Mack smiled a small smile, but it wasn't a whole smile- it was just a smile to show him that she wanted to help. She wasn't exactly aware of how she could help, though. Sure she had an idea, but like most of her ideas- this one probably was horrible. She sighed and looked back outside, just in time to see that flower be trampled on by some little kid who was chasing after a toy. She closed her eyes, counted to five, then reopened them in time to see the little kid pick up the flower and place it upright on it's stem. Mack smiled widely at that, "Maybe...this is something Padme needs to work out, Jack." The flower had given her a thought that hadn't occurred to her. One finds inspiration in the weirdest of places.
"I'm not saying she should absolutely, bluntly ask your father for help and or money, but maybe this is something she needs to do on her own. Something that she doesn't need her big brother to help her with? I know, when I was little-er, I wouldn't want Dix's help for anything. And here I am thinking about asking her for legal help..." Mack put her head in her hands, letting her brain rack for details. She was losing it. Losing it all. She rubbed her temples- getting a small head ache. She was thinking too much, but Jack and Padme both needed her help and she was going to give as much as she could, "Roger gives no money to Tessa at all? None for supporting Padme?" She asked slowly.
((Sorry so short...))

Jack raised his eyebrows at Mack as she suggested maybe Padme needs to work it out on her own. After his little talk with her he knew that was what she wanted; not to be protected by her big brother. But - he felt that this was not for her - she was too young. Eleven was far too young to have to deal with this. Thirteen was too, Jack thought dryly, but it was better then eleven. He sighed and shook his head. When would Mack understand? There family was screwed; totally berserk and Jack and Padme had to pay the price for the sins of their parents. He sometimes wished that he could just be a normal child with normal parents who cared about him and loved each other. He wished that he had grown up with his sister just like he was supposed to. He wished things were the way things were supposed to be. It just so happened though that Jack was the unlucky one. The one that was picked to be put through something miserable. Mack was the only person who could help him. She knew about family problems better then anyone else he knew. It was probably because of her family and their problems that were even worse then Jack's own. He swallowed and forced himself to think about what Mack was telling him. Her words went with what Padme had screamed at him just a few days ago. He knew they might as well be right but he still wanted to do something to help.
"Maybe. But I feel as if I'm drowning in the sins of our parents. Do you ever feel that way? If it hadn't been for them then me and Padme would have grown up together. Life would be different. I just wish it were so...." he stopped when Mack said she was thinking about asking Dix for legal help. What did Mack need help with? "What do you mean? Legal help? What's going on Mack? Why do you need help?" Jack asked, worry pulsing through his voice. He managed to keep it at a minimum however, for that was what had caused Padme to explode at him. He didn't feel like watching Mack do the same. He watched her carefully and when she asked the other questions her tried to answer them shortly.
"Yes, no money at all. He doesn't know about Padme though, remember? Otherwise, she would be in his custody right now. I want to keep it that way. She doesn't need to suffer anything at Rogers' hand." he sighed before continuing. "He burned all of Tessa's possessions and pictures when she left. I looked all over the house for some but I found none. The only place I didn't look is his bedroom, which I'm too cowardly to enter. Of course, he wouldn't put her picture in there." Jack laughed coldly before turning his attention back to Mack. "You're having problems then? Tell me."
((No worries))

"Drowning in the sins of your parents..." Mack echoed lightly. She let that thought run through her mind and tried to understand what it meant. She didn't exactly feel as if she were drowning in the sins of her parents, maybe she felt like she was paying for the horror Derreck Holden had bestowed upon the rest of the Holden family. She didn't see why Pam didn't just..divorce him. She had the money. Mack mentally shrugged and actually sighed, feeling the pain wear her down.
She held up her hand slightly, and a waitress came- "Can I get a coffee please? Black? Thanks." Mack turned to Jack and shook her head, "It's nothing. Just some stuff to do with my dad. What else is new? Right now, let's focus on your problem. Ok? I feel like...nevermind." She said as her coffee was brought to her. Mack took a drink of it and looked back at Jack. Roger wasn't sending money. Right. He didn't know Padme existed. Right. When he said he didn't want Padme to suffer anything at Roger's hand, Mack looked up:
"Did you ever think, that if Padme was with you two, your dad wouldn't be abusive?! That's the only reason I keep Dixie around when I am at the house. My dad wouldn't think of hurting me in the presence of my sister. If Padme was living with you guys, maybe he wouldn't be as harsh as he is to you." Mack said this...looking at him straight in the eye. If he was going to yell at her, then he was going to yell at her. She wouldn't stop him.

