Post by Professor Rubeus Hagrid on Sept 5, 2005 18:40:19 GMT
Hagrid strode forward towards the gleaming red engine as the Hogwarts Express rolled to a stop in Hogsmeade Station. His gargantuan form cast a large shadow on the white pavement behind him. He had heard about the attack on the train, but Grawp had evidently been stationed too far up the railroad track to have been any use. The Death Eaters and giants were also extremely efficacious in their ambush; they struck and dissappeared very quickly. Hagrid thought that the Death Eaters' plan had gone too well and it caused him great exasperation. He was sure that everyone working in Hogwarts was loyal to Dumbledore, but others seemed to think otherwise. The suspicion of a traitor would only bring animosity to the school, so Hagrid tried to think as positively as he could about everyone who worked at Hogwarts. The defense of the Hogwarts Express had gone horribly wrong. One student was dead from the attack, and no Death Eaters had been caught alive. As Hagrid looked back at the train, he saw a section of it missing. "Those must be the carriages that rolled off," He thought. There were numerous injuries caused by several of the back carriages rolling off the track and that was definitely worrisome. Of course, the Headmaster was probably in his study contemplating the consequential matter of defending the school. Hagrid had unceasing faith in the great wizard and was sure that the Headmaster would be able to create a good plan for the protection of the school.
As students began filing out of the various compartments, Hagrid called out, "First years, over here!! Over here!! Come on, now! Don' push!!" He looked around, waiting for the first years to gather around him. There were so many students milling about and because of the size of the older students, it was very hard for Hagrid to spot the first year students through the crowd. A bit impatient and worried that the first years would be trampled, Hagrid shouted once more over the din, "Firs' years! Come on over! Gather 'round, gather aroun'!!"

Padme inhaled the air as she stepped off the train. It was the first breath she was going to take at Hogwarts. Well, she was really on the Grounds but so what? She walked foreword into the crowd, pushing her way along, keeping her eyes on Jack and Jack only. She just felt like following him and she could get lost in this crowd. She sniffed a bit indignantly when someone stepped on her foot and went off without apologizing. Why did she have to be so small and insignificant next to this bigger, smarter kids? She ran head-long into Jack when he stopped and pointed through the crowd. A huge shadow loomed near the train and Padme realized it must be the gamekeeper, Hagrid, of whom Jack had explained. She nodded and waved goodbye to her brother before traipsing through the dense crowd, shoving here and there to get through. It took longer then she would of liked, but it might have possibly been because she couldn't think of anything except her Mother. How was she doing? Was she going to be alright or was she off doing something extremely stupid and crazy? Padme's lips drooped down and her pushing became more intense until she finally reached the enormous monster of a man. She looked up at him with a raised eyebrow. She felt like an ant next to him and it didn't help that she was small for her age.
Standing back on her heels, she rocked back and forth, keeping her eyes off the giant man and at the crowd. She seemed to be the first first year to stand near Hagrid, or maybe the others were around and she just couldn't recognize them through the mass of people. They were, however, on the edge of the crowd so it did help some. She looked through the crowd for someone familiar that would be in her House. Araine would be sufficient. At the moment, she couldn't think of any others although she had met quite a few over the summer. Her thoughts were too preoccupied to think of anything else. She hadn't even seen Mack or Dix since she had left the train. At least they would be watching the Sorting. She smirked with apprehension. It was hard to wait for the moment when the hat would most definitely shout out, "Slytherin!" Almost shivering in her excitement, she crossed her arms over her chest sulkily and waited impatiently for others to arrive.

