Amaryllis closed the door of the duelling classroom with a bang. It was a heavy door, and as she closed it the noise from the end of the day rush ceased to penetrate the room. Amaryllis' day was not yet over - she was waiting for two students to arrive for a duel. She had been approached by one of them, a rather thickset boy, Mr. Goyle, and had informed both of them to come to the duelling classroom at Tuesday, at half past four, which was just over five minutes from now. She understood that Miss Coran was a fifth year Ravenclaw, while Mr. Goyle was a sixth year Slytherin. She just hoped neither of them had a habit of being late - to Amaryllis time was always precious.
Amaryllis checked her watch, and sat down at a desk to silently await the arrival of the two students, flicking through one of her books which she had left lying on the desk. The classroom could be made more cosy, but that could be distracting during duels. Maybe a fresh coat of paint, anyway. Amaryllis made a note to send off for a catalogue from Anna's Amazing Interiors. Despite the rather corny name, they did have a lot of choice. Maybe she would even be inspired to put a hint of colour on one of the walls.

Dana was outside with a couple of friends, just enjoying the early spring and chatting. She knew that she had a duel with a sixth year Slytherin later, but Dana wasn’t really worried. Even if she should loose, it would be awesome practice for her Defence Against Dark Arts O.W.L.s. Goyle wasn’t really the brightest person on earth, but he had experience and 6 years of practice, so he would be a rather tough opponent still. Glancing at his watch, Dana saw that it was about time to get going, so she waved good-bye to her friends and strolled towards the castle. She had decided on pants to wear today – it might be rather inconvenient to duel while wearing a skirt. Finishing up her apple on the way, Dana moved towards the dueling classroom. She had her wand and anything else would just get in the way there, so Dana hadn’t brought anything else along anyway.
By the time Dana reached the classroom door, her apple was already eaten. Dana didn’t care much for sweets, but she had a rather enormous appetite. Luckily it didn’t show on her figure though. Entering the class-room Dana’s eyes focused on the professor already there. “Hello, professor,” Dana greeted calmly but with a hint of a smile on her lips, as she closed the heavy door quietly. She had heard about professor Hardy – she was supposed to be a strong woman and smart and good at what she did as well. And fair – that was important as well. Even her cousin hadn’t seemed to mind her much, even though she caught him in the Forbidden Forest.
Dana glanced at her own watch and saw that she still had 5 more minutes to spare. Dana was never late. She was sometimes a bit early rather, but never late. Goyle wasn’t there though, so Dana just settled down next to a window to wait for the Slytherin boy.

Goyle walked down the corrider toward the duelling classroom, not really trying to be fast or anything. He knew the duell was about to start. But why be early, the duel wouldnt start untill the set time and he didnt want to stand around and look stupid. He grined to himself as he thought about the duel to come. Ever since the hallway incident between him and Dana, hed been wanting to start the duel. He had no doubt in his mind he was going to win. He was a sixth year and very good at combat magic. Although he had been bested a few times, the memory of the train his fifth year came to mind, but that didnt matter, they had cheated somehow that day.
He reached the classroom with just under a minuet to spare and opened the heavy set door. He steped inside to see the professor, and Dana, calmly waiting. He threw a nod at the professor. "Im here professor." Than he looked at Dana. "Ready for this? Not like it matters, ready or not, you will loose." He shut the door with a loud bang and walked over to them, pulling out his wand.

Amaryllis nodded as Mr. Goyle stepped through the door, closing it with maybe rather more force than necessary. This was evidently not going to be a friendly duel between the two, in which case she would have to remind them of the rules. She glanced at Mr. Goyle sharply, as she disliked it when people insulted their opponents before the duel. She had always been taught that pride came before a fall. Before the start of the duel, it was impossible to tell. "I am aware of that, Mr. Goyle," she said, standing up from where she was sitting at her desk. "Miss Coran, please take your place on the blue circle, Mr. Goyle, please take your place on the orange star." She walked over so she could see more clearly the progress of the duel, to make sure there was no underhanded business and no nastiness other than the competitiveness which was obviously going to be present. "The dueling rules apply to both of you. Only cast one spell at a time, and once the duel is over, do not cast any more spells. If your opponent resigns, the duel is over." Amaryllis paused to make sure they had taken in the rules, although, from the steely expressions which greeted her, she thought it was probably safe to presume the duellers would go on to the end. "Bow to your opponent, and Miss Coran, you may begin when ready."