Jack nodded while fingering the designs he had seen earlier in the wood. It kept him busy when there was silence. He swallowed and continued to trace, trying to keep his whole mind on what he was doing. But that was nearly impossible. How in God's name was he supposed to do that with everything else running to and fro around his over-worked brain. He sighed and looked up with a wry smile as Mack said they would worry about his problem. "For now." he replied. "I want to help you out too." he curved his finger slightly as the design started to squiggle to the left. He followed it. It was like following a road that went around and around in circles. Just like he felt. He swallowed again before pushing his empty butterbeer away.
"I'll have coffee too. Black." he smirked at Mack and raised an eyebrow as she suggested maybe it would be better if Padme was around. He shouldn't have thought anything more though. After all, Mack didn't know Roger like he did. "No, it would only make matters worse. Anyway, what about Tessa? Padme's the only thing she has left now! I don't think she's ready to have her taken away!" Jack shook his head and closed his eyes. He was becoming tired; so very tired. He thought of his bed back home and how welcome it would feel once he feel into it after this conversation. He hoped Mack had a way to help him out of this for he had a feeling that Padme was already up to something. Remaining still, Jack shook his head.
"I think you're right. I'll let Padme do her thing and maybe she'll rescue herself and Mother out of their position." he smirked as though he doubted it but let the matter rest anyway. Looking back at her, Jack narrowed his eyes. "Now, tell me what Derrek Holden has been up to lately. I want to know."

Mack sighed and lowered her head onto the table. Her coffee sloshed in her cup and she didn't care that it was spilling over the edge and into her hair, if only the tips. Her eyes closed- she didn't get enough sleep last night. She had fallen asleep on the sofa around 5 and had been woken up at 7. She tried to listen to Jack, but it wasn't exactly coming as it should and she had to sit up and focus her gaze on him to get exactly what he was saying. He finished talking about Padme, saying he would let her work it out, "Good idea..." Mack said as she stifled a yawn.
Then he asked what Derreck was up to. Loads. But she didn't want to feel like she was piling all her problems onto Jack, which she felt she was doing. She hoped her life would simmer down a bit after Pam, Dixie, and her get settled in their apartment. Mack sighed for what seemed to be the millionth time that day and took a drink of her coffee, before considering to respond:
"I don't want to drown you in my problems. Just know that Derreck took everything, my guitars and everything in the house- including the house. Mum has money and all, but not enough to live like we used to. So we're looking for an apartment. That's it. That's all." Mack told him with a smile that said that wasn't it, and that wasn't all; but it was it and all she was going to tell him for the time being.

Jack watched Mack carefully. She seemed so tired. He bet that if he tried to lift her she would be a dead-weight. He tried to smile but seeing Mack this way made him feel sad and sorry. He wanted to know what Derrek had done to his daughter now to ruin her life. But, if Derrek hadn't done those things to Mack she just wouldn't be....Mack. She would be some spoiled rotten girl, perhaps like Padme or worse, if that was possible. She would be completely twisted and cunning like some Slyths were or maybe she would be quiet and thoughtful. Jack smirked, knowing the chances of that would be low. He was sorry for Mack but he didn't voice it, considering she would become rather angry with her if he did. Instead he laid his head on his arms which were resting on the table. He kept one eye on Mack and the other remained closed. Finally, she spoke for what seemed like an eternity for Jack but it must have been just a few seconds. It sounded like their house was in complete chaos. He scowled and looked at Mack clearly, worry expressing through his eyes. "That... monster! That's what he is. A monster. I can't believe he would do this. What about your mother? Why didn't she divorce him in the first place if she knew he was out with different women? It's ridiculous!" he moaned before drinking his coffee in one cup. It didn't taste as good as it should. He glared at the contents inside. How could someone do that to their own daughter. And he thought Roger bad..... Taking Mack's hand slowly he held it firmly. "If you ever need me I'm just a country away." he smiled before shaking his head. "It can't work out though. I live in Scotland and you England." he sighed before dropping her hand and standing up. Mack looked so tired and he didn't want to be the one to keep her up all night. "You should go home and sleep. You look dead tired. We can keep in touch by writing. But, for now, you need to go." he smiled, walked to the door, but paused. Turning around, he grinned. "Good night." he then left before Mack could protest, making himself not look back. ((Sorry it ended so abruptly. Jack will write Mack though in the Owlery.))
