Post by Professor Amaryllis Hardy on Oct 24, 2005 10:32:19 GMT
Amaryllis glanced up at the clock as she waited for the students to arrive to her Muggle Studies lesson. She was now the proud owner of two different classrooms, and while she hadn’t had the chance to imprint much character on this ground floor classroom she was teaching in now as she had on the duelling classroom in the time she’d been there, she’d ensured that it was clean and fairly comfortable. The large windows let in as much light as the October month was prepared to yield, and she had no inclination to draw the rather grand curtains which adorned them. The desks were wooden, arranged in neat rows which were quite formal, with comfortable chairs behind each one of them; Amaryllis' teacher's desk at the front of the classroom. The floor was at present a polished wood. On several shelves around the classroom different Muggle artefacts were arranged. There were electrical goods - a black and white portable television, an 'IPOD', an electrical lamp. There was also a CD player with a selection of CDs which had different Muggle music on. In another part of the classroom was a coin and stamp collection different countries' Muggles used.
Amaryllis brought out her teacher's diary and turned to the relevant page, looking through her notes for the lesson carefully. She wanted students to enjoy her Muggle Studies lessons, so she spent a good deal of time preparing each one. Today, she had just finished setting up a rather unusual device in one corner of the room - partitioned off from the rest of it with sound-proofing material and then divided itself in half with another sound-proofed wall. Inside were some rather old-fashioned looking telephones. Amaryllis pondered it critically, before, after one last glance at her notes for the lesson, bringing out some pieces of homework from the older years and marking them, reading through them carefully first and checking against a main list of points she had made for the particular assignment as she did so, waiting for the students to start arriving.
((Please remember that this is a class, not a chance to socialise and as such classroom rules apply. Please keep pre-lesson chatter to a minimum.))

Mitch walk in to the Muggle Studies classroom it wasn't the friendliest class he seen but it was class all the same. He stood in the door way and looked around the empty class, he walk to the table closest the door and sat down and waited for the rest of the class bag at his feet and head in his hands.

As Danielle walked into Muggle Studies she saw that it was basically empty. There was one other boy but he was in Slytherin. So far she was the only Gryffindor there, she walked over to a table sat down and waited for class to begin.

Dana stretched and let out a long breath rubbing her bit sore shoulder. Kris was trying to get back on track with his life. So Dana had agreed to do some martial arts practice with him. Not that Kris had lost any of his skill in it. Dana hadn’t lost as miserably as before, but she had most certainly not escaped without a few bruises. She wasn’t realyl bad off – nor was Kris who seemed to be more or less alright – but her shoulder was a bit sore from a bit heavier hit Kris ahd landed there. At least he seemed happy so Dana didn’t realyl mind as they left to go on different ways for this morning. Kris went off to... somehwere... Dana wasn’t exactly sure where to. While Dana herself went to the Prefects bathroom to wash and change in peace and privacy. There were tons of bonuses for being a prefect. Being allowed to use this particular bathroom was one of Dana’s favourites however.
Slipping into a pair of blue jeans and a white figure-hugging sweater Dana pulled her hair back with a few hair-clips and left the room. Kris had brought her a few cauldron cakes, chocolates and some other small snacks to the room they had practiced in, so Dana wasn’t hungry. It was oddly quiet in the common room as everyone were at breakfast when Dana entered the room, but Dana didn’t really mind. She had muggle studies first this year and there was a rumour going on that Hardy was teaching it this year as Foxcroft had taken over DADA. Hardy was one of Dana’s favorite teachers – she was smart, funny and obviously experienced. A strong character Dana enjoyed.
Grabbing her things Dana exchenged her sneakers for a pair of white heeled shows quickly before exiting her dormitory and common room and starting tomake her way to the muggle studies classroom. Gliding rather gracefully down the railing of the last staircase Dana moved down the hallway with her high heels clicking on the floor. Pushing the class-room door over Dana’s eyes easily slipped over two students there alreayd – by the looks of it both were first years – and a brilliant smile flashed over Dana’s features at the sight of professor Hardy in front of the classroom. „So you are teaching Muggle Studies!“ Dana smiled at the news. She had liked Foxcroft a lot – he was interesting – but he wasn’t leaving school and class with Hardy was good news indeed. Dana hadn’t really laughed out loud after the Express attack, but Hardy now received one of the happiest smiles Dana had given since that occurance. Hoping Hardy woulnd’t mind her small exclamation, Dana nodded at Hardy: „Morning, professor.“ Moving between the rows of seats in the classroom Dana occupied the first bench in the row that was most nearest to the windows and settled down there.