Iseo was still inside the train talking with her new pals (maribel and Aedan), when she heard a grave voice calling from outside the first years....she was still sitting with her new pals Mirabel & Aedan. The tree of them were still sitting in a cabin in front of the train, talking about different topics in order to calm down little Mirabel who was still sobbing on her brother shoulder.
Iseo look trough the window and noticed that the voice calling for the first years came from a very big man, almost a giant and she told her friend: ”hey Mirabel, A big guy, is calling for us, the first years, I guess he is a teacher we must hurry up.”
Mirabel was refusing to be separated from his brother.. but it seems he couldn’t go with Iseo and Mirabel because he was not a first year student. Iseo was trying to be very sweet to Mirabel in order to convince her of going with her to join the big guy. “come on Mirabel, is our first day, whatever had happened must have not been so bad.. we are already at Hogsmeade Station, I’m sure if there was a problem the train for sure was to go back to the station. What you reckon Aedan?” Aedan talk few words with his little sister, and it seems he convinced her on going with Iseo to meet the other first years with the big guy.
The 3 of them came out of the train and their mounths and eyes came wide open at once when they saw the back of the train.. it was far away to be in the same condition as it was when they departed from King Cross Station.. the last cars were almost vanished…. And there were rumours that some people were injured and moved in a hurry to the hospital Wing at Hogwarts.
Iseo try not to panic in order to show bravery to little Mirabel…bus Iseo was pretty scared in her heart.

Hayden quickly hopped off of the train, once she had heard a loud, booming voice calling for all of the first years. Her knees were knocking together slightly, as she followed the other children that looked about her age, and tried her best to follow the sound of the voice. She had to duck a few times, and quickly move out of the way, so she wouldn't get trampled by the older students.
She was really excited about going to Hogwarts, so she was just bursting with energey! However, she had more of mixed feelings now. After the Diagon Alley attack, she had always been more careful to what she did, definality more frightened. She was afraid that the Death Eating People, or whatever they were called, would attack Hogwarts, or attack any other place that Hayden decided to travel to. She had been seperated from Sadie, when she had to go with the rest of the older students, which made her even more nervous. Sadie was one of her closest friends, and one of the only ones that she felt comfortable around, especially since she was already a second year at Hogwarts, and had been with Hayden when they were both attacked and injured in Diagon Alley.
Hayden emerged from the crowd of students, when she saw the most largest man she had ever seen. "Wow..." she whispered, looking up at the man. "he's probably even taller than the Jolly Green Giant!" Hayden was a halfblood, and she grew up a muggle, so she used expressions like that often, that wizards or witches wouldn't know very well. She moved up closer to the man, with the other students that were starting to gather around him, that Hayden figured to be first years. As she stood there and waited for the man's next direction, she looked around in complete awe at the castle, the man, and how many students the train was carrying!

Thien took a step off the train. His first train ride to Hogwarts was an eventful one. Student rivalries, death eaters and sadly deaths.
He felt a breeze of relief blew across his face. Thien continued to walked across the grounds as more students and teachers came off the train.
Thien looked around for any clues to were he was to be in this little chaos. Thien blinked, surprising there was a huge person, but too small to be a giant. What surprised him the most was that huge person was becking the first years to follow him. There was already a sea of hair He raising just above the big man waist. "He's so big." Thien thought. Then slowly he begain to join the crowd of first years.

Reluctantly Mirabel separated from her brother and followed Iseo. She was still shaken from the incident on the train that had brought back memories from the attack in Diagon Alley. Aedan promised he would see her shortly and kissed her forehead before he wandered off to join his friends. It's so easy for him, she thought to herself, he already knows people. She climbed into the boat behind Iseo and hugged her knees to her chest.
Mirabel could be brave on her own. She'd show Aedan and Iseo she could do things on her own. Besides if Aedan reported to her grandmother how frightened she was she might pull her from Hogwarts. Mirabel definitely did not want that. She listened as the gigantic man in a boat in front of them talked. Soon enough she would be sorted and eating dinner. Sighing she looked out over the water. It won't be that bad, she told herself, you'll make friends with your dorm mates at least.

Iseo was wondering why are so few first students gathering around the big guy... maybe people is not going to hogwarts this year with all the recent events with death eaters.
Is so sad, that people is so frightened.
Anyway it was a very nice night, and the sky was full of stars, the moon was shinning very brightly and the shape of an enormous castle was glittering over the lake surface. Some little boats were grouped in a little harbor And Mirabel and Iseo climbed into one of them.
" are you feeling better Mirabel? You will rejoin Aedan in the school. We took a different way because we are first years so we must go trough the sorting hat ceremony. I've read in Hogwarts, a history, that the rest of the school go to the casttle in some carriages trough a faster path so they are all waiting for us when we finish crossing the lake"
"I wonder how many first years will join us this year... it looks like we are not many this year, what a pity, I wanted to meet lot of friends"

