Okay, we've had the book in our hot little hands for about 12 hours. I'm about ten chapters.
Any thoughts?

I've just reached chapter thirteen. ((You all know the drill. Spoilers? You bet. So highlight. )) Well, last year, I was thoroughly upset with Jo for killing off my Dumblydore. And now she's gone and killed my Mad-Eye? Silly Jo. Honestly, I was very upset. Mad-Eye? Dead? It's inconceivable! *sighs* But I guess that's just the beginning of who all's gonna end up dying, eh? That sucks.
Let's see.. Kreacher has officially become my favourite house elf. Poor little guy. I felt so bad for him when he was telling his story about Regulus and now he's being all nice to Harry (though I really don't think he deserves it *smirks*).
I'm jumping from place to place as I remember what I liked and disliked about the first twelve chapters. So let's see... Bellatrix's humiliation in the first chapter about Tonks getting married to Lupin was funny and yet I was a bit upset because I do love Bella.
Speaking of the newly-not-so-happy married couple! Can you believe the way Lupin is acting? I mean I suppose it's understandable with the whole werewolf thing but saying his marriage to Tonks was a mistake? Honestly. Harry was right to yell at him the way he did... of course I don't think he should have called him a coward, but I knew that Harry was just trying to get him to forget about joining them on the search for the Horcruxes.
I must say, though, with the first twelve chapters - there haven't been any really funny scenes. I mean, there was when Scrimgeour was questioning the Trio about Dumbly's will and they were being really sarcastic, that was kinda funny with the whole Gryffindor's sword thing... but it's not like last book with Luna's commentary, you know? Of course I am only twelve chapters in and I do know it's the last book (EEP!) so it's going to be a bit more serious... but still...
There isn't much I wanna talk about plot wise yet. There's the locket with Mundungus... hmm but I just.. have no opinion on that. Then there's Snape being headmaster! Haha. That's great! Snape as headmaster - hey Izy, maybe we should make Headmaster on site! *smirks* Just kidding, just kidding. Voldy can fly, we all knew he was super talented though... hmm what else? Talking patronuses, Ministry of Magic falling to Voldy, torturing Ollivander *shakes her head and thinks* There's plenty of stuff in there that makes me wanna throw the book. Anyone agree?((Edit upon further reading (chapter 23 now). Highlight to read spoilers.)) Well, Ron's a moron and selfish. Leaving Harry and Hermione like he did all because he was tired of travelling. Harry did tell them he thought they should stay. But however, I do see Ron's point. He's still a moron, though.
I guess he did prove himself when he saved Harry from the water and the locket, though, in all fairness to him.
Oh, the locket. Umbridge. Nasty little twit. I was upset to see she was back. Not surprised to find out she was the head of the Muggle-born Registration Commission, though.
Glad they destroyed that horcrux as well, but Hermione really needs to accept the fact that Dumbledore does things a certain way. "There's no such thing as the Deathly Hallows!" Oh, Miss Know It All.. open your mind a bit. She was right about Mr. Lovegood, though, he's a good man - really - he just misses his Luna. Turning them in was all he could do.
Alright, what else did I feel like I wanted to talk about? Is it me or does this book feel like it's missing that JKR humour we're so accustomed to? I'm rather disappointed in that. But... maybe by the end of the book we'll have something to really jabber about.
By the by: anyone check the last word? Wasn't it supposed to be scar? I know Mugglenet said it was subject to change. *grins* Don't look at the last sentence though if you don't want the ending revealed! You know, you think one sentence wouldn't be able to tell the ending... ugh. I was at the store and opened it to see if the last word was scar... it ruined it for me heh.
Oh well, until next time!

I've just finishec chapter 7 I think, and so far I think it's really good. Without trying to spoil anything, it is really sad until now. Spoilers below: I can't believe they killed off mad eye! And HEDWIG! OMG, that was bad . But I do admire Ron and Hermione for their dedication to both Harry and their families. I mean, making the ghoul Ron-utter GENIOUS! And I think Hermione must be extremely skilled (well, we already knew she was) to make her parents think tney were other people...albeit cruel. But I guess in some places you just gotta be cruel to be kind eh!