Cleo dressed casually. Or at least as casually as it was possible for her. A white button-up shirt and a pair of deep-red jeans. White, red and black were the most domineering colours in Cleo’s wardrobe. Mainly because she liked the strong colours and the fact that these colours brought out the vibrant red of her hair out perfectly as well. Her hair was the only feature she had inherited form her mother so that was the feature Cleo was most proud of. Eating calmly in the Great Hall Cleo wondered briefly were Kris was. Considering how often they met and simply argued about practically everything, she liked him a bit. He was at least a certain personlity – Cleo always knew from where Kris wouldn’t budge forward.
Glancing towards her scheduale when Cleo finally moved desserts Cleo saw that Muggle Studies was first. Cleo knew relatively much about muggles going to the muggle world rather often. But she had still gotten into some awkward moments due to simply not knowing enough on what something was or how to act sometimes. So Cleo took the class. Supposedly Hardy was giving it this year. Finishing off two pancakes filled with peanuts and honey Cleo picked upher things and strolled calmly out of the Great Hall and down the hallways. Entering the correct classroom Cleo saw that she wasn’t the first here. Two newbies – one form Slytherin and one from Gryfifndor – and Dana Coran were here already. „Good day, profesosr,“ Cleo greeted calmly as she made her way towards Dana. They knew each other. They weren’t exactly friends, but something you could call good acquintances. It had came as a shock to Cleo when Dana approached her. It was an even bigger surprise to discover that Dana and Kris were friends and cousins.
„Dana,“ Cleo greeted as she dropped her things carelessly on the bench behind the Ravenclaw 6th year and took a seat. Strumming her fingers on the table with a bit of boredom Cleo waited for class to begin.

"Ahh!! Sorry fat cat, but i gotta go!!" Flo was busy, reading her book, with Squibbles, her cat, sitting quite peacefully on her lap, when she remembered she had Muggle studies. Flo jumped up, Squibbles hissing at her, and grabbed her bag. She rushed to the class room, nearly knocking over some person iover who was sitting on one of the stairs. "Sorry!!" She called over her shoulder.
As she reached the class, Flo stopped at the door, catching her breath. She looked inside, still breathing i deeply. She saw that only four people, plus the Professor, was in the room. So she wasn't as late as she thought.
Flo walked to a seat, and sat down. She looked around, looking at the other students. one Slytherin, one Gryffindor, and two Ravenclaws. She was the only Hufflepuff there. Flo sighed and looked at the Professor, probably grading some students homework or something, Flo guessed. Flo sneezed, and put her bag on the table, reaching for a tissue.

" See ya, guys! I've got to go to class!" She waved goodbye to her friends as she left the Great Hall. Most of them were older, so there next period was free, but Cass' was not. Muggle Studies was next, and she was actually looking foward to the class. Not that she found the class useful, but it was interesting to see the muggle world through a wizard's eyes. She waved at several more people as she walked to class, and let a smile cross her happy face. Finally getting to class, she took a seat in the middle of the room near the window. She looked out to see several Hufflepuffs enjoying the afternoon. She wished she was outside, but she did need to bring home good grades. Pulling out a book, she began to read.

Luna hopped happily towards the direction of Muggle Studies. Hippo-people were muggles! Perhaps the professor woulnd’t mind telling them more about hippo-people. Luna liked hippo-people. They listened to good music and dressed perfectly. They had the best sense of style Luna had ever seen anyone show. Luna herself had made a lot of clothes for herself too. New clothes designed like hippo-people. Luna had worn her favorite hippo-clothes for class today too. A pair of purple pants that went as wide as a fluffy skirt near the floor. And a tight orange tank-top and a wide-brimmed straw-hat with white forget me not blooms hanging from it. Luna had mathing orange slip-ons too. With white blooms swinging around happily on her every step.
„Hello professor!“ Luna hopped into the classroom and continued hopping on her left and right leg in turns towards the front of the classroom. Smiling at professor Hardy there Luna twirled with her arms spread to show her outfit to the professor. Singing rather than speaking to the professor Luna started a conversation immidiately. „Are we learning about hippo-people today? I like hippo-people. They are so happy! And dress so well! Do you like my clothes? I designed them after hippo-people. Father showed me some pictures of the hippo-people and the music they listened to. Are we learning more about them in class?“ Luna smiled brilliantly and threw her arms around professor Hardy’s shoulders giving the professor a quick hug. „I adore hippo-people!“ Giving one more smile and humming Yellow Submarine under her breath Luna turned and bounced towards the first seat sitting next to the Ravenclaw prefect.

