The wind whipped across the icy grounds. A freak snowstorm had littered the grounds white, giving it a foreboding sensation. The flowers that had been on the verge of blooming were now wilting in the chill evening air and the buds on the trees were covered with the life sucking frost of the end of winter. There was no sound save for the howling of the wind through the dead cold world and the soft crunching of footsteps. Black snow boots rose to mid-calf on her long legs, a pair of black pants clinging to her from the wind, a dark green sweater hung loosely from her shoulders, and a black jacket was pulled over the sweater to keep the chill from driving deeper than flesh. Crimped blonde hair flipped out behind her before Ruby Lehane turned to look back at the way she had come. The footsteps were still slightly noticeable, but the blowing snow was fast covering the evidence of her ‘walk.’
Blue orbs returned to her current path, mind roaming as she did so. This was what she needed, what her mind had wanted for so long. A walk, a cold chilling walk through a world of silence and decay. There were so many angles to remember, so many people to take into account. The book was even harder to crack than Wynd and her had thought it would be. That wasn’t stopping them though…it never could. The wind picked up and a chill ran down her spine. It was a cruel world…cold and meaningless right now. Even being 17 hadn’t brought her any more luck than what she already had. Sure she was now one step closer to a world she could never forgive, but that still wasn’t close enough for her own personal plans. Amazing how at times the world seemed to revolve so quickly around the sun and other times how it seemed to move so slowly it was as if it wasn’t moving at all.
Palm turned upward as eye watched the tiny snowflakes land…melting quickly in her warm hand. She could hardly feel it, the cold air not really affecting her as much as it would have if she hadn’t been walking around as long as she had been. Her brother was warm and cozy in the dormitory at least that’s what she could feel from him, their twin bond allowing that sort of connection between their emotions. Briefly she wondered what he was feeling from her, if it was something that could give light to her current emotions, to their plans. However, he was not there to do so at that moment and by the time she slipped back in to the castle she would probably have forgotten all about what was bothering her right then.
As if on cue, Ruby was awakened from her reverie by the sound of another set of footsteps crunching through the snow. Her form tightened, becoming rigid with confidence and power. That was how Ruby liked to be seen…not because she wasn’t that way but because she was confident and powerful. Her OWL scores were proof of that as was the Prefect badge that gleamed on her robes back in her dormitory. She stopped in her tracks and turned in the direction of the sound, her hair whipping across her face as her eyes fell on a raven-haired boy of which she did not recognize. “Are you following me?” Ruby asked in a voice of great contempt. “I do not think it’s wise for a student your age to be wandering outside in a storm such as this.” If he had expected her to be friendly then he was mistaken. Ruby had no such reason to be kind or friendly to anyone that disrupted her.