Mmhmm, all in good time . I'll get it all read soon enough, hopefully. And I've heard of some even sadder things which you've probbaly read. One of which I can't believe JK's done...actually, I can't believe she's done either of the 2 things I'm thinking of.

Hohoho! I have officially FINISHED! Woo! ;D God, that took forever. And my brother finished it before me and kept telling me "oh yes, absolutely, somebody dies" (I won't tell you if that's the truth or not). Drove me insane! So what if I had to do my dad's accounts! He wasn't any help! *bops brother on the head* No reading from here on if you don't even want any slight spoilers! I did enjoy the book though. I'm sad that so many people died... *cough* Awful. Tragic. I was close to tears. I have every mind to put a R.I.P. list here... *sob*

I've got this to say, I got the book as soon as it was released, even though I didn't start reading it until about two hours later, and by about noon I was just over half finished with the book. I was rather shocked as well at the death of Mad-Eye, among other things, but I really enjoyed seeing Kreacher's change in attitude toward Harry, Ron and Hermione. My dad, who I bought the book for as well, was just about finished with the book and so I called him and I started bugging him about what was happening next and the such, you know, curiosity and all, so needless to say when he finished the book yesterday I annoyed him even more.
And when I finished the book I got back on the phone with him and the two of us spent about two hours discussing the book, and we both agreed, there were something we wanted to know, like what happened with certain characters, even though we do get some glimpse into the future, but still, over all this was a great end, even though it seemed to be a bit drawn out at times.
So if I had to rate it, I'd give it two big thumbs up.
Edit put in black for definite spoilers. Hope you don't mind, Liam.
Edit: My dad and I had a debate going on the subject of Snape, at the end of Half-Blood, I wondered if Dumbledor had told Snape he was going to have to kill him, so that was another rub in his face. And, Collin Creevey dieing to? That was unexpected, but now that I think about it, I guess it makes sense, he really wanted to be involved.

Now that I've settled down after finsihing the book, I should really give an opinion on it. EDIT: I put everything in black, that's what you do with spoilers. Then highlight to read. Too many spoilers in there not to take that precaution of not ruining for other people... I agree with Liam that I enjoyed watching Kreacher's change; it was hilarious, especially Ron's comment on how fond he was of him now despite once wanting to spear his head on the wall. And yeah, I also wondered what had happened to other characters nineteen years later, not only Harry and the main characters. My brother was wondering what happened to Luna. And I can't say I'm so fond of the name Hugo... lol. Another thing I was wondering was who became headmaster of Hogwarts. I presumed McGonagall, but she may have retired by then.
I think the saddest death for me was Fred; purely because he left George alone. I know that sounds so typical, but they were a team, the Weasley brothers, and it just seemed so sad. If I could've chosen another Weasley to have died, then I'd probably have gone for Percy... but I'm glad their family was finally reunited in the end. I'm glad Hermione and Ron got together too. Gah, finally! I was also regretful about Lupin and Tonks, but I can understand that, I think. I still felt sad though. Dobby's death was just... aaaaah. I was so sad. Same with Hedwig, and Mad-Eye. They all made me feel sad (I mean, why would I feel happy?).
I'm just happy at the end of the day, Voldemort was defeated. Can't say I was happy the Malfoy family left unscathed (especially since Malfoy turned on them despite them saving his lives countless of times). Oh, and Mack, I did find the beginning part of the book, although launched into the excitement pretty quickly, was quite humorous. I think Ron instigated most of it. I enjoyed his little quips. But yeah, I was very surprised when Ron walked out on them. I knew he'd come back, it was just a matter of time. I don't blame him though (even though I was furious at the time and screaming "How could he!?" at my brother); personally I blame that stupid locket. *nod* Oh, and I have a newfound respect for Snape. He's a very good actor. Despite how he treated Harry and killed Dumbledore, he was... a good guy. Generally. I found myself unsurprised he was on our side, but very shocked to know he once knew Lily really well. That came as a surprise, definitely.
By the end of the book, I'm glad all those mysteries over the last seven years have become unravelled (I seriously thought Harry would die). Little things from all the previous books popped up, sort of, things you think Harry should've realised before, like the Grey Lady and the Bloody Baron. Pulled it all very nicely together. But anyway. That's my long winded opinion on the book.