Katrina woke up and looked around her dormitory, she was feeling alone and disappointed for some reason she was dumb to. She smiled as bird's sweet songs were being sung by her window. She got up and looked around, it was empty and she wasn't surprised as most people got up before she did and most would be going to class about now so she got dressed.
She wore a pair of deep blue jeans that had crimson stitching which her mother had bought and Katrina had fallen in love with at first sight. She wore a black polo shirt which she never wore until now so it was incredibly stiff and had not faded like most of her other clothes.
She picked up her necessary books and threw them into her bag, she then found her wand which she had badly placed under her cat, who seemed to be only waking up in the afternoon. She put the wand in a spare pocket and walked down into the common room.
She waved to most of her friends and quickly asked where they're going, many had got to go to ancient runes which Katrina couldn't wait to go to. But her father had asked if she could also take Muggle studies as she had not known many muggles when she was younger.
"I'm off to Muggle Studies then!" she said, smiling as she past some seventh years as they came through the portrait hole. It had not taken her as long as she thought it would to find the classroom. It looked very strange and there were many weird equipment around the room with weird names like "telephone" and "computer".
Katrina didn't look around the room for people she knew so she sat on her own and pulled out what she thought she would be needing. She looked down at the text book. It looked like most of her subjects books but she had thought that the book would look more like a text book that a muggle student would have, but she was obviously jumping the gun there.
She started to wonder if she was the last one or if more people were going to turn up.

Liam was not haing a good morning. First he over slept and did not have the time to eat any breakfast. And what was worse is if he did not hurry, he would be late for Muggle studies. He could not afford to be late for any class this year. Liam quickly put on his most comfortable pair of pants and shirt before grabbing his robes and shoes. As he rushed out of the boys dormitory, he picked up his wand and put it in an inside pocket of his robes. As he reached the door, he picked up his bag and flung it over his shoulder.
Liam hurried down the stairs through the common room and out the portrait hole without stopping. Liam made his way down the seven flights of stairs, nearly avoiding several younger students who were on their way up the stairs. Once he reached the ground floor, Liam headed for the Muggle Studies classroom at almost a run. Liam slid to a stop outside the classroom and waited to cetch his breath before he opened the door. Liam saw several face's that looked somewhat familiar, and one he knew rather well. Liam saw Cass sitting in the middle of the room near a window and decided that he would sit near her for the day.

Kris didn’t really take muggle studies. Sure, he was a pureblood and dind’t know much about muggles, but he was a Slytherin as well. Muggles weren’t all bad. They managed to live some way, didn’t they? Besides Meredith's and Julien's cook was amuggle and Kris the best cook Kris ahd ever seen. And Kris liked cars and motorcycles. Of course his 3 cars and his motorcycle had been thoroughly been enchanced my magic in the Ministry of magic in Italy, but Kris still owned them. Muggles acually made better maids than squibs. On the whole muggles stood almost higher than mudbloods in Kris’s opinion. But that wasn’t really the reason why he was walking towards the muggle studies classroom. ’Know thine enemy’ wasn’t important really either, as Kris didn’t take muggles as enemies.
Kris entered the muggle studies classroom and gave an arrogant smirk towards professor Hardy who was giving the lesson this year. „Professor,“ Kris said acknowledging the professor before turning his head. He didn’t see the people inside the classroom so how was Kris supposed to know where Cleo sat? Yup, Kris had came to this class with one purpose only. He had been bored so he figured that bothering Cleo would be a nice. Entertaining at the very least. „Firesprite,“ Kris whispered to Morrigan who obediently hopped onto his right shoulder and Kris slowly started to move between benches. „Kris?“ Came a questioning voice of Dana and Kris stopped next to the first bench where the voice had sounded. Morrigan had extracted her claws at the same time as well. „Dana?“ Kris replied in the exact tone of voice smirking lightly upon smelling a familiar perfume.
„Ah, pharaoh. Had a nice morning, Cleopatra?“ Kris seated himself calmly in the bench behind Dana hearing an annoyed voice coming from the girl sitting next to her. Lazily making himself comfortable in the seat, Kris draped an arm comfortably around Cleo’s shoudlers, not paying any attention to the irritated shrug. Knowing that if he had had any time to learn to understand the Ravenclaw girl, she would be glaring daggers at him, Kris smirked lazily. „Yes, I know I’m gorgeous but do you have to stare so obviously?“ This time Kris earned a rather irritated huff and a rather hard poke in the ribs and a deliberate turning away from Cleo. She didn’t try to really get Kris’s hand away from her shoulders however. Perhaps she dind’t want to cause a scene? Kris let go of that thought as soon as it appeared. The girl was a real firesprite. Their ’duels’ and arguements in hallways very guite a show according to Dana. Cleo most certainly wasn't a shy person.