Rowen pushed up from the seat he had taken during the train ride and made his way from the compartment down the crowded alley way between and off the train only to find that he was still surrounded by more adolescent witches and wizards that he ever cared to see in one place and one time. He wove through the crowd, not bothering to be careful of his path, and being fully aware of when his shoulder bumped hard against another students, though he never bothered to look back at them. He had only had his feet back on solid ground for a few moments when he heard a loud, deep voice calling for first years and when he looked up he saw the largest man he had ever seen in his life. Now, the Big Guy, as he had taken to calling his new foster father, was a tall man, but his one he face now could not have been fully human. There was no way in all the magical world he could have grown that large with out some sort of outer influence.
Not exactly in a mood for socializing with those who would be in his hear he made his way closer to the over sized man and stood slightly off from the rest, making sure to keep a mean looking scowl on his face just in case someone came over to make friends. After standing for a moment, he saw a girl who he thought looked vagely familiar. His eyes narrowed slightly as he thought, trying to remember where he may have seen the blonde little girl and then it hit him. Her name was Hayden, and he had seen her in a muggle bookstore one day over the summer. After a moment, he decided to break his anti-social behavior and he moved a step closer to her. "Look who turned out to be magical after all."

Emma Blake stepped with a smile off of the middle train compartment. The place was covered with students, big and small. Emma turned quickly as she heard a loud, gruff voice calling for 'firs' years. As she turned, her long, sleek black hair whipped in the face of another person, who she apologized to then carried on. She couldn't see her new friends Mariza and Gerek anywhere, but hoped someone else would make friends with her. Heading towards the loud voice, Emma gasped as she saw the speaker. He was almost twice as tall as a normal man and at least five times as wide. He looked simply too big to be allowed, and so wild - long tangles of bushy black hair and beard hid most of his face, he has hands the size of dustbin lids and his feet in their leather boots were like baby dolphins. His face was almost completely hidden by a long, shaggy mane of hair and a wild, tangled beard, but you could make out his eyes, glinting like black beetles under all the hair.

Time was passing by and other few first years noticed they were being called by the big guy!
While they were waiting Iseo thought it was the perfect chance to go ask the big guy what was supposed to happened next and the guy's name... it was not nice to refer about him as the big guy all the time.. Iseo approached the big guy a little bit shy "hum...hum (clearing troath) ... pardon me sir...but I was wondering what will happened now? are we waiting for more students? or there are no more coming this year with the past events? -in a more confident tone and almost whispering -you know! events with those death eaters? And shall I ask your name? are you a professor?"
Iseo was waiting for some answer from this almost Giant person when other 3 students came closer. There was a tall and thin girl approaching to the boats. She had long black hair and looked like if she was looking for someone. Iseo asked her:
"Hey.. first year too? are you looking for someone?. This is Mirabel and I ' am Iseo,we met each other in the train, and we are new this year, maybe we can talk meanwhile the other first years arrive? anyway maybe we are not so many this year unfortunately!"

As Emma aproached the still shouting giant, a girl introduced her and her friend. Emma smiled at them both. "Well, i suppose it'll be good if there aren't too many slytherins!" Emma chuckled softly. "Hi Iseo, I'm Emma. I hope we leave soon, i'm getting cold!" Emma fell into her 'try to be straight-away friendly' mode, and it seemed to work.

Pandora weaved her way in and out of the mass of bodies forming around her, once or twice she was forced to duck under a swinging arm or dodge some fool backing up without looking. She hated being small and shot one or two dangerous glares at people who were rude or more likely, simply didn’t see her. Finally after much jostling and pushing, Pandora reached the small crowd of first years gathering around the largest man she had ever laid eyes on. His massive frame filled the view before her, a large bushy beard and the numerous furs he was adorned with gave the over-whelming impression of some great lumbering bear waiting for the smaller students to get within reach. She held back a bit, not out of fear (she quickly reminded herself) but out of simple caution. His great voice boomed out once more over the first year’s heads and Pandora could swear she felt the vibration in her toes with each word.
Glancing about, Pandora scanned the thickening crowd around her for signs of anyone she knew and spotted Padme about 5 feet to her left. She began searching for the familiar form of Ariane. She was certain she couldn’t miss Ariane’s graceful movements among all this clatter and clamor, it would be like searching for silk amidst bins of cotton. Ariane would make sure she was seen and Pandora was craving the company of those she felt worthy of her time. It would also be nice to have a familiar face she knew to an extent. Pandora raised a haughty eyebrow at anyone who got too terribly close to her as if daring them to try their luck and then resumed scanning the crowd. Her attentions were given in full back to the hulking beast before her only when he began to bellow out to them again.