Hey all! First time I got to get on here and discuss the book!
I see one or two people have finished it so I'll put my response in black so as not to spoil anyone.
I could not have predicted any less of this last installment. Rowling provided us with many answers and yet left it open for our imaginations as well. I could not have fallen more in love with the fact that Snape truly was acting on Dumbledore's orders and not Voldemorts which made me extremely happy. With the death of our beloved friends though I found myself wishing Rowling had spared them their fact. Dobby, Fred, Remus, Tonks, Bathilda, and the many others that gave their lives. Even Harry in the end as he lay as if dead. But you know what I found to be the most amazing thing in the world, was how Snape truly cared for Potter. Wanted to protect him, not send him to his death as Dumbledore knew must be done. And then that change in Harry, from the blundering kid we all knew him as to the strong wizard that had at least defeated Voldemort, avenging the deaths of hundreds of people in the process. One thing I was sad not to see though was Neville's part in avenging his parents torture. I felt it would have been right justice for Neville to kill Bellatrix. Not that I disliked seeing the immense power of Molly Weasley, I just felt it would have been nice to see Neville win that battle. Anyway I'm going to stop going on while I can still think straight.

I finished the book yesterday, after countless hours of walking around the entire house with my nose buried in the book. here's my take on it: ((in black of course)) the beginning was absolutely jam packed with thrills and excitement, followed by of course tears of shock at poor Mad-eye's and Hedwig's death. I actually found it to be extremely serious also. There wasn't really a lot of humor, but I got to say that Ron saved the day on that aspect. ((except for when he ran away.. )) I honestly wanted someone to go give Rita what she deserves for even THINKING about writing that horrible book on Dumbledore.
SNAPE IS INNOCENT! HE LOVES LILY! HE DOESN'T HATE HARRY!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!
((I loved the epilogue, although I do wonder what happened to characters like George and Luna, and I absolutely love Harry and Ginny's choice of the name Albus Severus but am wondering why in god's name did Ron and Hermione name their son HUGO??))

Finally finished...yay!
Alrighty, my tid bit:
That...was definately my favorite book...BY FAR. Wowzers. I loved it. I'm probably going to read it a million times over. I'm not really one for mysteries and so I was quite pleased by how almost every question I've ever had was answered. Very nice.
I busted up laughing reading the bit about the Grey Lady and the Baron, to be completely honest. It was kind of a ....duhhh moment for me. But anyways.
Let's see...The big Harry being a horcrux thing? I was...disapointed. Seeing as I've been denying that theory since people started talking about it. Dang. Oh well. It worked.
I had a feeling that room of stolen things was going to come back eventually...it just seemed logical to me.
Oh...my...lord. Best line in the whole entire book. "NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU..." yeah..I laughed a lot. Maybe it's just me but I found that that, coming out of Molly Weasley's mouth, was the funniest thing ever.
I was all around disapointed by the lack of creativity by Harry's kid's names? I know I know that they were going for the...in his parents and Albus and Severous' memories..but...bleh. And yes...Hugo? Come on Ron.
Oh and on Snape. I still dont get the impression that he ever really cared for Harry. To me it seemed that his love was really for Lily and he only kept Harry safe for her. If I was Snape, and was in love with Harry's mom? I'd hate the kid too...I mean...he's James' son. Not so fun to have a constant reminder of how you were beat out by the jock.
Ohhh well. As of right now...that's all I can think of.