Well, it was time to play good student again. If he were back in the orphanage, he would have been one of the kids he made fun off. Picking on them for their prompt arrivals at class, the books they constantly had tucked under their arm, and the fact they always knew the answer. He never really meant to become that person, but Hogwarts almost seemed to be forcing himself to.
He made his way down the hall and slipped into the Muggle Studies class room, no where near cutting it short on time. His promptness almost made him sick as he slipped into a seat near the back of the class, and dropped his books heavily onto the floor beside his chair.

Emma rose early that morning, and spent about half an hour just lounging in bed with her book. Then she had risen, and washed and dressed. Setting a pair of green earrings into her lobes, she looked around her dorm. Most of the girls had already gone, and Emma thought about what she had to do today- Quality time with Armani, and Muggle Studies. Emma's blue eyes lit up- another class! Smiling, she got her bag ready then walked to the classroom. The room smelt of cleaning products- which Emma always loved. She walked to an empty set of polished tables, and sat down in one of the comfy chairs. Then she waited for the lesson to begin, while setting out her Ink and a pad of Parchment.

Ryan liked muggle studies. He liked muggles too, but you didn’t really meet with muggles in the Hogwarts castle. Being a pureblood Ryan’s knowledge of muggles was rather limited. He mainly knew only as much as he had learned in muggle studies lessons. And through trial and error during the few rare occasions Ryan had found himself in the muggle world. He had heard some from his friends who knew more about muggles, but still Ryan knew and admitted that he there was still much to know. Muggles deserved admiration after all! Living without magic must be difficult.
Stepping into the rather full classroom Ryan was startled for a moments. There were so many people here and the professor was present in front of the classroom. Ryan stopped at the door offering a bit awkward smile to professor Hardy. Looking at his watch quickly Ryan let out a breath of relief. He wasn’t late. He wasn’t early either, but he wasn’t late at the very least. “Hello, professor!” Ryan smiled to the professor much more brightly now as the small dimple in his right cheek came to view. Looking around the classroom Ryan didn’t see any of his friends that weren’t sitting with someone yet.
Making his way over, Ryan seated himself next to a bit younger Hufflepuff girl (Flo) offering her a smile too. “Hi,” Ryan whispered to the girl as he pulled out her things from his bag and placed them on the table, before having to loo at professor Hardy who was already starting the lesson.

That morning had been Leon's time with cat morning. This means he spent half an hour getting bitten to pieces by his cat, while trying to get it to 'play' with a feathered toy. Once he found that he could, and would never teach the three year old thing to be nice, he gave up, washed, dressed and then went to his first class- Muggle Studies. Leon knew he would find this interesting- once in France he had found something called a 'camera', and enjoyed trying to work out how to use it. However, like trying to tame his cat, it didn't work.
Once in the classroom, Leon looked around interestedly. Several people were already there, including one he had met, a friendly Gryffindor girl. Looking in awe at all the odd 'wires' on the walls, Leon walked to Katrina with his eyes wide.
"Wow- this is amazing! Mind if i sit with you Katrina?" He asked the girl.

Muggle Studies! First class of the day. Sita had to take this, of course she did. She'd be letting her Mum and Dad down if she didn't think of the Muggle world sometimes they spent most of their lives in. Of course, the class probably couldn't teach her as much as her mum and dad knew simply from living among Muggles for years, but still there were probably some things she didn't know. And there was no question as to whether she was going to attend the class, whether Ingrid or any of her friends intended to or not. Her mum and dad were enthused enough about the subject to make it influence their way of life, so she was curious to see what it was that had caught their attention. She had grown up almost... almost as a Muggle thanks to their life decisions so sometimes she didn't see what was so fascinating about the world as to have made them make that decision. To her, the magical world which grew ever closer as the years went by was far more interesting. The unknown, she supposed. No need to fear the unknown! Just explore it with curiosity. Get rid of the blank patches on the map.
Propping her small rucksack up on her shoulders, a white t-shirt, jeans and black trainers on underneath her day-to-day Hufflepuff robes, Sita walked towards the Muggle Studies classroom, her step light. She was managing to find her way around the castle quite well, she thought, for a newcomer. But she'd always been all right at memorizing the route she went along so she could always retrace her steps. She and Ingrid had always been able to be quite independent in their hometown of Mossley and the surrounding area around Saddleworth. So now she followed the hurried instructions an older student had given her to the Muggle Studies classroom, and found it eventually, still well in time. There were quite a few people in there already, including a Hufflepuff boy that was in her year that she hadn't really talked to much at all. Sita passed her gaze over him - boys were too icky to be talking to them all the time - and saw another girl she was sure was a first year too sitting on her own, something Pewter if she remembered correctly from the Sorting Ceremony. Sita walked up to her happily, setting down her bag on the desk next to her. She introduced herself in fairly hushed tones, considering the fact that they were in a classroom which a Professor was in, but still in a friendly way "Hi, I'm Sita. Can I sit here?"

