I was going to put this up before I went on proper vacation leave, but then I realised I needed to make a few days' worth of getaway if I was ever going to revise and pass my exams, aha. Now they're over, I can post these up. (:
Basically, if you have experience with fanfiction and LiveJournal communities that revolve around fanfiction and the like, you may have heard of the 10 Songs challenge. It's not its official name, lol - I just made it up. I think it's called something like that, though (I forget, haha).
The rules are simple. First, you choose a couple/fandom, etc. Second, you put your iPod/music on shuffle. Third, you start writing. You've got to use the songs that come on, regardless of what songs they may be (I cheated a bit; had to skip past the non-English songs, lol) and you have to write about your chosen topic based on that song. Your time limit is the length of the song, so you have to be fast! It's really fun and really gets your inspiration going. (: You can write about anything you like; in any universe, at any age, etc.
So, yes, I did this for Theo and Oscar (what I have dubbed Theoscar). Theoscar comes really naturally to me, and I found it really fun to write. Then it went from ten songs to twenty, to forty and so on, lol. Now I'm aiming for one hundred, aha. I couldn't stop. I currently have ninety and I will work on the last ten sometime soon. Some are set in Hogwarts world, some not; some of them are them as teens, some as adults, etc. I just wanted to share some of them with you. I already showed Astrid (obviously, lol), as well as Adam and Kia, and hopefully they'll make you smile and/or inspire you to try this out with some of your characters. Post them here so we can all read!
I've chosen my favourite ten out of the ninety to show you. However, if you want to read the others (some of which definitely breach PG-13), just PM me and I'll send you the whole batch. xD They're long but each one's short and if you're a Theoscar fan, even better. ;D
9. Goodbye To You, Michelle Branch
(I can't live a day without you)
Theo’s lips dragged along Oscar’s softly, roughly, stamping the feeling, the movement, the memory into his mind. His hands grasped desperately at his hair; his mouth breathed his boyfriend in, as much as he could possibly take.
Theo needed this; he needed to take Oscar, take all of him and keep it inside, store it up; never forget.
“Theo…” Oscar interrupted quietly, warningly.
“No!” Theo ground out against his boyfriend’s lips, feeling his tears mingle with the kiss. “No, not yet… not yet, Oscar…”
Theo kissed Oscar with all the passion he had – more than he had ever shown, because right now, he needed his boyfriend to know how much he loved him.
Eventually, Theo was forced to draw away, breathing hard and crying. He looked helplessly lost before Oscar’s eyes. The brunette leaned in and kissed his boyfriend one more time on the lips tenderly with a soft smile. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Theo whispered back, wiping away his tears with a sleeve.
Oscar grinned one last time before the train began to move. “I’ll see you when I see you, Theo.”
10. Holiday, Green Day
(This is the dawning of the rest of our lives)
“Excited much?” Theo’s eyebrows danced in amusement as Oscar squirmed in the aeroplane seat beside him.
Oscar shushed him with a look, but it didn’t stop Theo from giggling.
“You’re like a little boy with a new toy at Christmas,” Theo teased, taking Oscar’s hand in his and squeezing reassuringly.
“I’ve never been to Hawaii,” Oscar said solemnly.
“Neither have I,” Theo parried, leaning in for a soft but lingering kiss. “That’s why we chose it for our honeymoon.”
23. So I Need You, 3 Doors Down
(You’re holding up my world)
“She’s dying.”
Theo’s pained words were Oscar’s welcome home.
“What?”
“My mum. They say… they say she’s got cancer. Three months.” Theo’s voice broke, his eyes glistening with tears. He buried his face in his hands to try to stifle his emotions.
“Oh Theo.” Oscar moved across the living room and wrapped his arms tightly around his partner, hugging him close. “I’m here,” he whispered soothingly as Theo broke down into pieces. “I’m here for you.”
24. If You’re Gone, Matchbox 20
(There’s a little bit of something me in everything in you)
Theo stared at the photograph with a sore smile, his fingers thumbing the edge of the frame with loving care.
If he was still here, today would’ve been their fiftieth anniversary.
Theo bowed his head, tears threatening to overwhelm him. Theo had promised him he wouldn’t cry for him when he was gone, but one day every year, he let his grief get the better of him.
One day a year, Theo broke his promise.
Tears ran across the glass of the photo frame. Shakily, Theo’s wizened finger wiped a droplet off the handsome face of the brunette beside his thirty-year-old self, and kissed the picture tenderly.
“I love you, forever and always, Oscar.”
26. I Wanna Have Your Babies, Natasha Bedingfield
(I’ll only put the idea out there if I know its gonna float)
Theo read his book in comfortable silence, tucked into the bed with his back against the wall. When Oscar wandered into the doorway he didn’t notice until he spoke, he was so absorbed in the novel.
“Hey.”
Theo looked up and smiled. “Hey. What’s up?”
“Nothing.” Oscar shrugged, his tall, muscular frame leaning on the entrance sexily (although he probably had no idea).
Theo sent his partner a look. “Nothing? I don’t believe that.”
Oscar grinned wryly and approached the bed, crawling onto the duvet and kissing Theo quickly. Pulling away as Theo’s eyes fluttered open again, his book completely forgotten, Oscar said, “I want a kid.”