I finished a few days ago... Here's my opinions: (in black) The begining surprised me, most of all. I was expecting the normal slow departure from the Dursleys, but it was so chock full of suprises and suspense I couldn't stop reading. First of all, Dudley... "I don't think you're a waist of space" priceless. I had new love for Dudley after that. Then the deaths of Mad Eye and Hedwig. That was heavy!
The next thing was how much I found out I hated the new minister. What a *beep*! I can't believe that even after everything Harry's been through, he still sits there and acts like Harry is some little kid or something that has been naughty... jeeze... Dumbledore wasn't very clear in his will which made me laugh. Of course not! It's Dumbledore! Although annoying, yes, but to be expected.
When Ron walked out on Harry and Hermione, I was mostly angery. I blame the locket as well, but my goodness, Ron! He was so sure at the begining that him and Hermione were going to stick through it! And then abandoning them. *tisk tisk tisk* Poor Harry
Through it all, the next thing that hit me most... Was Fred's death. I cried, I admit. I was so torn up by Percy's sorrow for his brother. It was like proof that he did love his family. I cried even harder when it appeared Hagrid had died. All I could think was: "Not Hagrid!!" Even reading on, I would think about Hagrid and Fred and cry, haha. Yes... I'm emotional, leave it alone
The thing with the rest was how much Rowling took every rumour I've heard and incorperated them in the story. It was amazingly done, I have to say. The thing with Harry and the snake as horcruxes was also too much for me. I had gone forward and read the very last sentence (I know... shame on me...) and knew that Harry would live, so I was confused as to how he was to kill Voldemort and live at the same time. Very nicely done though.
I also enjoyed how Rowling ended every book with Harry and Dumbledore having a long talk. Even when he was dead, she pulled it off. I love it!
Next was Tonks and Lupins' deaths... *sigh* I couldn't believe it. I had to reread the sentences over and over to make sure. It was so heart wrenching. They'd just had a baby and everything...
The humor in everything was nicely done, as well. The thing with Teddy's hair color changing... haha. Loved it. Just loved it... And Mrs. Weasley! My my my! Surprise!! I love her haha. "NOT MY DAUGHTER , YOU..." hehe and Kreacher! Oh my goodness!!! I love that little elf. "Shoes off before dinner, if you please, Master Harry." hehe gotta love his cooking and cleaning lol. I was a little upset when they had to leave him behind though. Poor Kreacher.
*sigh* all in all, best book out of the seven... yes yes! BRAVO J.K. ROWLING, BRAVO!!! I am very upset that this is it... *sigh* now it's only fan fictions and role playing, which isn't so bad, really.

