Well, we're adding two new elements to the Quidditch game. Both of them will take effect this game. The first is the adjustment to the rules for the Snitch which I already posted up in Owls for Quidditch Players. The second is the Man of the Match idea proposed by Theo in Talk to the Staff.
New Snitch Rules
These are designed to make games a more uniform length, which we hope will make things fairer for players working towards their experience points, and stop games from being frustratingly short or tediously long.
If the Snitch is seen in the first week (first seven rounds):
- The Snitch gets an 'Early in the game' bonus of +10 instead of its D10.
So the rolls would be:
Seeker who saw Snitch (D12 + Dex)
Other Seeker (D10 + Dex)
Snitch (10 + D4)
- This still gives a small chance of the Snitch being caught - by either Seeker - but they'll need to get a pretty good roll and have a strong Dex score. It is more likely that the Snitch won't be caught, at which point we go to rolling numbers between 1 and 10 for the Snitch. So the game shouldn't be made too long by the Snitch not being caught early in the game.
If the Snitch hasn't been caught by the end of two weeks:
- Each Seeker gets two Snitch rolls every time they search successfully.
- Any Seeker who posts but is unsuccessful in their search roll (either because not enough Con or because hit by Bludger) still gets one Snitch roll.
- The idea of this is just to speed the process up... because no one likes a dawdling Snitch!
Man of the Match
This comes from Theo's suggestion (see here). Thank you, Theo!
From this match (Ravenclaw vs. Slytherin) onwards, you will be able to vote for the person you consider to be the 'Man (or Woman) of the Match' - the player who has shown the most effort and/or flair/ who's contributed most to their team. Becoming Man of the Match won't count for anything more than recognition for your effort in a particular game... but you will get your name put up on a list for posterity.
Here's how it will work.
At the end of each game, the captain of the winning team will send 3 nominations chosen from their team members to Madam Hooch. The captain of the losing side will send 2 nominations, chosen from their team members, to Madam Hooch. Once the captains have sent their nominations, the options will be put up as a poll in General Thoughts. All members will be welcome to vote (once only as per usual, regardless of number of characters)! The poll will stay open for a week, at which point the winner in the poll will be declared 'Man of the Match'.
Any questions, please PM or even better post in Talk to the Staff in case other people have the same question.
