Elina was sitting silently in the Library, her eyes skimming over the pages of To Kill A Mockingbird and then re-reading what she had just read so she understood each word and could relate to it some form and way. Her blue eyes looked up delicately, looked around the library before settling their gaze back on the book. Her brown hair was up in a loose bun and chopsticks held it in place as she lowered her head over the book so she gave the term "nose in a book" a literary example.
But, Elina always had "her nose in a book" and it was usually the only way she could escape from a place that she didn't want to be in, or a situation she didn't want to confront. The books always seemed to be an open portal that lead her to a world where her imagination could run wild and she could be happy and not hide or be shy. Her smile was always worn on her face while she was in said worlds and it was always so beautiful, then she was pulled back into reality.
Once again, Elina raised her eyes to look around the library. Some called her paranoid, but she objected to that and said she was merely interested in what was going on around her. She wouldn't want to miss anything if something large happened that she didn't know about it until later. Life passed people by when they didn't pay much attention to it. The common scene before her drove her eyes back to the book, for it had only been Madame Pince kicking some Slytherin out for rude behaviour and she wasn't really interested in what the Slytherin had done.
People gossip too much as it is...this school doesn't need another tribute to the wild-fire-rumours that spread around here, Elina often thought. She knew many people that would definitly disagree with her though. A few she could name off the top of her mind, it was something that you never forgot. Arguements such as though. She was a very opinionated person, and when she thought or knew you were wrong; you better agree with her before she resorted to using large words that no one could barely understand. Elina never really lost her temper, it was just something that happened when it was needed. And at the moment; it was most definitly not needed.

Cassandra literally tripped in the library because she normally tripped over her own cloak on a regular basis. She fell on the floor and dropped her bookbag which held her precious, almost mint condition, copy of Lord of the Rings. Since the movies had come out in the Muggleverse, it could be hard to find them. She stroked the book lovingly as she realized she had made a peculiar racket and everyone was looking at her. Even the girl who was reading To Kill A Mockingbird.
To Kill A Mockingbird? She hadn't seen that since she left for Hogwarts. Sometimes it was so hard to be away from her family who knew nothing of this place, and talking to people who seemed like they were from Muggle families helped her relieve the homesickness sometimes.
" Do you like the book? I really enjoyed it," she said as she sat in front of the girl at the table.

Elina glanced up as someone joined her across the table. The girl was a Gryffindor, maybe 13 or 14. Elina was positive about this, just by the way she looked and the way she talked. She smiled in greeting and looked at the cover of her book. To Kill A Mockingbird was her favorite book in the entire Muggle universe. She loved how the author wrote so perfectly with the dialect, yet so grammatically correct. Harper Lee was a great author, and it was sad how she had only written one book, Elina would have enjoyed reading another one of her works.
"Yes actually, it's my 15th time reading it. I can't seem to get enough of the way Harper Lee writes. I'm Elina Hill by the way," Elina smiled as she stuck out her hand for the girl to shake. Her bracelet was laying stationery against her lightly tan skin, and the charms made no sound as they normally did. One charm in particular was of a raven, she had recieved that after accomplished memorizing Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" for her muggle school and it was said to be real silver. Which was yet to be proven false, considering it hadn't changed her wrist green just yet.
"You've read this? Not many people here who have dared to pick up a muggle book, well not a lot of people I know anyway." She added after they shook hands and she laid her book down, carefully remembering the page number so she could continue reading it later on. She crossed her arms over her chest and smiled at the girl, it was a small smile but, alas a smile. One she used a lot around new people, nothing personal...just timidness.

" Oh, I'm Cassandra. A lot of people call me Cassie or Cas. Whichever you like best. Yes, I have read it. However, my two favoriate books would have to be Uncle Tom's Cabin or The Great Gatsby. I love old literature. It gives great insight to the world," Cassandra said. She exhaled. She hoped the girl had not relized she came from a muggle family yet. It almost seemed like she didn't like muggle borns by the way she spoke. But, she was an intellectual, and sometimes intellectuals did come off a little rude when they spoke. Some of her friends said she did that.
" Did you read Uncle Tom's Cabin or those books? I love the more obstreperous characters. They tend to be the best."