"Leapin' lizards..." Ingrid breathed as she stared up at the rather large man in front of her. Many years before, Ingrid had felt short. But she felt nothing compared to this guy. He was yelling at all the first years to gather around him, which wouldn't be too difficult. Ingrid smiled up at him and took a step forward, trying to speak- but deciding against it. She was going to school, and she needed to be on her best behaviour. Which would be rather hard for her to do. Her best behaviour consisted of large amounts of talking and no pratical jokes. When Ingrid had realised this, she had gone into a rather sour mood. It wasn't going to be any fun without practical jokes.
Butterflies where in her stomach, and she felt them flutter around wildly. She cast a look at her best-friend, Sita Mehadi and breathed in and out. Trying to get rid of those darn butterflies. Ingrid looked back at the large man and waited for him to explain things. Afterall, that's what he was there for, right? Ingrid wasn't quite sure, but she knew she wanted to get to Hogwarts as soon as possible. Ingrid wanted to begin her journey in that school and she wanted to do it soon. Not in an hour. Soon. In maybe, twenty minutes or so. She doubted that would happen. But still. She wanted it. Just like she wanted that pony and the roller coaster in her backyard.

Claira was excited... was that the word for it? Anxious? There was the undoubted feeling of excitment as she followed the booming voice calling for First Years. The uneasy feeling of nervousness was plauging her stomach, but her head was spinning with sheer delight. She was so excited/uneasy/nervous that she couldn't even talk to those around her. Students crowded about her as she pushed her way through, trying to find the owner of the booming voice. It wasn't until she saw the man who asked for the new students did she feel a bit scared. The man was HUGE! She couldn't describe how he looked. Scarey? Large? What was he anyway? A giant? No, too small to be a giant... or was he? Claira had always pictured giants as tall as the clouds, but she could be wrong. Maybe the large man with the tangled black beard who held the bright lantern before her was a giant... she couldn't tell, but as she neared the man, she finally could see his eyes. They screamed kindess and she finally relaxed. Not all of the tension in her shoulders left her, but some. She noticed other first years around her and wanted to say hello to the blonde girl next to her, but nerves had closed her throat so that she couldn't speak.
She stood there, amungst the crowd of new students, waiting for the large man to explain what was going to happen, or where they were going. Her eyes suddenly scanned the rippling water of a lake and boats sitting by the lake shore. Fear spiked through her once again. She hoped with all her heart that they wouldn't have to go on the lake. She was fine with swimming and water, no problem... but dark, almost black water at night going who knows where? That was scarey!

