We have activated the Karma feature on this board. Every member now has a Karma rating which will reflect that character's posting skill level.
Every member on this board may Exalt (give 1 Karma point) or Smite (take 1 Karma point) from any other member on this board.
Exalting Rules
The criteria for giving Karma is simple: if you come across a well RPed post, you can give that person a Karma point! If you read a post that you really enjoyed, give the person a Karma point! If you're a newer member and someone has been very helpful towards you, you may give them a Karma point! If you happen to see a new member who is improving their RPing skills, give them some Karma!
Smiting Rules
The criteria for taking Karma is more defined. You may NOT Smite someone simply because you don't like them or because their Slytherin character bullied your character. You may Smite someone for a horrible RP post such as a one-liner, or a post with hundreds of spelling or grammar errors. Smiting can also be for breaking a site rule that they KNEW they were breaking such as posting in an owl or post that wasn't addressed to them.
Extra Karma Rules
When you Exalt or Smite someone, you will be prompted to explain why you Exalted or Smote them. Be specific with your explanation. If you exalted someone, tell them what they did that you think was great. If you smote someone, tell them exactly what it was that caused the smote, e.g. posting in a post not addressed to them, posting a reply to your post that was far below the quality in which you first posted, way too many spelling errors when there is a spellchecker on the site, etc. When smiting someone, keep in mind WHO they are. Do not smite beginners for not posting well - remember everyone starts off as a beginner.
When you smite someone, you MUST send them a PM giving the exact reason why they were smote. If you find that you have been smote and you never received a PM as to why, please let the Staff know in Talk to the Staff!
There has been recent Karma problems with self-exalting, that is people giving their own characters several Karma points. Staff will deal with this, and from now on if it's found that anyone is giving their own characters extra Karma, that person shall be subject to a 'Staff Smote'. That is, all members of Staff will smite that person, ouch. If you feel you've been smoted and it was unwarranted, forward the smote PM to Staff.
Lastly, you may Exalt or Smite only once per hour!
