Jacob, having regained full control of his limbs, wiggled out from under Liang. "Hey, but we don't get points? Didn't you see me jinx Pagan? I was all"---here he mad a ludicrous sound effect---"and she, she was all "---here he smacked the ground for an impressive sounding finish. "And you have to admit, sir, that my what-ever-that-was was pretty astounding. That means its cool, right? It probably would have worked. Well, maybe."
Jacob pushed himself up off the ground, and it was only until then that he realized how stupid he just sounded. His face contorting humorously, he desperately tried to contrive a way of somehow making an already hopelessly embarrassing situation marginally better. A more wiser person perhaps would have stopped there, but intelligence rarely visited the mind of boys, let alone the mind of Jacob.
As was his nature, he pressed on. "I mean, you could even say that I'm a natural with this. With, um, spells. I mean jinxes. That was a jinx, right?" He coughed. "Its just confusing. All the types." He coughed again, now realizing that he was one of the few people still talking. "Hey, uh, Pagan. Why don't you try to jinx me again. Just want to show my talent before class ends," he called, now trying to escape into the background as quickly as possible.
Move on, move on, Professor, he thought, trying to get Druex to go to some other student. Nothing to see here. Just a complete idiot making a fool of himself.
As he got into a proper spell-casting position, his eyes flicked once more over to Liang. I better get this right, he thought to himself. If I want at least Liang to be my friend, I've got to be good at something.