I finally finished the book yesterday. I originally wanted to take my time with it but was sort of forced to finish it when I stumbled upon some lovely person on facebook that decided it would be such a wonderful idea to post all the spoilers in an unavoidable discussion title. Hooray for the rude people that feel it necessary to ruin things for others. Anyway, I have a few opinions: First of all, the deaths. I feel so insensitive because the only death I cried for was Dobby. But I loved that little house elf! And Hedwig made me pretty sad because that was totally unexpected. I was sad that Fred died, but I think I would have been much more upset if there was the initial shock, which I missed out on thanks to spoilers. I was pretty much indifferent to the others. I think I would be much more upset with Lupin and Tonks dying if they were more present in this book. I originally expected Ron to die because my sister found a "page of spoilers" posted by someone days before the book came out. She told me that both Ron and Percy die, so that was what I expected and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they did not die. You guys might be interested in this spoiler page too, at least for a laugh. They pretty much got it all wrong, minus the chapter summaries, which are vague but accurate.
I'm slightly disappointed with the mention of the Deathly Hallows. Their role seemed so minor, although the book is clearly titled after them. And in the end he didn't even keep the Elder Wand! I just felt like the Deathly Hallows were thrown in there and they didn't fit much into the story. It finally explained where Harry got his cloak and why it was so special, but I wanted the idea of the three items to play a much bigger role.
I loved the Battle of Hogwarts and the scene setting. She did a really nice job with that one. And I loved how it ended at Hogwarts, where it all began, instead of having some major battle somewhere else. It was very appropriate.
I'm not going to lie, I was slightly disappointed with Voldemort. I've always been so romanticized by the idea of the Dark Lord and how powerful he was, and she just obliterated all of the ideas behind him. I understand how it all fit into the plot and the point behind making him seem human and ordinary after all, it just seemed like such a waste to me because he was so hated and feared throughout the rest of the books that I was sad she demolished his image in a few chapters. And I personally think his death was so lame. I really wanted a big, extravagant duel between Harry and Voldemort, but no, Harry simply defeated him with the truth and a disarming spell. There was so much build up to the final battle that I felt it very anticlimactic.
I'm glad that everything turned out all happy and good in the end, but I wish there was more than a few pages to explain what happened to everyone. What does Harry do? What sort of jobs do they all have? Do they live in the Muggle World or the Wizarding World? Harry is obviously very famous so how does he cope? I really wanted all of these questions to be answered instead of being left to speculate. I thought it was cute that everyone ended up married and with kids, but I was quite confused with all the kids names and which one was which. I had to go back and reread all of those sentences to find out which kid belonged to which couple and where they fit into the family age-wise. And Albus Severus? I understand that he was honoring two great wizards but that is a lot of "us" sounds. Hugo? Honestly Ron and Hermione, where in the world did you come up with Hugo?
As negative as all of this sounds, I'm just being very picky. I really liked the book and will end up reading it again, I just felt like harping on all the nit-picky things I noticed.

This isn't a spoiler and I'm not going into detail, so I don't see the need to black it. I personally loved the book overall it gave me some twists and turns, but the epilogue was not very good in my honest opinion , but that is just me. Now for the ENDING SPOILER ALERT Am I the only who realizes that according to Harry, He is the possessor of the Deathly Hallows and the master/conquerer of death? I have asked all my friends that read it how do they think Harry came back to life or whatever and they all say either it's because he is a horcrux, They share the same blood, or the (so close that I couldn't believe that they didn't realize it) The Elder wand refused to kill it's master. Did anyone else catch up on Harry Mastering death via the Deathly Hallows?
Also, I have a question for those of you who have read the whole thing... (another spoiler alert but also a question for the ones who have read the book) During the infamous duel, Harry goes on and on about how he is the true owner of the eldest wand. Explain to me how this can be.. In the book it talks about how it is Malfoy's, but why is that? Malfoy never killed him, and Harry also says that Snape isn't it's master because Dumbedore planned his death with him, so if anything shouldn't it not have a true owner? Shouldn't it just be ownerless like it would be when Harry dies a natural death...?

Hmm...Interesting point Cougar..I am actually not sure about that one....[[in black]]
I think what happened was that since Snape took the vow in the sixth book that technically credit still went to Malfoy, plus Malfoy was the one who "DISARMED" Doumbledore in the first place to where the action of a killing curse could have occured. And since Harry save Malfoy's life those two times then he became the elder. I think that the true reason Harry also didn't was because he was the Conquerer of Death. Which is why he was able to reface Voldemort and win [[yay]] lol
But that's just what i thought< I could be wrong..

Well...
The way wands work is if one wizard takes (more like wins, from a duel or whatever) another wizard's wand, that wand is now the first wizards. The way it worked was...
Draco disarmed Dumbledore, therefore Dumbly's wand (the Elder Wand) became rightfully Draco's.
Then when they were at the Malfoy manor and escaping, Harry took Draco's wand (his regular one not the Elder Wand because by then it was still with Dumbly). He won Draco's wand off him because he disarmed Draco. Make sense? So, since Harry had disarmed Draco... he was the rightful owner of the Elder Wand.
That's how I've understood it. Might be wrong. But I'm pretty sure that's right.