Dana didn’t react as Goyle shut the door rather force-fully. Arching one eye-brow towards Goyle sarcastically, Dana just moved to the blue ring professor Hardy had directed her to. “Don’t get cocky, Goyle,” Dana reprimanded sending a dazzling grin towards her opponent. It must have been a family-trait to always fight with a smile. Usually it made the opponent upset lowering her accuracy and disturbed logical thinking, “I win either whether I win or loose. This is perfect practice for my O.W.L.s.”<br> Dana bowed a little – enough to fit the formal bow at the starting of the duel, letting some charms passed through her head. Under no circumstances did Dana want to loose either. Measuring Goyle once with a stony expression except for the smug grin still twitching at the corners of her lips Dana decided to try and use Goyle’s faith against him. “Tarantallegra!” Dana shouted out and watched to see if Goyle could protect himself in time. If he even remembered the correct protection charm at all.

Goyle noticed the sharp look the Professor threw at him and ignored it. He moved to his disignated spot. Watching Dana the entire the time. He steped onto the star and turned to face Dana and took out his wand. He smirked at Dana. Than bowed and waited for her to cast her spell.
What spell would she do? She cast her spell and he recognized it from the hall. "Protego" He said casting his defence.

"Very good, Miss Coran," Amaryllis said, waving her wand to clear the effects of the spell which had penetrated Mr. Goyle's protective shield. "Mr. Goyle, it is now your turn to cast a spell." Amaryllis stepped back to watch the progress of the duel as she said this, waiting for the next offensive spell to be cast.

Goyle watched as the protective barrier came around him. The barrier managed to protect somewhat but a bit of Dana's spell made it through. He growled in anger as his legs began to go crazy until Professor Hardy cleared the effects away. He looked at Dana, thinking through a list of spells. Finally he pointed his wand at her. "Infantaneous"

Goyle got the protecting barrier up in time, so Dana’s charm didn’t hit him full-force but Dana still watched with content as at least part of it hit Goyle. Dana eyes Goyle warily as he took his sweet time to cast his first charm. "Infantaneous" finally came and Dana grimaced inwardly whereas her smile on the outside just seemed to grow a little. It was a nasty charm and a rather powerful one. Easy to block though, when you were strong enough. “Protego!” Dana commanded sharply to create the magical barrier in front of her, which would protact her. Dana felt no desire to act as a baby.

Amaryllis watched as Mr. Goyle cast a difficult spell well, Miss Coran's spell also protecting well against it but not entirely. "Very well done, Mr. Goyle," she said, waving her wand to dispel the effects of the spell. "Miss Coran, it is now your turn to cast a spell again. Whenever you are ready," she said, stepping back to watch the two duellers carefully once again.

Dana grimaced after professor Hardy had gotten rid of the effects of that part of Goyle’s charm that had managed to penetrate Dana’s protection shield. It had been a powerful spell. Dana breathed out slowly to concentrate on the spell she was about to cast. “Stupefy!” Dana ordered and watched to see how much damage this particular spell would cause.

Goyle smirked as part of his spell penetrated her shield. He waited for her to cast her Spell. "Stupefy" She cried, Goyles eyes went wide. He knew that spell pretty well, therefore he also knew the counter. "Fortuikus" He cried.

Amaryllis glanced up as Miss Coran's spell failed and so had no effect on Mr. Goyle. "A good try, Miss Coran," she said. "Mr. Goyle, it is now your turn to cast a spell." She stood back, waiting for the duel to continue.

Goyles Smirk grew larger at Dana's failed spell. 'amatuer' he thought to himself. Time to show her how to really cast that spell. "Stupefy!" He yelled, pointing his wand at her.

Dana let out a breath. She had always had trouble with the spell. That’s what this duel was for anyway – to practice. Dana raised a curious eye-brow as Goyle used a wrong defensive spell though. “Protego,” Dana stated clearly pulling the defensive shield up around her once again.

Amaryllis nodded as Mr. Goyle cast the same spell correctly, having only a limited effect on Miss Coran due to the defensive spell she had cast well. Amaryllis waved her wand to clear that effect. "Well done, Mr. Goyle," she said. "Miss Coran, it is now your turn to cast your third and final spell."

Dana as glad that her spell had at least worked. Defensive spells were Dana’s forte. Offensives could be better in reality. “Avis Attaqikus," Dana said with a flick of her wand, hoping at least this spell would work. It was a bit tricky as well. Dana wanted to try it in reality for once to see how it worked and this was a perfect opportunity.

The spell had hit. Although not with the desired strength. He growled as Dana cast her next spell. He would not make the mistake of choosing the wrong defense again. He had mixed up the effects of two spells during that earlier exchange. Both spells were fairly common to him, he mentally slapped himself for making the mistake. “Bête ami” He cried.

Amaryllis waved her wand to as a few birds flew over to peck at Mr. Goyle, most of them discouraged by his defense spell, causing them to disappear. They left a few bird droppings on the floor. She looked at them with a grimace. She would clean them up when the two students had gone. "Well done, Miss Coran," Amaryllis said. "Mr. Goyle, when you are ready, you may cast your third and final spell."

Goyle smacked at a few birds that had still decided to peck at him. Than he looked at Dana evenly and thought on his last spell. "Chaleur baton" He said pointing his was at her.
