Jack raised a sharp eyebrow, hiding the laughter behind his usual mask. "Yes," he said, "Gryffindors are much lower then Slytherins." He smirked at his statement but it managed to bother him. Hypocrisy was more and more common with him these days. "I knew it all along, just ignored it. That also explains that Gryffindor girl. Just a defiance method, actually." Jack growled, gazing at the water below him. He hovered near the shore, just far enough so it was deep but not too deep. Jack glanced up at Mary as she replied about Padme. He had nearly forgotten about it, after relenting the fact about Bridget. Defiance? Amusing in the way stupidity was. "Of course. But you do realize, however, you just called yourself a brat and me too. Last year anyway. " Jack smirked at Mary, raising a slow eyebrow. He swam away from her on his side, just in case she decided to throw more water in his face. Since his hair was beginning to become dry, he ducked under the cool water. Refreshed once more, Jack pushed the dark bangs away from his blue eyes as he watched Mary. "My, my Mary. Better watch those insults," Jack teased, splashing water at Mary. It didn't reach her since he had backed off far away. He grounded his teeth but grinned anyway. "And that was just luck!" He called while reaching the bank. By now, his bare torso was above the water. He began to shiver slightly. The sun's rays weren't exactly as warming as before. He glared at the blue sky before letting his gaze go back to Mary. Jack lips turned up at her as he climbed onto the bank. He had had enough water for now. It wasn't exactly enjoyable when one became water-logged, now was it? Jack picked up his wand and performed a simple drying spell on his shorts, which became dry and a little too hot then needed. Jack grimaced but pulled on his shirt, hoping Mary hadn't seen the glimpse of pain from his own spell-casting. Leaning back, he made sure there was a distance between him and Mary. "You know when we were talking about Charlie and all? And you asked me what I meant? I meant that you seem rather confused. I mean, you reprimand those who are on friendly terms with others in different Houses while you have a best-friend in Hufflepuff and another in Ravenclaw. I guess people these days in Slytherin are becoming more like that, but still...." Jack grimaced inwardly, knowing Mary wouldn't enjoy his comments. "That's all I meant by that. Nothing dramatic, eh?" ((Don't worry about the late reply. I'm full of those as well on many occasions. ))

“Oh course she was. Just as much as my short stint as house betrayer, right?” Mary replied with a knowing smirk as Jack justified the Vreeland girl as “a defiance method”. She was likely as much a defiance method as Mary’s second and third year spent befriending the other houses – Lord knows why. Sure she enjoyed the fact it sent her mother up the wall but she was also genuinely naive enough to believe in equality between the houses. She was blind. But thankfully grew out of that stage relatively quickly compared to the fools who spend their lives indignant at the obvious differenced between them.
She smirked as Jack pointed out that she had called them brats as well. “Now Mr. Rendel please listen to my words. I said first, second, and third years yes but that does not mean I was referring to last year. Last year it was really only first and second years who were brats. Granted we were far from perfect ourselves… but we were never like them now.” Mary said with a sigh.
She smirked as Jack’s water fell short of hitting her. “Why should I watch my insults? Do they do tricks?” She asked trying to look puzzled though likely coming off just amused.
Mary’s eyes flicked to Jack and she glared at him as Charlie’s name escaped his lips once more. Finally though, he was explaining himself. “Me, confused? No. Dana, Kamron, and Charlie all come from good families and I mean we all have our flaws. Now I am not saying we should all run around getting to know everyone from a good family to know if they are worthy of our attention or no but… Those 3 have proven themselves worthy already. I don’t reprimand when the people they are friends with are worthy – but that Vreeland girl was a bloody muggleborn. Surely even you must see the difference between her and Charlie?” Mary replied looking at him as though he had grown a second head suddenly.

