Thanks to certain new medias writer's all over the U.S. have decided to ask for more money to make-up for these new media's on which the results of his or her writing is being put on. Producers have denied such needs and at 12:01am this morning writer's have taken up their posts outside of big studios, Rockefeller Center, and in other major studio places to begin their strike for more money. As such, all television shows, movies, and talk shows will be taking huge loses for the writers strike. Jay Leno, David Letterman, and other late night talk shows will immediately go into reruns starting TODAY. Saturday Night Live and other improvisational shows are also expected to hit reruns starting now. Daytime TV, soap operas, will also begin reruns as soon as they've aired all the shows they have scripts finished for. Prime time TV is expected to take some of the biggest loses in which as big as show as Heroes, Lost, Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, Law and Order, etc., will finish up the few scripts they have stored away and will then be put on hold until the writers return. There hasn't been a strike of this degree since 1988 in which all writers walked out. It lasted 22 weeks and cost the studios $500 million dollars. No news on how long this strike is going to last. For information about which shows will be affected I've provided a link below. The TV Grid

Wow... that's quite interesting. Thanks for the info and the link, Ruby! It just goes to show how valuable good writing is for society and the media that is a result. I know that I will be disappointed as it affects some of the shows that I watch, but the writers are probably not given as much credit as they deserve. Granted, they are probably already filthy rich, but I'd say I support their cause.

I understand Ariane. I'm obsessed with Supernatural, been the reason why I've been gone for so long, I RP on a Supernatural board...several actually. So I'm ticked. Not to mention I don't know what I would do without Supernatural, Stargate: Atlantis, Heroes, and my late night tv show hosts.
But...I'm not angry with the writers.
Ryann I don't know if they're filthy rich, but the thing is that writers only get pennies from the sell of DVD's. They get no compensation for movies or tv shows that get put on iTunes or other such internet sites. It's why they're trying to get more. They hardly get any profit from the sells. Frankly I'm standing behind them 100% I just wish the darn producers would get their act together and give them the money they deserve.

*sighs* Yeah. Sucks. But can't blame them either, hm? They do deserve the money, I mean... what they write is fantastic. On another note... *mourns the loss of Stargate SG-1* HAH! It beat Star Trek as the longest running ever Sci-fi series, Izy! Woo! Go Sam and Jack!

-raises hands in victory- YEP LOVE STARGATE SG-1!! And I so hate Star Trek (Careful. Be very very careful.), so I'll dance around in joy to the fact that it ran 10 seasons, though I must say I did cry at the end. At least Sam has moved to Stargate: Atlantis, the only reason I watch it really.

Really? They moved Sam over? *grins* Good for her. I loooooved Sam. And Daniel. Teal'c was funny too, and Jack was just classic. *sighs happily* SG-1 forever. Ditto for Atlantis, hopefully.

I heard that it's really only the shows like The Daily Show and such that run off recent events that are being affected at the moments. Most sitcom and what not type shows have enough scripts in stock pile to last them into the new year so as long as the strike ends by then everything should be fine. This is just what I heard on the news, though. I personally don't know as I hardly bother with television. Looks like Kid Nation and Weeds aren't even being affected so... I won't notice the difference

Daily shows are being affected the most right now. They're the ones that rely heavily on guild writer's so they're already in reruns. But not all late night shows have scripts in stock pile and if they do they aren't allowed to change the scripts or revise them. So in the beginning most late shows aren't going to be affected by when they run out of their scripts they will. This strike is expected to last a long time, both parties are pretty persistant on their sides. And the last one lasted 22 weeks, so I don't see this one lasting any less than that. We'll start seeing old TV show reruns soon as well as 15 year old daily talk shows. That's what happened in 1988 at least.
