Hehe it's spelt 'debate'. I appreciate that this isn't so much of a debate as a question, but something that I'm sure you could make us all better informed about are the Indian elections - from what you've said then you live in India? (sorry if I'm wrong, I don't want to cause offence). Are elections a really big thing in India? How old do you have to be to vote? I think the differences between various political systems are quite interesting.

Good idea Ivy. Yes, you are right. I'm from India. So, here is something from which you would come to know about Indian Elections: Indian Elections India is a Democratic Country, having many political parties. The root of all that is wrong with India's democracy. I agree that voting has become a 'Trade' & 'Vote' a highly tradable commodity. Present day politics in India is so overtly besmirched by the 'ministers'. They create the issue. Reality is not that. Factors affecting democracy in India: In India, religion in life is a major influence over the Indian population and culture. The main religions of India are Hinduism and Islam and each religion has parties from whom support is given. In contrast to the Hindu population, India has the second largest population of Muslims in the world. The effect of religion on Indian politics is staggering. These confrontations are the basis for power struggle within the Indian government. : Every election preparations are based on religious campaigns and social gathering of a section in particular. Many national religious issues are the key points of the success in elections. This factor has also lead to the formation of many strict laws. : To stop the population growth rate had been a major issue for the political parties and the government. India still lacks some effective laws to prevent population growth. Individual mother tongues in India number several hundred!![/b].[/size] Voting India is a democracy. The people of India elect their governments at all levels (Union, State and local) by a system of universal adult franchise; popularly known as 'One man one vote'. Every citizen of India, who is 18 years of age and above and not otherwise debarred by law, is entitled to vote. Every citizen enjoys this right without any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, colour, sex, religion or education. From The Golden Pages Of India....- India won the first T20 World Cup in 2008.
- Indian movie Slumdog Millionaire won the Oscar & four Golden Globe Awards too last year.
- Indian scientists cloned world's first calf.
(I haven't given all information. so I'll edit later. Lack of time ) If you have any questions, ask to me.

That's very interesting. When you say that 'the people of India elect their governments at all levels (Union, State and local)', do you mean that elections for all three of those types of government are happening in the coming month? How often are elections held?

Sorry for the late reply Ivy **I think it's tooo late** I forgot to answer you. well, no. Elections for Union, State and local level do not happen at same time. We had elections for union level, means for the selection of PM who is elected after every five year.