Jack smirked at Mary but said nothing. There was no need. Mary understood the 'defiance method' apparently, so he didn't add on to it. He enjoyed the fact that Roger had gone nearly ballistic on hearing he had befriended a Gryffie mudblood. It had satisfied him for a while but heck, nothing could satisfy Jack Rendel for so long he needed nothing else. He had disposed of Vreeland after he got bored with all the play. She was just another toy to him. He hadn't really respected her as an equal, just led her into thinking that. Or so Jack thought. Maybe it had been something more, but he had convinced himself it was that and that only. He hadn't wanted to believe anything else so...he didn't.
"Yes, Ms. Evans. I understand it now." Jack let the end of his mouth cut into his cheek like a dagger. He didn't much like the third years now-a-days. They didn't have as much pride as the should. He believed they didn't own up to the Slytherin name, but he hadn't really either, at that age. "They should be stronger then they are. I'm afraid they don't realize the importance of being a Slytherin. That we're better then most." Jack struggled to find the right words but somehow those came out. He didn't care that he sounded again like a slight hypocrite. It happened to him a lot. He had done many things last year that he despised later, but it was in the past. What could he do about it beside beat himself?
He tilted his head toward Mary as she asked about her insults. "They do if you say it to the wrong person." he shot back with a smirk. He wasn't saying he was the wrong person, but if Mary did it to the wrong person one day... Jack had already experienced that with his father and it was no easy lesson to be learned. He had learned it well though, in the end. Jack listened as Mary argued his saying she was confused by pointing out the difference between Charlie and other Hufflepuffs. Jack knew this difference, but he was still a Hufflepuff! "Yeah, I can tell the slight difference. Sure, Vreeland was a muggleborn, but I was confused then - I admit. That was one of my small flaws back then. Okay, maybe it was a big flaw but I've outgrown it. I guess you're right pointing out that they come from good families but the fact they are different from Slytherins is still there. Hufflepuff isn't the best house, you know that. Ravenclaw is the second best next to Slytherin. I suppose new blood is good, for I can understand how Slytherins can become old with all their claims and all, but you have to be careful who you befriend, Mary.
"Now, before you blow up at me, let me tell you that's only my opinion. Others could be different but that's just my honest opinion." Jack blinked slowly and waited to see if water would come at him. He had been rather frank, but it could have been worse. He shrugged; some kids were okay, Mary had a point, but some just weren't worthy of befriending. Good family or not, they were Sorted into their House for a reason.

“I think a few of them do realise that they are better. But you are right about the stronger thing. As well, they just don’t seem to understand what Slytherin is about… They think it is picking fights and being misunderstood and an abundance of anger when really… it’s not. We won the house cup 7 years in a row before Wonder Boy came here… that can’t happen if they are always picking fights and thing. Why do they even waste their time with those unworthy of Slytherin attention anyways? Either that or they are, God forbid, nice to those unworthy. I know that not everyone in other houses is scum obviously but… most of them are filth. If they come from Gryffindor they obviously are considering a hero complex is a requirement for getting in there…” Mary then sighed but decided not to continue her rant about the younger students – they would hopefully learn in time.
“Really? And what tricks will they do if said to the so-called “wrong person”, Jack? Cartwheels? Back flips? I really would like to see. Because the only trick I have ever seen them do is glass over the eyes of the people I direct them at.” Mary kept on in the same “puzzled” voice as before though this time a small laugh was detectable in her voice. Nobody had ever responded to her asking if words do tricks in such a way before – she wanted to see how he could back it up. Or she wanted to see him fail to justify it, which would be even more amusing.
Mary sent a self-satisfied smirk at Jack as he conceded that she was correct in at least part of her argument. She rolled her eyes as he told her not to blow up and to be careful of who she befriended. She clicked her tongue in an annoyed way before looking pointed at him, “You don’t think I am careful, Jack? You think I am extending friendship to anyone with a good name backing them? Yes I know some purebloods are filth just like the muggleborns they associate with. I chose my friends wisely, Seur Jack, have no doubt. I am not a fool you know. Of course you know I appreciate your concern.” She said finishing her sentence with a wink at him.