Theo’s eyes widened. “You what?”
“I want a kid. With you. Well, not with you, because that’s impossible, but you know… I want to adopt. Or something. I want children… don’t you? I’m ready to be a dad… but only if you are too.”
Theo stared at Oscar in shocked silence, until a grin spread on his face like a ray of sunshine.
“Let’s go get ourselves a baby then, love.”
28. Hold On, Take That
(Just hold on to me)
“This is insane, Oscar!” Theo shouted over the high pressure and howling winds.
“You promised me, Theo!” His boyfriend yelled back with an excited grin. “Come on, take my hand! We can do it together!”
Theo stretched his fingers to Oscar and found his familiar, secure grip. “I’m ready,” Theo said with a gulp, his eyes set downwards in fear and anticipation.
“Okay.” Oscar’s grin widened. “On three… One, two, three!”
And then they jumped out of the aeroplane.
40. Listen To The Rain, Evanescence
(Please don't let go. Can't we stay for a while?)
Theo stared out of the drizzling window, his eyes watching each droplet of rain hit the pane of glass and bounce off to join its fellow raindrops in gathering in the street, creating growing puddles that reflected the stormy skies.
Unlike the outdoors, the house was heated and warm, and Theo wrapped his arms around his body gratefully.
The creak of the floorboards brought Theo’s attention from the window to the shape stood in the doorway of the bedroom. A small smile lifted to his lips. “Hey.”
Without a word, Oscar crossed towards his boyfriend and wrapped his arms around him tightly, protectively, as though the world couldn’t touch them; as though they were the only beings on Earth.
“What’s wrong?” Oscar asked gently.
Theo shook his head. “Nothing. Just thinking… and listening to the rain.”
Oscar looked past Theo’s head of blonde at the falling rain outside and hugged Theo tighter.
After five minutes of comfortable silence, Theo looked up at his partner. “Kiss me.”
Oscar didn’t hesitate to oblige.
59. Love Ain’t Here Anymore, Take That
(So honey, why don't you beg me to stay?)
“Don’t go.”
Theo froze. His fingers around the suitcase handle tightened, his knuckles snow-white.
“Don’t go, Theo.” The voice was pleading, desperate.
“I can’t do this anymore, Oscar.” Theo finally found his voice, though it was cracking with emotion.
“I love you.”
“It’s not enough,” Theo replied sorrowfully, his back still turned to the man standing behind him.
“I’ll do anything, Theo. Just don’t leave. Please don’t leave me.” He flung his strong arms around Theo, embracing him tightly. “Stay,” he whispered into his ear.
Theo felt tears build in his eyes; his throat constricted. Finally, he shook Oscar free by stepping forwards forcefully, his free hand opening the front door.
“I’m sorry, Oscar."
68. Colours, Amos Lee
(‘Cause when you're gone all the colours fade)
Theo wiped the kitchen counter down listlessly, his eyes downcast as they observed the marble surface.
Black. White. Grey.
The permanent frown creasing the sides of his eyes, Theo left the cloth by the sink and proceeded to take out the vacuum cleaner and plug it in.
The walls: white. The sofa: black. The carpet: grey.
The living room took him half an hour, the study room ten minutes. Theo found himself lying on the bed afterwards, breathing; just breathing.
Ceiling: white. Duvet: black. Sky: grey.
Before Theo knew it, he was asleep. An hour later, when the bedroom door flew open, Theo’s eyelashes fluttered open, and he smiled for the first time as his gaze settled on a tall, handsome figure.
Hair: brown. Eyes: even browner. A smile the colours of the rainbow.
And suddenly, Theo’s world was in colour again.
83. Wisemen, James Blunt
(They came down from Heaven, smoked nine till seven)
Oscar let puffs of smoke escape his mouth as he drew his cigarette away, letting it lie laxly between his index and middle fingers. His back leaned against the dirty stonewall, one foot bending behind him. His hair, dark and mussed, fell over his eyes to cast a mysterious look over his tall and muscular figure.
“You know that smoking is prohibited on the school grounds?” a voice broke through the tranquillity, causing Oscar to glance up at the intruder. It was a shorter but older man, probably in his early or mid twenties; he had a crop of short blonde hair and stern yet twinkling blue eyes.
“Excuse me? Who are you to tell me what I can or can’t do?” Oscar snorted uncaringly as he looked away, bored, and proceeded to take another long drag from the cig and tap the ashes to the floor.
“I’m your new form teacher this year,” the man said testily, though his calm and composure remained solid.
“Oh.” Oscar sent a cursory acknowledging glance at the supposed teacher, eyeing his stature up and down. “You look more like a student. The suit doesn’t do much for your age, mate.”
Without a word, the blonde approached Oscar, boldly took the cigarette out of his fingers, dropped it to the floor and stamped on it. After a severe stare at Oscar, he picked the butt of the cigarette and deposited it in the bin as he walked away. “I’ll see you in registration, Oscar Flynn. And also in detention tomorrow lunchtime.”
Oscar blinked. Rolling his eyes after the teacher had long disappeared, he went to seek out his new form room.
