Plot Summary:
He never thought he’d meet her there; a lousy compartment in the forgotten zone at the back of a rumbling train. Everything about the way she reclined – so leisurely – in that secluded cubby made him want to join her. He slid open the door and looked at her, clearing his throat to make his presence known. Her voice was indifferent. Nevertheless, he could dream right?
The train shook, lurched, and rocked. She was afraid of trains. The trunk above her encouraged her into the seat next to him. He didn’t complain. The conversation was more friendly now, when she wasn’t frantic about the machine. Another moan from the engine. She grabbed his hand. He didn’t complain.
He was on edge. His nerves shook him like the unsteady steel monster beneath him. She was doing this to him. He liked it. She calmed down and let go of his hand. He was even more nervous now, this didn’t seem right. The train groaned and gave another jerk. He took her hand again. There, that was right.
“So you’re not scared.” Was his simple explanation.
“Thanks.” Was her simple reply.
He admired her as they talked. She was beautiful. It was her smile and her eyes that pulled him in though, they trapped him....
Mackenzie Holden - superstar - had given up on love and all it entailed. After breaking up with her boyfriend of three years, she had decided that relationships just weren't worth the trouble they gave. She had decided to focus on her music career, but even that seemed to be followed by a crash course in love disaster. She didn't think she could escape the drama that her life seemed to attract. Imagine her surprise when she met him.
Alexander Promise - dreamer - wrote about the love stories that others dreamt of and that he, himself, dreamt of. Never having been in a relationship of his own, he wrote those things that he wished he had. With a talent that Alex seemed to hold, it was no wonder his head was in the clouds. It wasn't too surprising when he came down from the clouds one train ride and tried to make a believer out of a non-believer, though.
Fast forward a few months - it's a Mackenzie Holden concert in Scotland, a concert she had given him a ticket to, a concert she walked off stage on, and a concert she resigned after. It was also the concert that brought the two together and it was the concert that gave them a reason to be able to be together. Somewhere down the road, they fell in love with each other; and while they were rather active in their physical intimacies, they never lost the love they sparked in each other.
November 5th, 1999 - Alex proposes to Mack and she accepts, easily. They have no intention in believing they are too young for this type of thing, but little do they know what kind of curve balls life was going to throw at them.
December 25th, 1999 - Mack tells Alex something important, something that will change both of their lives forever. Now, are they too young for this? Or can they do it? And if they can, will it have the negative change Mack fears it will or will it have a positive change she dreams it will?
Threads:
Solitude or Not. – The Believer and Non-believer meet for the first time and an instant attraction is formed. Mack realises she's never felt this way about someone and Alex realises he can't go another year without seeing her. It ends with a kiss on the cheek, a whisper, and a concert ticket.
What To Say? – Mack, having invited Alex to one of her shows, quits her job and walks off the stage in the middle of a concert only to spend the rest of the evening with Alex, furthering their relationship, and finding a place to stay over the summer hols.
The Grand Tour – With a grand tour that includes griffins, the ocean, and ends with a bedroom - how could Mack hate her new residence at the Promise manor? Not only that, but Alex shares with her the story he wrote on the train ride...the story she inspired.
Summer of Surprises? – How long can you go without saying "I love you" to someone before you go to sleep? For Alexander Promise it's approximately two to three weeks, but that's okay - because Mack is completely ready to say it right back at him.
What Is And Never Should Be – Nothing is scarier than an older sister who wields the power of...well...an older sister. Dixie Holden, Mack's older sister, and Alex meet for the first time and discuss the blossoming relationship that seems to be gaining speed with no intention of slowing down. In many ways...
I Don’t Know If I Should Stay [PG-13] – PG-13 MATERIAL. There's nothing better than memories you don't want to forget. At least, that's what Mack thinks - especially at times when she and Alex lie in bed holding each other, talking about "the good old days;" which aren't better than the "good new days."
Stolen Goods – What do you get when you add two best friends, a magical creatures book, and time? Alex and Kennedy talking about magical creatures, relationships, and homework banishment.
An Unexpected Friend - Minus the girly shriek Kennedy accuses Mack of having, this night turned out to be rather eventful; what with a litter of kneazles and all.
The Beauty of September Skies - Take a sunset and two lonely Ravenclaw prefects and you get a situation that any teenage girl in love can blow out of proportion.
Take A Breather - Whoever said Slytherins got along better with each other obviously never met Mack and Valmer in the same room together.
Playing With Fire - At the celebration of November the Fifth bonfire the school holds, Alex is in charge of running a booth with Kennedy. The night takes an unexpected turn when Mack lets her jealousy get the best, or worst, of her.
First Day of My Life - With a question like this, you better believe Mack's going to forgive him for anything he might....or might not...have done.