Danielle sat looking around the classroom, it was nice and had all the things she was used to. Especially the CD's it made her think of home, in Ohio, but that was before they moved to London. Of course she still talked to her friends but it wasn't the same and she was angry that she couldn't tell them that she was a witch. Especially Khalea she knew she couldn't tell her, after all in Khalea's mind there's no such thing as a "good witch".She sighed and laughed to herself, if only she knew how evil some actually were.
Suddenly she was brought to her senses by a voice. "Can I sit here?" It had asked. Danielle turned and looked at her, what was her name again? Oh yeah Sita! "Sure," she said smiling "have a seat."

Post by Professor Amaryllis Hardy on Oct 28, 2005 19:14:00 GMT
Amaryllis smiled slightly as the first students walked into her class. Despite the fact that she'd been the Duelling Professor last year, teaching classes was very different and required a whole higher level of diligence about planning. So she was glad to see that a number of students appeared to be coming to her class. Dana Coran sounded as though something she was unsure about had been confirmed by seeing Amaryllis sitting here teaching Muggle Studies. Amaryllis was slightly surprised - she had made no secret of the fact, and it had been announced in the Welcoming Feast at the beginning of the year. But then perhaps the Ravenclaw prefect hadn't been at the Welcoming Feast. The occasion would certainly have excused any neglect of her duties as a prefect. So she merely replied calmly, "Indeed," returning the Ravenclaw's smile and greeting, "Good morning, Miss Coran."
Continuing with her marking (in green ink, of course), Amaryllis kept an eye on the clock, a steady flow of students coming into the classroom. She nodded in return to student's greetings, but was taken aback however as Luna Lovegood approached her and gave her a hug. Certainly not the sort of behaviour she was used to. But everyone had their own eccentricities. Luna's were just... particularly visible. Though rather surprised at the behaviour (coming from a sixth year especially!), Amaryllis returned the smile as best she could and attempted to answer the question that had been posed to her. "And good morning to you too, Miss Lovegood. I'm afraid we're not learning about hippies today, no, but I'll make a note to fit in a lesson somewhere if you particularly want." Amaryllis watched the Ravenclaw retreat, returning to her marking so as to resist any amused smile to herself. At least the girl had enthusiasm - that was always good. She looked up again as Kris Graas entered the classroom, and returned his greeting verbally, "Morning, Mr. Graas." Her gaze lingered on him with some surprise - as far as she was aware he didn't take Muggle Studies. She checked her class roster, which confirmed her suspicions, but decided not to say anything. If he had another class now no doubt the teacher would notice, but he was welcome to attend her class if he wanted to. She raised an eyebrow as he appeared to be not quite wanted where he was draping an arm round Miss Hardwick, not saying anything because the class hadn't begun yet and Miss Hardwick was hardly completely objecting, but determining that if he appeared to be causing trouble she would have to ask him to leave.
The bell rang and Amaryllis stood up, clapping her hands sharply to dispel the slight buzz of chatter she had allowed to develop before the start of the class. She made sure she was in a comfortable position before she started talking - while everything was getting a lot better recently healthwise she still didn't like to stand up for too long. She didn't think the students that got to sit down for most of their lessons could understand quite how strenuous teaching actually was. "Good morning, everyone," she greeted the class. "You've probably had this question before, so it should be easy to answer. Can anyone tell me why they think it's important to study Muggles and their way of life?"

Cleo scowled darkly towards Kris none the less. Since when did he even take the class! He was a Slytherin after all! Then again his arm wasn’t really that uncomfortable and so as to not give the boy the satisfaction on noticing him Cleo didn’t object. Keeping her eyes coolly on the professor Cleo managed to survive with only a few sidewards glances at Kris. And one grimace at Dana who was smirking at the rather openly. Instead of saying anything, Cleo brushed her hair back and raised her hand hvaving a bit of clue how to answer Hardy’s question.

Katrina looked around to see that a boy had asked her to sit with her. This is most peculiar for her as she mostly sat on her own. "Yeah, sure," she said indicating the seat opposite her.
She looked around to see the room was mostly of people older than her and only a few were younger. She didn't mind as she had spent way too much time with younger students.
As the teacher indicated that the lesson was starting she listen carefully and when the question was asked she shot her hand straight up. She knew that is was not a hard question and not a one with a particular wrong answer.