Ariane exited the train compartment she was in. Not giving a second glance at her luggage she was certain that it would be taken to the castle by the house-elves. She just hoped the filthy little creatures would take care and not get their stentch attached to her trunk. With her head held high and the almost regal air around her Ariane had no problems walking through the first years. She didn’t have any hesitations, any doubts. At the very least it wasn’t raining when they would be crossing the lake. Oh yes, Ariane knew about what would be in store for them. Her mother had told her all about it, so she would be able to act accordingly. Not that Ariane would let something so small shake her cool and collected appearance.
The great big oaf of a grounds-keeper was shouting for people to gather round and Ariane turned towards him. Her back was straight but she was most surely taking her time while walking. No half-giant would force her to rush. With the grace and elegance one couldn’t learn if you hadn’t been born with it Ariane covered the distance swiftly. „Yes, we are here and whoever is left behind should take the train back already to save the rest of us from having to tolerate their idioticity,“ Ariane sneered as the man hollered out loudly again with her voice cutting. Sweeping past some others who seemed to have been huddled close together and looking around with wide eyes Ariane sneered. These people were unbelievable. Ariane would never let herself be caught with such... simple-minded expressions becasue of nothing what-so-ever.
She offered a brief nod to the other people she knew. People, who might be worthy of carrying on the heritance of the great Salazar Slytherin. People who actually had some class in them at some cases or at least had been fortunate enough to be born into a proper family. Padme Rendel who had shared a compartment with her on the way to Hogwarts received a curt nod. Pandora Munio who had been present when Ariane bought her owl Phosporus received a nod as well. Blank eyes that didn’t give away any thoughts settled on a faintly fmailiar girl. An off-spring of the St.Johns might be worth her attention if she was sorted into her families rightful house. Xanthe Rothwell – the girl Ariane knew best out of them – received a bit deeper nod and a slight curve of her lipcorners.
Cold brilliantly green eyes fell onto the half-giant once again as Ariane stopped a few feet away from him. Brushing a long strand of hair back so it was falling over her back with the rest of the natural locks Ariane arched her eye-brows: „Those of us with enough brain-capacity are here so stop trying to destroy our hearing and led the way while bringing the light with you. I do not want to step into some puddle and ruin my shoes.“ Ariane waited and once the man finally started moving followed him with graceful steps with each of her steps being as long as the previous one. She didn’t hide the fact she was exited from herself, even though no one else shouldn't have been able to read it out from behind her serene exterior. Ariane was exited of being here finally, of being able to see other Slytherins, others who held up the same values she did. She wasn’t afraid of the mans bigness – she had seen giants before as her parents believed in giving her a wide range of knowledge. Her parents had told Ariane that he held no importance in the magical world so Ariane treated him the same way she would treat one of her servants.

The train journey had been a bit frightening. It had all been very exciting, but then the train stopped for quite a well and the rumours spread like wildfire along the train that the Hogwarts Express had been attacked! That was a very scary thought, and although Sita had been doing her best throughout the journey to stay bright and cheery and let the bubbly excitement inside her make its way to the surface again from where it had been suppressed with news of a possible attack. She'd wanted to talk to Ingrid about it, because she was always able to talk to Ingrid about serious stuff if she really needed to. Even though she preferred to be enthusiastic. And she'd wanted to talk to her mum about it, because her mum was always able to persuade her that things would be all right, whenever she felt any doubt. Her stomach was full of butterflies as she stepped off the train onto the platform, stumbling slightly as she did so, which didn't help her feel less nervous. The charm her dad had put on her trunk to make it lighter for her to carry was starting to wear off, and she could feel it dragging down on her arms a little a bit, both of them since she was carrying it in front of her in a way that made it bump on her legs as she walked. It was sort of comforting and she smiled at her best friend Ingrid, who was beside her, too. It was nice to know that at least she did have a friend here, before she even started school. She was going to be in the same house as Ingrid, that she knew. How could she not be? She'd heard lots of people saying they were inseperable, and that wasn't because they were complete opposites, the North and South poles of a magnet. Did you call them poles? Well, you called the things at the top and bottom of the earth poles so she'd call the different forces at the top and bottom of the magnet poles too, at least for now. But she and Ingrid would be in the same house, they had to be. Sita gulped as she looked up at the man who had called her over. She'd been looking down at her feet and had just been observing that he seemed to have rather large feet. He needed to, it turned out, to support the rest of his rather bulky form. He was a giant, he couldn't be anything else. He looked rather alarming, with a great big bushy beard and he towered over her and the rest of the first years that were gathering round him. But he was beaming at them, so presumably he was benign. And even though she didn't have a tape measure with him, from her rough estimate he didn't look as tall as the pictures of giants her mother had shown her when telling her about them. So maybe he wasn't a giant. He still looked rather like one though. He was too big to be normal. She stole another doubtful look at him, and then tried to look past him (which was difficult because he was towering in her view) at the castle and at the water in the large lake in front of it, inky black, the edge sipping gently against the soil. Nothing of which her parents had been prepared to reveal could have made her comprehend just how beautiful the castle of Hogwarts was! Light glimmered out of the castle windows in the gathering gloom and were reflected as small diamonds on the dark surface of the lake. There seemed to be some creaky little wooden boats on the lake? Were they going to cross the lake in those? A boating trip in the dark! Fun! Sita smiled brightly at Ingrid and hauled her trunk to the side of her. ((Thanks for waiting. ))

