Hopefully the title and poll question says it all. We want to know whether you want to add Quidditch points earned in our Quidditch games to the House Points displayed at the top of the home page. I'd like to encourage everyone to vote in the poll - the result will play a major role in deciding what we do, although it won't necessarily be final, especially if the results are very close. Please also, if you are happy to do so, post your reasons for your vote below and make your opinions known.

The version of Proboards that we're using now has quite a few fancy new features and I couldn't resist trying them out. So... this poll will lock automatically in 7 days time from now (Thursday 20th December). The poll results will only be visible once the poll has been locked. I don't know if that's good or not, but it's not something that we could do before so I feel like testing it out. Please only vote once, no matter how many accounts/characters you have. We will monitor this - it's very inconvenient if you do vote more than once so please just don't do it. Another new feature is that you can now retract your vote if you want to, and then can cast a new vote if you have changed your mind.

For and Against:

For:
- It's canon that Quidditch contributes to House Points.
- Anyone posting in Quidditch puts a lot of effort into it and it would be nice if this was reflected in the House Points.
- Back in the day... with the old Quidditch system, we used to add Quidditch points to House Points.

Against:
- There aren't nearly as many points earned from classes/duelling club and so on as are earned in Quidditch, so the winner of the House Cup might be determined mostly by the winner of the Quidditch Cup. Perhaps we ought to keep the two Cups separate.
- Although it's canon that points from Quidditch do contribute, our Quidditch system isn't entirely canon in the results it produces.
- The new Quidditch system might not be ready yet to start using the points it generates.

I vote no. The Quidditch game that we play on this site is determined completely by luck. In all the games that I have participated in, it does not matter how well or poorly the Chasers do, the game is determined by the Seeker. That is generally true in the books too (except the Tournament in GoF). Then to catch the Snitch is also pure luck. If the dice are with you, you'll catch it.

Earning points through classes requires effort and thought. Now don't jump on me and say that there is no effort or thought in the games because I have players on all four teams. I know that it takes some effort but I also have been extremely frustrated by random factors of chance that were out of my control. August's stats in the last game were something dreadful like 1-2-1. He could not save a single goal. No matter how much effort I put into the posts. Lady Luck was against me.

So, as our Quidditch games are based on chance, My vote is no.

I agree with August on this one. Though it's nice to earn House Points through Quidditch and not just classes there is no real fair way to do it with the system we have established.

*jumps on August* What you say is a really good point, but since you reminded me that I like jumping on people virtually (and I feel hyper) then it still won't save you from being jumped on.

Thank you for expressing your opinions and making such good points, August and Josephine! I think what you say is true - that the system we have is never going to reward all effort equally as regards points/match outcome. I'm hopeful that Adam's idea for the Quidditch Skills Cup will reward effort more equally and not be quite so reliant on chance.

I must admit that even though our quidditch games are purely based on luck. (and no Julian didn't throw the game, I had internet problems over the last week) If it's canon for quidditch points to be used toward house points as well, then I'm all for it. Leave it to me to want to stick to something canon since I know the Maps plot isn't really so.

Haha ;D We will discuss this in staff, so it should be in the Important Notice section soon.

Side note; we already talked about this but... *rolls eyes at proposition 8* so offensive!
