but that was it. Nothing major yet. Sighing, Kitty kicked a clod of dirt into the clear waters of the lake. The splash revibrated against the shores dully as a murky cloud spread in a circle. Kitty watched it for a few moments before turning to one of the most visited trees on the Grounds - the big willow over-shadowing a slight cliff over the lake. The ground underneath it was currently vacant so Kitty walked over to it, though her intention wasn't to sit underneath its shading branches. No, an idea had struck her suddenly, a very interesting, yet amusing, idea. She didn't even doubt whether she should do it or not - she usually didn't think about her actions. Pulling out a piece of crumpled up parchment from her pockets, Kitty smoothed it against the rough tree bark (which in the end didn't help the poor paper much) and took out a quill that didn't run on ink. Magic was brilliant.
Feel like seeing the stars? Looking up at Mars? Come to the hill-top over yonder where we can all wonder what it would be like to see the stars anywhere but under. Bring some friends or maybe even some lens so we can stare at the those brilliant lights during these expanded nights. Be prepared to have fun, even if it isn't under the sun. Look to the hills, be careful of chills, and watch for red, which will signal which way to go ahead.
Satisfied with her work, Kitty used her wand to make copies and then posted the note on the tree. She spent the rest of her evening putting up notes on every tree in she came upon, looking forward to the night excitedly. Even if only one person came, it would be better than sharing the fun alone. As long as no boring Prefects came, or Professors even. Kitty would probably get in before curfew ended, but she could never be too sure about these things. Humming a little tune to herself, Kitty went to her next problem: Finding an appropriate hill. It had to be flat-like on the top and rather high up from the ground. It also had to be rather far from the castle, just so they didn't attract any unwanted attention. She circled the grounds, finding nothing to her liking. She ended up back at the very same willow tree that had started it all. And about twenty yards away was another cliff, much bigger in height, and the perfect place for this whole adventure. Grinning happily, Kitty laid down in the lush grass, letting it tickle her cheek and rustle through her hair.
When finally the sunset did come with its brilliant light show as expected, Kitty shot a red spark into the sky, which revolved there for a second before falling to the ground like a lone firework. She watched its progress for a few moments, but then turned her attention back toward the Grounds, hoping to see someone approaching.
((Whoa, a little longer than expected, but it's all good! ))