Elina smiled warmly, "No I can't say I have. Do you recommend them? Maybe I should put this old book down and pick up something newer to my eyes. I have a terribly hard time reading new books, it takes me a good while until I get into the form of the author's writing, and by then the book is well done and over." She answered with a twinkling gleam in her eyes. She flipped her hair casually over her shoulder and smiled again. Being from a half muggle and half wizarding family, she had read a lot in her lifetime and it was amazing to find so many other people who have read the same books as she. And she had thought she was alone in the universe.
"I've read a lot of Edgar Allen Poe though. And some William Shakespeare here and there. I also read a lot of Charles D ickens and Mark Twain. Have you read any of their books or plays, seeing as Shakespeare was a playwright and not an author..though he could be in some form of way." Elina suggested a few authors she simply adored after a moment's pause, for the silence was bothering her bit. Usually she found it comforting, but today it was none of the sort. Why she had retreated to the library was beyond her thinking and she had no idea why she hadn't stayed in her common room, where it was at least a bit louder than this.
((Sometimes I hate the word censor...))

" Yeah, I like Shakespeare. He can bore me a bit though. I have to think too hard to understand the language, and sometimes I just want to enjoy it and not really have to work at the understanding of it. Yes, I do really enjoy Uncle Tom's Cabin. Everyone should read it, but get the unabridged version. It is a lot longer but it is worth it. And everybody should read Fitzgerald once in their life," Cassandra broke off.
The girl seemed to be in a bit of a reviree. She didn't want to interrupt her.
Maybe she's having some sort of vision or something, thought Cassandra to herself.
" Anyways, have you read anything by Lewis Carrol? Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass is a must."

"Oh, Shakespeare's work is wonderful, although sometimes it might be a bit complicated to understand. He did use modern English though, he just used a lot of what they considered 'slang' back then. I enjoyed Romeo and Juliet immensely, along with Hamlet. But, not near as much as I enjoyed A Midsummer's Dream." She said after Cassie stated Shakespeare being hard to understand. Which was true, the writings were a bit confusing, but once you got the hang of at least a few words you could understand a sentence or two.
"I simply adore Lewis Caroll. The Walrus and the Carpenter, is probably my most favorite poem of his. But, I did enjoy the Lobster Quadrille. The book I did enjoy, but it was hard for me to put an image in my head. It wasn't until I saw the movie two years later that I got an actual scene in my mind." Elina exclaimed with delight. Cassie did seem to know a lot of her most favorite authors, and Elina was enjoying this conversation very much. It was time she became a bit social, even if it was talking about books...but, then again books were what Elina knew best.

" You know, I was the exact same way. The whole entire scene didn't come together till I saw the movie. Of course, there is this play by Thornton Wilder called " Waking Alice" and it is immensly good. I saw it at a community theater one year. It's about Alice going back to Wonderland and all the things that had happened since she left. It's a great social commentary on politics," mused Cas.
This was the first person she met at Hogwarts who even knew anything about her favoriate authors. NOt may teenagers got into victorian literature like she did. It takes a certain taste to enjoy it.
" Speaking of older literature, I do enjoy some of the plays they have created based off older books. I don't know if you've heard of this, but Wicked is about the Wicked With of the West and all her mechanizations behind what she did in the Wizard of Oz. They did a play this year based on that book, and it was really good. Most times I don't like adaptations, but I really enjoyed this one."

Elina smiled as Cas mentioned Wicked. One of the books that Elina had been forced to read a while back, and then was taken to see the play, "That's how I am. I used to think that there couldn't possibly be a play based off a book as near good as the book itself. I actually saw Wicked, and I did enjoy it as well. Most plays do catch my attention though, it's not less than a movie per se, but plays you must give much more credit, they seemed to take a lot more effort, because you can't simply edit out your mistakes like they do with films." Elina stated calmly. Hoping that she had made at least some sense in a way that Cas could understand.
"Although, I still say the book was better than the play. The Wizard of Oz is an all time classic, along with The Little Princess and The Secret Garden. Classics that I could never forget, and all made into movies and plays. At least I think the Little Princess was made into a play, not so sure about that one though." She tapped her fingers on her book lightly, no particular reason just because, it was a small habit she did when she was excited. It was her way of controlling her enthusiasm at a level that was accepted in her surroundings.

" I'm pretty sure To Kill a Mockingbird is a play....wait, thats Death of a Salesman I haven't gotten a chance to see Wicked. I would really like to do though. I think my favoriate play would have to be Phantom of the Opera. I saw that one on Broadway. It was great," Cass sped off like a train.
She was really excited. Not many people enjoyed plays like she did. She could sit in a theater all day watching the intricacies of the world of a good theater presentation. It was good to find someone who enjoyed it also.
" You know, I think there is an independent theater in Hogsmeade. I know there showing Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are dead this week. I wasn't a great fan of MacBeth, but Stoppard's use of absurdity really gets me going at that show. Do you want to come with me one night to go and see it?"