"All righ'! You're all 'ere! I'll be takin' you lot across the lake in those boats.-Hagrid pointed at a fleet of small boats floating on the shore closest to where they were standing.- Remember, it's four ter a boat, unless you want your boat to sink," Hagrid said brightly as he lead the way down to the shore, his large lantern shining as brilliantly as the moon that hung in the Cimmerian sky above him. When he reached the boats, Hagrid got into the first one, putting his lantern atop a pole that protruded from the row boat's hull. As he sat down, the rowboat groaned loudly, as if to say that it would not be able to hold his collosal size and weight and it sunk a considerable distance into the fathoms deep lake. Hagrid waited patiently for every student to find a boat and with a tap of his umbrella on the stern of the miniscule boat, the fleet moved foward. Every now and then, one of the boats would be sprayed with water because of the gust that was picking up across the capacious lake and the large waves it made. Hagrid stared absent-mindedly up at the stars that covered the night sky, remembering the variances in weather every year he had brought the first years across the lake. He clearly reminisced what had happened three years ago. They had been weathering a storm that nearly made the fleet of boats capsize. There were gargantuan walls of impregnable water that pounded them for a terrible fifteen or so minutes. Rubeus remembered that a mousy-haired boy by the name of Dennis Creevey had fallen in the lake, only to be pushed back into his boat by the Giant Squid. As Hagrid gazed at the clear night sky and the relatively calm lake, it felt almost surreal that anything bad had ocurred earlier that afternoon.
After another five minutes, the boats drifted into a small cove and Hagrid got off the boat. He put his hand on the handel of a largem wooden door that was built into the side of the cave wall and wrenched it open. A draft of welcoming, warm air issued from the passageway lit by large torches. "All righ', everyone!! Just follow me an' I'll lead you to where you'll be waiting before the sorting ceremony starts!" Hagrid lead the way up the passageway and to the entrance hall where the doors to the Great Hall were closed. Then, without further ado, Hagrid walked into a side chamber that led into the Great Hall and took his seat at the teacher's table. The sorting ceremony would commence once McGonagall explained what the first years would have to do; try on the sorting hat.
((I'll let McGonagall continue with this post.))

Pandora raised one finely shaped eyebrow as the huge man before her informed them they would be taking boats across the lake; the eyebrow raising even higher as he stepped into his own boat and almost sank the rickety thing. Pandora shadowed Ariane’s movements and followed her to a nearby boat, casting a murderous glance at an unfortunate Gryffindor who thought of getting in the boat with them, and then turning a doubtful eye on the small wooden craft before them. Pandora climbed in and made a hopeless attempt to brush off her seat before lowering herself genteelly onto it. “What exactly is the point of putting on our school robes if they’re going to make us get them all filthy before we even arrive?” she grumbled softly and, glancing across the lake with some trepidation, she pulled her robe a little tighter around her small frame.
As the boats slipped silently over the obsidian glass surface of the lake, Pandora moved her eyes from the rippling orange diamonds of light cast by Hagrid’s lantern to the imposing structure nestled on the hill just across the way. Even from here its massive size was evident. It sat like some gigantic dragon perched upon the lake’s edge, its windows giving off warm orange light like glittering scales in the darkness. She looked back down to the water and watched her own reflection, imagining the common room now passing below them and hoping she would soon be sleeping there; it struck her as an odd and gloomy thought to want to sleep at the bottom of the lake. She sat back upright and allowed her posture to revert to normal, which meant she was sitting as if in front of a great audience awaiting her coronation; and wiped indignantly at the sea spray that caught her in the face from time to time.
As the boats finally pulled into the cove, she stepped lightly onto the shore (though she noted with some small measure of bitterness, not quite as elegantly as Ariane) and moved once more with the throng of other students into a large waiting room. Her eyes flowed around the room and across the students once more, judging everyone’s reactions to the mounting tension of the sorting ceremony. She at least, was suddenly calm. It felt right at last. She was meant to be here and she was positive now that she would, indeed, be sorted into Slytherin as was her birthright. It was now just a matter of waiting.
